“Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

Don't waste you time-high hopes when we drove up-impressive looking place , but food was awful-roast chicken dinner tasted like it was heated up from lunch but the worst was the liver-"chef cooks it well done!" Should have re-ordered then-it was like late in a chewy skin-worst I have ever tasted-will not be back......ever!

“Could do better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013 via mobile

We went to the Merlin on a spur of the moment thing, given it was a sunny day we were able to find a table outside.
The staff are friendly and service is ok, but you do have to get up to get their attention as they seemed fixed on one table at a time and don't look around to see if anyone is trying to get their attention.

As for the food, it's ok but that's it. Even a stone baked pizza which should have a crispy base was soft, the other guests which I visited with had the linguine and the lamb. Both dishes are nice but had much better.

Overall it,s a nice place to go for a drink and a quick snack but personnally would go for an evening meal.

“Poor food, Average service. Very disappointing.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

We eventually managed to get into the Merlin having left it too late to book tables in the past and really wish we hadn't bothered. My pasta was over-cooked and the sauce was bland whilst the service left a lot to be desired. They were unable to make a shandy and there is no provision for children on the menu. It's hardly surprising that it was practically empty on a Bank Holiday weekend if this is the best they can do. We certainly won't be returning in a hurry.

“Great chicken and lovely atmosphere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

Had a great meal at the Merlin at a group function. The spit roast chicken was excellent and the sharing platters are really good value.

Amy the waitress was very helpful and looked after us really well.

“Passable - but should be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

First time visit to his restaurant which has a good layout and is nicely appointed. The menu is good although a bit pricey for what it is. Not quite sure what "scallops market rate" on the menu means - Alderley Edge is not exactly by the seaside. Overall we enjoyed the meal.
Service here though needs a bit of a look at. Upon arrival we had to clear dirty plates from a table outside when having a pre dinner drink even though four staff inside were having a chat. At the start of the meal it took a while to get service. Friday evening maybe but the restaurant was not full. Perhaps this was an off night. Customer service needs to be raised a little to match the decor.
