Stayed one night on a ground floor single room.

Although the room was showing signs of wear, it was clean and tidy. The staff were very polite and friendly and the portions served when I ate, were generous. One night's accommodation cost under £30 for me with breakfast included.

Tip - two evening meal main courses can be had for less than £10 on their current promotion

We paid £49 for one night at the Highwayman and I was a bit worried when I read the reviews but we were getting an early morning flight and needed somewhere to stay that wasn't too near the airport and not too expensive. The staff and especially the receptionist were very friendly and when we got to our room it was a lovely 4 poster. The decor was really nice, the bathroom slightly dated but all clean. The food in the restaurant wasn't particularly good, mostly a carvery with veg standing in bowls of water which put me off a bit. The meat looked nice though. We had something from the menu. If you get there early there is a nice walk down to the town where there are shops and an old Priory. I don't know what the other rooms are like but we definitely had a lovely room.

We booked this through the Mail on Saturday special offer at £9.95 per person including breakfast. So wasn't expecting too much. Room turned out to be very small approx 2/3 of a Travelodge room. Beds were clean and comfy. Bathroom had loads of hot water and bath ran away very well not like some hotels we have stayed in. Breakfast was ok, buffet style but no-one seemed to see if it was stocked. Ran out of plates and cups. Had to wait for the chef to cook more bacon each morning. Steer clear of the carvery in the restaurant. Watery veg and under cooked potatoes. Probably best to eat somewhere else in the evenings, as bar/restaurant very noisy. Hotel is used by lots of workers who like their football.

My niece was getting Christened and we needed a place to stay near to the church.

I stayed in a twin room with my daughter. On arrival we were greeted politely and helpfully.

The room was adequate and the bedding and towels were all immaculate white and the bathroom was pristine.

The radio alarm we couldn't work out how to program the alarm, not sure if it was working right. We mentioned it at reception on checking out and were told they would look into if it needed replacing.

The corridors and room had artwork on the walls so not unpleasant. One picture needed new glass but out of maybe 100 pictures can't say that's too terrible.

The carvery was average and the breakfast wasn't quite ready at the time stated. The coffee in the urn was awful but there were sachets of Nescafe and hot water so not a disaster.

well where do i start it was all terrrible the only good thing was the pub next door!

The welcome was totally unacceptable not polite infact nearly agressive!!
And the room well i would have been more happy sleeping in a tent as at least it would be clean i spent the night led on top of the bed as i was afraid what may have been in it i think they havent heard of washing powder or infact washining machines.
There was dark brown marks everywhere on the walls on the ceiling on the floor and even on the bed there were cracks in the walls and nothing was acceptable at all ive stayed in better hostals then this it was just awful i really hope the owners pick up their act or go out of buisness as if i treated people like this i would be out of a job.

Do Yourself a favour buy stay away from this hotel its just awful!!

I stayed one night . The price including Breakfast was £20 for a single room B&B (£25 for a double)! this offer applies to Saturday nights only and at that price it is a bargain. The hotel is standard fairly modern (50 rooms)Travel Lodge style and comparable in quality and price at normal rates ~£45 double room midweek. The attached pub had a good value carvery from £3.95 and the breakfast was fine.
