“Clean and very comfortable best hotel in Dunstable but its not that hard.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2012

Looks great from the outside and big free car park. The bar area is nice with friendly staff. The room was big but cold and I could not turn the heating on but thats probably be being thick.

The dining was very nice and I am sure dinner would be good but did not have dinner. Talking about food, breakfast was nice however the tables were not ready and the lady dusted off the crumbs and sat us down, was quite comical really.

Always full apparently due to being a good hotel and good rates. I would stay there again.

I travel to the area on business and have stayed several times at the Old Palace. Each stay has been enjoyable and I've not ever encountered any problems. Although an old hotel, it has been nicely kept up and has a lot of charm. The staff always makes me feel welcome. Many of them have been working there for years, which I think says a lot. I especially enjoy the breakfast which is tasty and served promptly.

Room Tip: If traveling on business, ask for one of the 2nd floor rooms that are more modern and equipped with...

I stayed here for a few nights as part of a business trip
I made the booking myself on the web and turned up at the hotel to find I had actually booked for the wrong dates. Fortunately, rooms were available and the incorrect booking was cancelled without question. That said, even allowing for the extra time to resolve my issue, check-in was a slow process.
The hotel is fairly typical of old style lodges in the UK, with corridors that seem like a rabbit warren and do nothing to help impress. I had a ground floor room and was quite concerned that I would here traffic to the car park but I had no issues there. However, otherwise the room was pretty average in all respects. Wifi was available and free but, in my room at least, signal was poor.
Breakfast is limited in choice. Traditional English or a very basic continental buffet with a small selection of items. For the traditional breakfast, the serving staff ask for what you want without explaining too much about the choices. I had three colleagues with me, one of whom speaks very limited English and he had a difficult time with this, particularly as the staff had no patience whatsoever to support, simply looking frustrated if he did not answer immediately or asked for the question to be repeated. A poorer advertisement for British hospitality would be difficult to imagine.
I used the bar a couple of times without too much of a problem but did find that the staff, as noted by other reviewers, wandered around a bit, leaving you waiting a bit more than should be necessary.
I ate outside of the hotel so I cannot comment on lunch or dinner quality. Similarly, I did not use other services that the hotel has available.

This hotel was excellent value. From outside, it is a lovely old redbrick building covered in ivy and fairy lights - magical! We received a very warm welcome at reception, and were impressed with the hotel's communal areas. Our room was spacious and clean. The room itself was not particularly luxurious but good value for what we paid. Lovely touches were Haribo and free mineral water. I was love to stay here again - much better than an anonymous hotel in Dunstable.

An excellent hotel with a 5 star rating in terms of comfort and service at an affordable price. In the Centre of the town, its a great place to meet have lunch or afternoon tea and just relax. From a business perspective, its a first class service is some very attractive period rooms.

What a pleasant change to stay somewhere non corporate that beats the now typical "box" that I'm used to staying in. The staff where first class and the service superb. I enjoyed a lovely pre dinner drink in the fabulous bar right next to a gorgeous real log burning fire. The food was excellent and in my opinion typical of an upmarket restaurant. My room was spotless and very cosy with that individual style that you only get with independant hotels. Car parking was painless and I'll be back again when next in the area.

Stayed at the Old Palace Lodge for a weekend with my partner, and our two children (10 and 7). From the moment we entered the hotel, all our needs and wants, were taken care of by the extremely helpful staff. The decor of both our rooms, and the public areas, gave a warm, welcoming enviroment. The food was delicious, and the waiter even managed to conjure up some chicken nuggets from somewhere, as that had been requested by my 7 year old. We used the hotel as a base for visiting friends, and also for a trip into London. After very tiring days, we found the hotel a lovely place to return to. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay, and would recommend the hotel to anyone.
