“Magic at The Wizard”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013 via mobile

Just got home from eating dinner here, in front of a log fire. Excellent food, service, wine & beer, with parking in the back.
Early bird special up until 7:30 Monday through Thursday £10 for two courses. I had the chicken which was moist and delicious. Tempura shrimp to start, toffee apple crumble for dessert. My sister had pork belly main course and whitebait appetizer, then warm chocolate brownie with ice cream and kirsch and cherries. Everyone else had great meals too.

“Great food in this traditional country pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

We stopped in for Lunch and thought the food was excellent and well priced. Shared the bread platter to start followed by the Chicken & Avocado Salad and Spinach & Feta Filo Pie. Both were brilliant and very generous portions so did not have a desert just a coffee which was also good. Didn't feel rushed and were there for several hours. The pub is situated on National Trust land and it is short walk through the woods to an edge over looking the Cheshire countryside, very pleasant place for a day out.

“Lovely atmosphere and good soup”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We wanted a light lunch and the home made soup and crusty bread were excellent. The atmosphere was buzzing as the Hunt was about to leave and the horsemen and women had gathered at the Wizard priot to riding. We were able to go out after them and watch them leave.

“Sunday lunch at The Wizard”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We had friends over from Canada and were excited about taking them to The Wizard - we'd experienced great food and atmosphere here before, and as locals, were proud to showcase your Pub.

The food was good, although a long time in coming but sadly the service let you down, badly. The Lady who served us clearly didn't want to be there. When my (14-year-old Canadian) Nephew asked for 'pop' he was told 'it's called lemonade in this country'! Unbelievable!...welcome to England! Asked what desert she would recommend, the response was 'all', asked again it was a clearly annoyed 'all'!

We're just customers!...and my family were just after a relaxing and fun experience - this was far from that - arrogant and condescending. We left apologising to our family members.

What a shame.

“A Place of Character”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

Two of us shared a lunch here today and found a warm welcome on a bitterly cold morning. The atmosphere is extemely pleasant - a superior pub but with restaurant facilities - and there was plenty of room. An excellent Thwaites "Big Ben" ale went down well with a "Nibbles" dish of bread, hummus and tomatoes with oil or butter for the bread. This was followed by a substantial (but not "door-step") ham sandwich with triple cooked chips and salad and a decent cup of coffee. Service was immediate and attentive; the waitresses were polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A total bill (including two pints each) of £28.50 seemed very reasonable for what we had. A place to visit again soon!
