Owner description: t: Valladolid, colorful and safe colonial city, where yucatecan gastronomy was born and the Mayan culture is still alive. Is located in the east side of Yucatan, between Merida and Cancun. Ideal place to visit archeological sites like Chichén Itzá (New 7 wonders) at 50Km, Ek-Balam at 27km and Coba at 60km. Also you can visit natural reserves like the Biosphere of Ría Lagartos, to observe flamingos and birds; and Punta Laguna sanctuary of spider monkey.

“cute pueblo magico, good things to do around the town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

If you're only in the Yucatan for a couple days and have never been, it's a good visit. Close to lots of sites. If you spend a lot of time in Mexico and know the 'pueblo magico' program, it's a good one, though not the best, and though certainly pretty is light on things to do. Probably selected because of proximity to ruins.

“Great weekend break!”

Great place to walk around, try some yucatecan food or just watch as time goes by. Lots to see, to do and amazing places to visit nearby.

“Colourful and cultural”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

If you are staying in Cancun (like we were), then it is not far, just 2 or 3 hours (depends on the kind of bus). Travel agencies offer a visit of this city, but they usually stop there just for 30 minutes during the returning journey from Chichen Itza. It ´s not enough, and Villadolid requires more – several great churches, one cenote, which is near the historical centre, one 15the century monastery, beautiful historical square and typical Mexican noisy streets with many shops. If you arrive before 10, there is Casa de los Venados ( a beautiful place)– a private museum of a colonial housing just a few metres from the tourist information office.

“like Cenotes...?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

This little city offers a few nice cenotes right in town or close to it and an archeological Ek-balam small but nice and easily accessable from town. The colonial city has many nice buildings, courtyards and colours to please the eye and make your walk around very enjoyable.

“Great little town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

This town has lots to do, see and eat. We recommend spending a couple of days here wandering around. There are great places to eat traditional Mayan food. People are very friend and offer good service for the most part.
