“The most amazing hideaway in the middle of twon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2010

My husband booked a night here as a surprise for my birthday and he couldn't have picked anywhere more wonderful.
In the centre of town and yet hidden away this perfect retreat from the stresses and strains of modern life is a home from home and yet so much more.
Ian welcomed us when we arrived and showed us around then left us to explore and find all the 'little touches' that add to the experience. We only stayed for one night but a week still wouldn't have been long enough to explore all the historic gems casually laid around the place. Just like a museum except you could pick up, flick through or curl up and read any one of them.
The fantastic four poster double bed was a real treat and although we stayed on one of the coldest weekends so far this year the place was nice and warm so sitting around in pj's in the morning while we had tea and toast was perfectly comfy.
An absolute gem for a romantic break or to get away from modern day life I can't wait for a reason to go back.

This has to be one of the most unique and special places that we have ever stayed. You will just want spend all of your time looking around all of the boks and artefacts which are displayed so beautifully. We stayed in the Wizadry suite which was clean and cosy and had so many facilities and features. The special touches like fresh flowers, milk, biscuits and cake really made it memorable. Ian was very helpful and we will definately return again.
I would recommend this to anyone although it should remain a hidden gem!

Was looking forward to visiting here and wasn't dissapointed, it is a wonderful place full of atmosphere helped by the look of the cottage covered in ivy and the curiosity shop style interior, filled with artefacts, books, and games. My suite included a large living/dining area and upstairs there were 2 beautiful bedrooms. It was very relaxing my only mistake was staying for only one night! Take something for your breakfast so you can spend as long as possible there as there are facilities to make toast etc and a microwave. The town is only 2 seconds from the main road which is full of shops, bars and restaurants, and dare I say over-indulgent locals!

We stayed with friends in the Camelot Suite to celebrate 2 special birthdays and we could not have chosen anywhere better to stay. It's like living in a Harry Potter film set! The bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in and it was tempting to just spend the whole break holed up in this cosy cottage. We fell in love with the place and wanted to see more so Ian very kindly showed us the Merlin Suite which is equally as charming.
We were given cake on arrival and this, along with all the extra little touches such as the smell of fresh flowers and excellent service provided by Ian and Denise make this a very unique experience.

I booked this hotel for my Husband for his birthday. When we arrived, not only were we greeted with a friendly welcome from the owner Ian, but we were also allowed to arrive a little earlier with no problem. Ian showed us around our suite and very proudly told us in detail where everything was. From the fridge, microwave and tea making facilities to the board games, dvds and cds. Everything in the suite from the living room to the bedroom and bathroom was very quaint. The rooms where of sheer luxury and had a unique charm about them. The living room oozed a certain character and the old framed newspapers on the walls & first edition books where captivating. Again, the bedroom was of the same quality and the four poster bed, "wow", so comfortable and "big". When walking in and out of the rooms, you got to know when to duck slightly or bend your head as the odd shaped and low door frames just added to the charm. I must say that the attention to detail throughout this hotel is spot on. We went for a meal at the Merlin which is just a short drive away and it was absolutely beautiful. We then parked up near the hotel and enjoyed a few drinks at the local bars just down the road. Overall, we had a very enjoyable evening and night and would highly recommend it to anyone who also wants to share the experience .

Dear fellow traveller,
this is a very different place. You enter the cottage and you know instantly that you are in a different world. It is all in the athmosphere: a scene out of a book you have read when you were young. You cannot possibly stay here and be worried about anything.

On the plus side besides the ambiente: internet that works, hot water and heating that work, you prefered snack in the cupboard and fridge, and the best bed you will find anywhere.

On the negative side: well, there are a few things you will find out yourself. But tender loving care is not missing. See the flowers on the table!

The Wizards Thatch is unique, beautiful accomodation right in the heart of Alderley Edge. It is without a doubt an experience never to be forgotten and definitely to be repeated. Ian's attention to detail and exquisite taste in decor (it is a collectors paradise!) means you could happily spend the entire time in your suite and never get bored. Of course with the fleshpots of Alderley literally right on your doorstep this is unlikely but it is a great option. We cannot praise the Thatch highly enough - if you have a special occasion to celebrate, are feeling like pampering your partner or simply feel like having the most relaxing of breaks then treat yourself, I guarantee you won't be dissapointed.
