“Great site!”

Gorgeous grounds and fascinating ruins. I saw wonderful birds while there, as an added bonus. (I'm a birder).

“Gorgeous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Uxmal is a must go if you are a Mayan site lover! It is not any less than the well-known Chichen Itza. At Uxmal, there are less crowd, less venders and tour guides hassling. They have the trees cut into the share of significant symbols at the main lobby, good thought. The place is well kept and clean. You can see clearly the totems on the wall; they are just magnificent! What is better than Chichen Itza is that there are several areas that you can actually get onto the construction, and the view up there is beautiful. I just love it there.

“Phenomenal, but come early!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

On our trip to Mexico, we went to Uxmal, Coba, Tulum, and Chichen Itza. Of these, Uxmal was the first ruins that we saw and our second favorite, next to Chichen Itza.

We arrived around 9:30 am to beat the crowds, and we were so happy that we did because by the time we left at 11:30 am, the line was out of control (and unfortunately, there is just one ticket counter with two windows - you have to buy one ticket for the ruins and then move over to the next window to buy another "INAH" ticket). The pyramid was fantastic and the ruins were really well-preserved. A definite highlight is the governor's palace and the Casa de Tortugas;. You can also climb up one of the pyramids and walk around in the buildings/squares (in direct contrast to Chichen Itza, which is completely roped off for the most part).

Uxmal is an easy 1-1.5 hour drive from Merida. Note that if you're using a Garmin GPS, it will route you through the small town of Muna. Don't pay attention to this routing - driving south from Merida, you will come to an intersection where you can go straight to Muna (which Garmin GPS will tell you to do) or where you can turn right (there's a big sign for the Uxmal ruins). Following the sign and turning right will allow you to bypass Muna - if you go through Muna, you'll be slowed down considerably and will have to drive on some subpar roads.

“Fantastic time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Everyone we met was very friendly. We were never worried about being late to meet the ship and Leigha, our guide, was incredibly sweet! I would absolutely recommend this to friends. We went to a small group of Mayan ruins and then the resort and had so much fun running around and relaxing.

“Richard's day at Uxmal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Wonderful ancient Mayan city in extrordinary preserved state. Don't miss this 9th century city. Choose your time to visit carefully because of crowds. Also Sundays are free days.
