Travelled with my wife .Main reason was to visit the Waddesdon Manor

It's a lovely styled hotel and very warm and welcoming once inside.
We had room five at the front with private balcony which overlooks front garden.
Sadly because our room was at the front ,there is some noise from assign traffic.
It didn't affect me a the room was so comfortable .once my head hit the pillow I was asleep !

Dinner was very nice in the lovely dining room a nice treat for us.Nice choice of wine too.
A good choice for breakfast too.

Staff are very friendly and helpful, sadly we only had one night.

Dear JohnyBrett

Thank you for the great review after staying here with your wife after visiting Waddesdon Manor, though we agree it's a shame you were only here for one night! As mentioned in a previous response, we are very pleased to announce that the installation of triple glazing has begun, so we look forward to being able to offer rooms as restful at the front as at the back for guests (no matter how lightly they sleep!) very soon.

This was our third visit and it was as good as ever. The welcome was warm and our favourite room (9) was ready for us when we arrived. Dinner was excellent, with great food, lovely wines and the usual superb service: thanks to Horacio, Michelle and Charlotte for a great evening. When the time came, we slept beautifully and enjoyed a great English breakfast in the morning. We can't wait for next time!

Dear sandra w

Thank you for your complimentary review, and Horacio in particular appreciates the mention. We are very pleased to be able to offer a great range of wines (by the bottle and glass) starting from just £16.95, so well worth adding to your meal!

We look forward to your next visit too.

The Hotel was lovely, very well looked after. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. The room was comfortable and clean and the bathroom modern. The breakfast was great and a surprise as we didn't realise the price included breakfast. The only issue was the traffic noise which was a problem for me being a light sleeper. My companion did not even notice the noise.

I can also recommend the restaurant which offered a great dinner at a reasonable price and with exceptional service.

Dear Daniel J

Thank you for your favourable comments about the hotel, the staff and service, the housekeeping and the breakfast and dinner. They are very much appreciated. With regard to the road noise, we have at last been able to begin the triple glazing process on the front of the hotel with the first room begun and the others soon to follow, so we hope on your next stay to elicit five stars on all points!

From the moment we walked through the door, to the moment we walked out the staff were incredible. There was a bit of confusion re dates ,I think that was my fault, but soon sorted out. We were then taken to our room which was "Chateau Duhart-Milon" ( No 5 ) .Which has a little terrace, so Coffee ( and beer ) was taken .
The food was lovely, well presented and served by the very helpful staff.
The only drawback with room 5 ( I assume the other front facing rooms have the same problem ) is the noise from the A41, this I mentioned whilst paying the bill and triple glazing is soon to be put in.
Breakfast was good and plentiful.
All in all a wonderful stay made special by the friendly helpful staff !
We will return ( and I promise to book the correct date!)

Room Tip: I think that the rooms in the annex or overlooking the rear garden will be quieter.

Dear LondonGoG

Thank you for your completely lovely feedback which I have passed on to all the staff, and is very much appreciated by all. It's inspiring to be considered 'incredible, very helpful and very friendly' and to be recognised helps justify their efforts. Thank you.

This is a real quirky place and we were extremely lucky to have good enough weather so we were able to sit outside and have Pimms.

We were in one of the courtyard rooms which are decorated in antique/older items which were in keeping with the Waddesdon Manor next door.

We had a package which also included the evening meal. The food was overall good although we did have to send our starters back as the slow roasted pork was not cooked enough for our liking. That said our starters were quickly changed. Katherine who works at this establishment is a real asset and should be commended.

The freshly cooked breakfast was lovely and a real nice change from the usual buffet affair and is to be recommended especially the home made jams and marmalade.

Overall a good stay and would happily respond.

Also only 10-15 minutes from Bicester Village for bargain shopping!

Room Tip: If road noise is a worry upgrade to a courtyard room which are set away from the main road

Dear TAD520

Thank you for your review and we are pleased you were able to enjoy a Pimms in the garden in the short window of good weather!

The belly of pork starter is cooked for 12 hours, in a water bath, but we are pleased that you were happy with the quick change of your starter and I have passed on your compliments to Catherine, our Operations Manager. I agree that's she's definitely an asset here!

A good stay but this hotel is in a bit of a time warp, in some ways good and in other ways not so good, lovely restaurant, great helpful staff, we booked a deluxe room, but it was quite , small with a tiny bathroom ( although beautifully appointed ) the bed had a strange soft floaty mattress that did not seem to have any substance, we arrived at about 1pm and requested a sandwich, we were shown into the restaurant and presented with the menu, which included one steak sandwich, we were then informed they do not do sandwiches, there is a small seating area by reception which also serves as the bar but no comfortable chairs or sofas in which to sit, dinner and breakfast was good if a little over priced, the hotel is on the main road so rooms at the front may be noisy. Having said that it is nice to find a hotel that hasn t had the dreaded contempory makeover and doesn t pretend to be trendy, or anything that it isn t..

Dear rogerraven

Thank you for your review. We are a Grade II listed building, built in 1887, so any refurbishment or decoration needs to keep our historical roots and Rothschild association in mind. We are in a process of sympathetically modernising, but promise not to make any makeover a dreaded contemporary one!

With regard to the options for lighter meals, we do offer snacks, lighter bites such as soups, any options of the starters and Five Arrows favourites which are often a good option. We would also make sandwiches when requested in advance for high teas. Sorry that you didn't find the armchairs in the reception area comfortable, they are generally appreciated as such.

Your request was for a kingsize bed, large shower and quiet room (though not a deluxe) and we were happy to be able to meet all these requirements on the very special offer with which you stayed. The bed was super king size, the bathroom is small but the shower within it very large and the room was at the back overlooking the garden so we had hoped we were meeting your requirements.

If you wish to contact me further please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
