“Horrendous !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Stayed here 2nd November. They had a halloween disco blasting in the evening. Went to our room at 23'00 and noise from disco was horrendous. My partner went to complain only to be told by rude landlady that unfortunately our room was above the speakers and were'nt we young once. We found the booming noise intolerable and their response was that they werent a hotel. If we want a hotel they'd take us down the road to the Holiday Inn where it would cost us 160.00 a night. We were reluctantly offered a smaller room in the annex building. No apology was offered or a reduction in the room rate. Needless to say we didnt stay for breakfast and made an early exit in the morning.

Needed to be in this area on business - the Lion was recommended by a highly regarded culinary friend, that I have since thanked.!! I had a pre dinner drink in the bar, the landlady ( I think was called Annette) was the most perfect host and very informative about Waddesdon and its history. In the restaurant, I found the food just superb. The room was spotless and the most comfy of beds ! I now need to visit this lovely "Coaching Inn" again this time with my family and visit the Manor which the landlady advised. Looking forward to that restaurant!! Chris R

Half way point on a 32 mile walk along Aylsebury Ring we needed an overnight stop, thats where The Lion came into it, now we were tired and due to weather a bit mucky. Anywhere would suffice in this case, but the staff at The Lion were very friendly and helpful, the room was really very nice and facilities excellent and clean. After making ourselves presentable we went for an evening meal in bar, again service very friendly and food great. After a comfortable nights sleep it was time for breakfast which could not be faulted. Overall a very nice place to stay.

Stayed here two nights for a wedding and overall, it was not a bad place we found. The room was big and mostly clean. Our room faced the main road so was a little noisy but overall fine. The curtains were great at keeping the light out the room, but conversely the lighting in the room was awful. The main lamp was laughable weak, it would barely light up the inside of a matchbox so unless there was sunlight streaming in, we found the room to be very dark and gloomy. Breakfast was a little trying on the first morning - there seemed to be only one person taking orders and delivering the food, tea, coffee etc (why they wouldn't put on an extra staff member when the place was full for a wedding party guests I don't know) and I waited 40 minutes for not great poached eggs which were more like boiled eggs. The milk and juice ran out and wasn't topped up and you felt like you were putting people out by even coming to breakfast - another staff member would have made the world of difference, surely someone could have helped out the woman serving! The next morning however was much better - quick service and my egg and bacon sandwich was very nice. Perhaps the first morning was just a fluke? Check in was polite and efficient and but nothing out of the way to make you feel really welcome (no friendly chit chat about where we'd come from, why we were in Waddeston, you know, normal, friendly kind of chat you'd maybe expect in a smaller establishment) and when we checked we weren't asked if we'd enjoyed our stay and if everything had been okay. Just a 'thank you'. Our friends checked out just after us and they also weren't asked about their stay - for a place that surely must rely on a lot of word of mouth, I found that a bit odd! Overall, it's a nice place for a night or two but could do with a bit more emphasis on customer service at times.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the room or in the annexe next to the pub, possibly a bit quieter. Get to b...

Just called into the Lion in Waddesdon. Very friendly welcome and atmosphere. Luckily for me it was a Tuesday as they have a special on Fish and Chips. The Landlord was most accommodating and made me some to take away and I must say some of the freshest fish I have had. I look forward to traveling along the A41 from Aylesbury again soon.

Just spent a lovely 2 nights at The Lion. We've stayed there before so we knew what to expect, and we weren't disappointed. A warm welcome, lovely room, delicious food and of course great beer made for a very enjoyable stay. Highly recommended.

Stayed over night in this place on the 27th July. Only saw two staff,a middle aged woman on reception and an older woman who was very indifferent and rude- we felt as if we were intruding (and paying £95 for the privilege). The older woman showed us to our room, then she realised we hadn't been given a key by the receptionist, so she tutted and went off to get it. She did not make any attempt to be friendly.

Our breakfast experience was like being at Fawlty Towers,(we got the grumpy woman again) Breakfast was almost thrown at us, we were trying not to laugh as the service (or lack of it) was so bad. My husband asked for scrambled instead of fried egg, we got the look! Also dared to ask for the orange juice to be topped up,well, you think we were asking for something out of the ordinary. Milk for our tea was on the turn, but we didn't dare ask for any fresh milk!.

We got woken in the night (1.45) by a loud humming sound, this was probably the air conditioning unit in the room above.Difficult to get back to sleep as the bed was so hard and pillows lumpy. Room ok on the surface, but nothing special.

I really think these people should not be running a business, as they obviously do not like serving customers, they are just an inconvenience to them.

Room Tip: Don't go there! If you have to, rooms at the back are quieter as the building is situated on a b...
