“Thanks Audie and Raquel - great tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

We found this company through Shore Trips when we were booking excursions on our Carnival Cruise. We had heard the excursions booked through the cruiseline do not help the local economy much, so we found our own.

We were very happy we did, There were only 7 of us on the tour - a nice van ride. Audie and Raquel were professional, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. This tour of Tulum was educational, entertaining and efficient - we never felt like we were left waiting or rushed.

We not only toured the ruins, but learned a lot about Mayan culture and history as well. On the way back to the ferry, Audie told us a wonderful story of the first Europeans who arrived on the Mexican shores way back and who immersed themselves in the existing societies - very interesting and a story you don't see on tv or hear about. We were truly delighted with this touring operation and would recommend it.

“Best Choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

This was the greatest choice for our family group of 14. We were the only ones on our van and had a great, well informed guide. Our email conformation had explicit information on reaching our meeting spot where we were met by guides. This tour was a great value compared to cruise ship, and it was the same tour!

“Great Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

We booked the Native Choice "Mayan Experience" tour. It was fabulous. There were 5 of us ranging in ages from 18 to 50. We booked it online several weeks before our trip and it all went very smoothly. They required a $15 deposit upon booking and the rest was paid when you went on the tour. They promptly sent us an email confirming our reservation. The email had very clear directions. It told us exactly how to get there from the port. We were given wristbands and a bottle of cold water. We were driven to the ruins in a very new, comfortable and nicely air conditioned bus. This was great because it was extremely hot and humid outside. The tour guide was very personable, informative and entertaining. We got to the ruins before the Cruise Ship tours so we avoided the crowds. The ruins were very interesting. Afterwards we were taken to a Mayan village where we could mingle with the villagers and they had a delicious lunch prepared for us. We got to try our hand at making a tortilla. The children were adorable and everyone was very hospitable. The hibiscus tea was really good. They got us back to the port with plenty of time to make it on our ship. All of us enjoyed the tour. Thank you Native Choice

“Outstanding guide and a Memorable Day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Our group consisted of our extended family - 11 adults and children. From booking through the website through the end of the tour, everything was incredibly smooth. I was able to email with the company ahead of time to ask about group discounts and even book a private tour since our group would fill the van that they used. If you use Native Choice, I cannot recommend enough that you ask for Ivan - he was incredibly knowledgeable having grown up on the site. I have seen some people complain about guides who don't stop talking, but to us that was the benefit of Ivan. We learned so much about his life growing up in that culture along with his VAST knowledge of Mayan and Mexican history. Be sure to prepare your group for an early day, but this will be well worth the loss of sleep! We were able to get to the site before the larger groups (who paid a LOT more!) from the cruise ship which meant we got pictures with just our family in them, the temperature was MUCH cooler, and we were not rushed at all learning all about the Mayan culture and history. We even had time on the way back to stop at a roadside stand to purchase pineapple served with chili powder - a local treat that was amazingly fresh.

As far as visiting the ruins, be prepared for a hot and steamy morning! The vans are clean and air conditioned, Native Choice not only gave us bottled water at the start, but during the tour as well, and there are nice, clean restrooms at the site.

A final word - please be sure to be on time and follow directions to their new office. Our group was running late and was convinced by a woman in a Native Choice shirt to take a van/taxi to the office. This turned out to be the OLD office and she called to have Ivan bring the van. This was actually not someone from his company and he ended up having to pay her for our transportation. He handled this so gracefully and only told us what had happened when we pushed him. He did not pass on that additional cost to us and none of this was the fault of Native Choice, just naïve tourists! Again, we have so much respect for Ivan and his company and we hope you use them for a memorable day with your family!!

“outstanding service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, without being officious. We were a family group of 14, ranging in age from 6-72, and all were accommodated well. On the way back to port, after visiting the Maya ruins, he stopped on the roadside at our request and allowed us to purchase the best mangoes I have ever eaten. That would have been impossible to do on a cruise sponsored excursion with 40 people. I cannot recommend this company enough.
