My message is very simple. Avoid this hotel. We had two small rooms in a dark, stinky corridor. The AC machine was essentially useful as to produce noise, not cold. Holes in the spread, dirty mirrors in the toilette, etc. We were so upset that after seeing the rooms we decided not to stay and moved immediately to the other hotel (El Meson del Marques) even if we had already payed for one night. El Meson del Marques is a good choice, only a little bit more expensive (may be 25%) but very miles above in quality, cleanliness, etc.

I feel like I stayed at a different hotel than some of the other reviewers. This was our second stay at this hotel. We find it good value for the cost and the breakfast is a wonderful deal! The hotel is old and bit shabby, but it is in better shape then our first visit a couple of years ago. The beds our room were new and there were new AC units in boxes about to be installed in several rooms.
Yes, not much English is spoken, but this is Mexico.

Quite okay hotel. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. Its rather noisy at night, but other than that - its great considering the price

We stayed at the Hotel Maria de la Luz for one night during our ten-day trip through the Yucatan and it was certainly the most dreadful experience!!!

The hotel is nicely located, right on the main plazza but that's about it. The staff is very unfriendly and they don't speak a word of English (brush your Spanish before you travel in the Yucatan in general!) and the room was a disaster! One of the window panel was long gone and at night, it was like sleeping right on the street. It was a nightmare with the traffic noise at night and half of their rooms are facing that main street. The bathroom was very dirty with a nice layer of sticky dust on the tiles and hair all over the floor. There was indeed a mirror in the room but it was hung at mayan height. And to crown it all, there was no hot water! In general, you should always travel with cleaning wipes in Mexico.

We didn't have dinner there because we were too upset with the service at Hotel Maria de la Luz and we went instead to the Meson del Marques, a beautiful hotel on the same plazza with much more flair and mexican accents. The menu was affordable and the food and service were very good.

El Meson del Marques is also a hotel and if you stay in Valladolid, you should consider staying there.
