Description: The White Lion Restaurant, situated on the outskirts of Dunstable, in Bedfordshire, is our modern version of a traditional British public house. It’s a family business, so we’re not part of a big brand. Unfortunately it seems that there are not many family run restaurants around any more; however we like to hope that this means we’re that little bit different and something special. We hope you will pop in for anything from a pint of beer, to a lazy Sunday lunch or a special meal for those important celebrations. What we want most of all is for you to enjoy yourselves. The menu is based on traditional British dishes with a modern twist, and our aim is to provide top quality, and wherever possible, locally sourced food and drink. We are passionate about great food in great surroundings and we strive to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

At last they have done something useful to this pub - worth driving through the chalk cutting for ! Been several times, good varied menu with special 'international and promotional' days, staff always friendly and helpful, prices reasonable, good cask ales. Can get a bit busy and noisy, but that's the price of success I suppose - certainly not to the point in my experience that it was ever an issue. Nice for a fun evening with friends for good food and drink.

“More than just the food...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013 via mobile

This is a fairly new discovery for us in Dunstable. Why it took so long I don't know. As per our last 2 visits, the service was first class; friendly, efficient and not a problem when we spilled a glass of wine! Spacious dining area, problem with drawing the blinds due to the sun. The quail and bacon salad starter was fabulous, and the lemon sole and monkfish mains were just excellent. So many whole fishes are overcooked, this was just perfect and fell off the bone but with a little help. Marvellous! This is more than pub grub. Highly recommended.

“Not bad at all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013 via mobile

It was a little busy and the two bar staff overwhelmed; but the service and quality of food very good.

The fish special was done to perfection and we appreciated the west country delicacy.

“Bugs in the food!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

We had to go to the bar to order our food, it took a while considering we ordered salads, when the food arrived it look really nice with generous portions until the food started moving and there was slugs in the salad leaves! Left immediately and didn't pay for our food or drink.

“Not as good as I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

Took my parents here for a birthday treat after reading the glowing reviews here. I have to say that I wasn't blown away by the experience.
The service is excellent, and the restaurant and pub areas are really light and airy...very welcoming.
Unfortunately a couple of the dishes we ordered were disappointing. We ordered some garlic bread with cheese which turned out to be just bread with a mountain of cheese piled on it...no garlic to be found. I know it's just garlic bread, but when you're paying £5-£6 you would expect something a little more refined! As a main I chose the Pork and Chorizo meatballs with pasta...the meatballs were quite dry, though the pasta was lovely.
My parents were happy with their fish and chips and Smoked Haddock pasta (the latter looked particularly lovely).
If this was a less expensive restaurant I would have given a higher rating; however I think when you're spending a bit more for a special occasion you should expect everything to be spot on...and on this occasion was just a bit disappointed.
Having said that, I would definitely give this place another try.
