“Best relaxing, low key day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

We landed at the Costa Maya port on a cruise and I wanted to get away from the port so we grabbed a cab and headed down to the village to the south ~ Majahual.

It is still a bit touristy but at the same time just awesome. We parked ourselves at the Maya Bar and Beach Resort which had little sand piers built out to the water's edge. We picked a table at the ocean's edge and the kid's jumped into the beautiful water while we waited on lunch. It was awesome (did I already say that already?).

There were the typical vendors wandering up and down the beach but they were all very pleasant and easily moved on if we showed no interest. We spent several hours lounging at the beachfront restaurant.

Later we spent another hour wandering down the beach browsing the shops.

It was a great day and the people were wonderful.

“My new favorite port of call.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

Very friendly beach village. Full of very reasonable shopping bars and places to eat. The beach itself is out of a magazine beautiful. It's only 4.00 pp taxi cab ride and about 5 mins from the Carnival Port. A must see place to visit

“This Destination Exceeded Our Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

We didn't expect much from Costa Maya on our Carnival Cruise. Just thought it was a quick stop. Boy were we surprised. The Mahahual Beach was charming, pedestrian friendly and offered lots of inexpensive shopping opportunities PLUS phenomenal beachfront massages for practically nothing. MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU LEAVE THE PORT AREA AND GET A SHUTTLE OR TAXI OVER TO THIS BEACH. Forget the port, this is the real part of the town and we were shocked at how few people from the ship actually bothered to come in to see the town. We felt perfectly safe, the village along the beach was as charming as it could be and the people were friendly and nice. This little jaunt to this part of Costa Maya was pleasant. It cost us $3 each way to the port and back. No need to spend money on excursions in this area. Just go discover the little beachfront village here at Mahaual Beach and you will be charmed by its authenticity, lack of commercialization and friendly people.

“Beautiful and peaceful when cruise ships are not in port.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Good restaurants reasonably priced. Can't beat the view! We were there three times. Once when cruise ships were in and that was crazy, another time on the week-end when sweet Mexican families were there playing with their children, and another time through the week when it was pretty desolate but very beautiful. My favorite time was on the week-end. We were there in April when it wasn't peak season.
