We only stayed for two nights but I wish we could have planned for more, and definitely plan to return! The owner, American ex-pat Denis, was a knowledgeable, friendly, & welcoming host, as were his staff, and the other guests. The historic building had a great atmosphere and large, beautiful rooms. Location in the historic town made you feel a part of the real city. Easy to walk to and from downtown, shops, restaurants, and excellent recommendations from Denis. If you want to stay somewhere quiet and relaxing, yet still central and a part of a real city, stay here. It was a perfect jumping off point for exploring other ruins and cenotes in the Yucatan. Easy access to main roads and the freeway (once we got the hang of navigating the city's "small" streets.) The breakfast was very healthy and filling, and the set up encouraged you to meet and chat with other guests. I am a young woman, and so is my friend who I was traveling with. We drove from Playa del Carmen and really welcomed the change in atmoshpere (less "party" more real town life) and enjoyed our relaxing stay and exploring the city/area. Parking was easy, convenient, and secure for our rental car. The city was very safe, and we enjoyed exploring it's streets on foot, seeing more of Mayan and Mexican every day life. We walked to the square, the cathedral, the monestary, the city's museum, and many shops and restaurants. Denis even called the owner of Casa de los Venados, a home/private art collection of Mexican Folk Art, so we received a warm welcome from its owner during our tour. I highly recommend this great place!
