“Sumptuous afternoon tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

We were treated to afternoon tea by our family and a treat it certainly was. We were presented with a beautifully prepared and presented tiered plate of sandwiches, cakes, scones and other delicacies with a prawn and crayfish salad to start the tea. The summer punch tea that I chose was a delicious fruity drink. The whole experience was delightful.

This hotel has the look and feel of a luxury hotel and is therefore good value for money. We had a superior double and the bed and bathroom were both great. One wonders why they don't go the extra mile and get air conditioning, maybe double glazing and replace the rather grotty muslin curtains - but no real complaints there.

My sister had a ground floor room and complained it was very noisy - she could hear the staff rushing about and the sound proofing from her neighbours room left a lot to be desired - she could hear snoring and bathroom activities!

The restaurant food falls short of excellent - rather ordinary really - and we had a couple of issues with an incorrect order and the wrong wine. Simply scraping off the unwanted relish from the burger isn't really cutting it, as it can still be tasted. The last time we were at this restaurant it was much better.

Breakfast is very good with a womdeful choice of hot meals. Beware the baked beans with the Full Englisht. If you don't want beans, they are not mentioned on the menu, but you get them anyway.
Breakfast passed my usual tests: Earl Grey made properly, toast, marmalade, and good sausage and even the music test the first morning. The second morning there was unfortunately music and it was the same tape as the night before. Ugh.

If I owned this Hotel I would go the extra mile and get an excellent chef and sort out the little room issues I mention, as it is a beautiful building in a great location with excellent parking and pretty surroundings. We will be back for those reasons - and the very comfortable bed!

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor for noise - although the views onto the garden are lovely from these rooms.

Didn't stay over as we live locally. We had even invited to a presentation and dinner. The food (a set menu) was excellent. Beautifully presented, beautifully cooked and very tasty. The service was great too.

My father-in-law recently celebrated his 80th Birthday and booked a large table for his wife and friends. He went into the hotel twice to sort out the table, which was also confirmed with a separate phone call. He specifically booked a window table, which afforded good access. Upon arrival he was shown to a different table in a narrow area of the restaurant where the access to the rear of the table was poor. Whilst the food was good, what was the point in specifically booking a certain table months in advance if the hotel was to pay no notice to honour this booking. Really poor customer service.

We stayed one night, bed only. Very small room, standard double bed but comfortable. Only one packet of biscuits for 2 people! Lovely view of garden. can't comment on breakfast as we always go the the Village Cafe. Very convenient location for walking into Alderley Edge for dinner and cocktails

A quiet Friday lunch using the set menu. The dining room is well appointed and light in the conservatory space. The food is very correctly cooked with starter and desert offering more complexity than the main courses. Value is about right for a hotel in this area. Service friendly but not too attentive (as we like it).
