“Very Enjoyable !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

On a beautiful summers day, my wife and i chose to walk to the Wizards Inn for lunch from Alderley Ege village which is about a 30-40 min walk, all uphill and quite a dangerous one at that as the paths are narrow and close to the road and clearly this where the rich and famous can test the accelerator on their latest super car ! Anyway, we arrived in dire need of refreshment only to discover the pub did not open until 12.00, so we sat in their beautiful beer garden for 20 mins composing ourselves. When it did open we were greeted warmly and enjoyed a fine lunch with some refreshing drinks. All the staff were very good and it appeared a family run business. We were particularly impressed with the blonde haired lady(i never caught her name) who was perhaps the landlady. She was very polite and courteous at all times and her customer service as well as her staff was impeccable. Surprisingly it never got packed out on such a beautiful day but a few people did arrive before 12.00 and went off once they knew it was not open. This pub really misses a stronger customer base with such rigid opening times. Such a shame as it is steeped in history and has plenty to offer. Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed it and at least it was all down hill on the way back and we didn't get run over !

“Eat, drink and a good walk in the Sunshine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

We enjoyed a great pub lunch with a walk to the Edge to stretch our legs. A spectacular view across Cheshire. The food was good with Chicken Tikka in pitta bread and Shoulder of Lamb washed down with Macclesfield Storm Bitter. A pub with a lot of character, welcoming staff and a good experience generally.

“The Wizard”

Nice lunch, I had sea bass, my husband had lamb, but lacked atmosphere. 2 cask ales, a little disappointing. Also, it was closed the first time we went! Closed between lunch and teatime

“Saturday Evening Dinner”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

We had dinner at the Wizard last Saturday evening. Not been to the resaurant for ages so thought we would ive it a try. At 7.30 on a Saturday evening I would not have thought that small kids would have been welcome to be playing around on the floor, afetr all its not a "happer eater" We asked to be moved ! Menu is not exactly extensive and settled for a ribey and a goats chese and beetroot salad. £20.50 for the steak which was cold and tough as old boots although cooked exactly as requested. The Salad at £11.50 was limited to 3 bits of goats cheese, really stingy! I try to not complain as it can cause problems but it was my partner who commented as we had not been asked if we were enjoying the meal before paying the bill, which annoyed her intensely. Service wasnt great and neither was the food. 3 drinks, 2 courses for £64, come on Wizard you should be able to do a lot better!!
