Like several other people on our visit, our trip was a Christmas present from the family - and what an experience it proved to be. Quite honestly, I could not fault it.. As an introduction to the world of English wine and wine-making, I'd like to hear from critics how it could possibly be improved. The presentations at all stages by our tour guide (a certain Mr Bell) were superb, informative without being condescending, and more than adequate in terms of length and content. We found lunch and the wine-tasting sessions a really convivial occasion - and without any pressure to buy at the end of the day. More might be done in advance to alert elderly or physically-challenged visitors like myself about the need to walk up a pretty steep hill to reach the vineyard. Having said that, we were allowed to drive there and use one of the limited parking spaces available beside the road. I make no apology for admitting that I love wine and drink perhaps a little too much of it. I'll admit, too, that I've always been sceptical about the quality of English wines. This visit certainly changed my opinions. Those we tasted were extremely pleasant. My only regret is that we could not sample the champagne-style Chilford. It's so good, I'm told, that it's completely sold out.
