We returned last month from our third trip to Xcalak. We stayed at Casa Carolina for the second time, and we intend to go back again. There are only four rooms, nicely separated from each other, complete with kitchenettes, beautifully tiled bathrooms, and either a balcony or porch overlooking the Caribbean. The owners, Bob and Caroline are wonderful hosts, and we have always met intelligent, friendly, and adventurous fellow travelers there. Breakfast is served in the palapa, and includes coffee, fruit, juice, hard boiled eggs, and the most wonderful home made muffins ever...and they are different every day. Bob is a dive instructor, and we went out with him almost every day we were there. The diving was incredible, and Bob was the perfect person to introduce us to new places each time we went out. Of the 6 guests while we were there, we were the only divers, but everyone found something fun to do each day, snorkeling, bicycle riding, river boat rides, or just hanging out in a hammock and reading.
