This hotel and area is the most amazing place! Its virtually untouched expect for the times when the cruise ships come in. Otherwise, its a gorgeous ghost town. The beach was fantastic with lots of things to do if you wanted some activities, other than enjoying a swim or snorkel in the clear warm water or lounging on the beach beds stationed all over. Unfortunately, Mahahual had been hit by a hurricane 2 weeks before our arrival. Well, unfortuate for them but fabulous for us. The cruise ships were diverted, the hotel was virtually empty and it was one of the most relaxing and beautiful places that I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. Even the restaurant, Pezquadro and bar were awesome. Staff was amazing, rooms were beautiful and more than clean and the people in general in the area were so nice. We even went fishing on the pier with the locals and had a blast.

Room Tip: We stayed in 2 different rooms. One on the back of the hotel, not much of a view but a great room w...

This hotel has the best atmosphere in Mahahual! The staff are professional and courteous. The rooms are very clean and are decorated with style. The beach is beautiful, well maintained, and has plenty of activities for the entire family.

Eat at the restaurant and spend the day at the beach club to enjoy the perfect getaway. Guests receive personalized service. If you are looking for the perfect, relaxing vacation in the Costa Maya (Mahahual) region, don't miss this hotel and beach club!!!

Room Tip: The condo is perfect for the family.

We stayed at the 40 Canones for 5 days over Holy Week, and we were thrilled to have found such a gorgeous little place! This was our first trip to Mahahual, and travelling with a 9-year old boy and a 7-month old baby, so we didn't really know what to expect... And we were so pleased with our experience! We stayed in one of the apartments (I think it was called Favio), and it was beautifully decorated, with a comfortable king-sized bed, little kitchenette area (no microwave), HUGE bathroom with a gorgeous tile shower & marble sink, and the most amazing patio with a comfy couch and view of the Malecon & beach. The staff was awesome & spoke fluent English, the room, hotel, restaurant & beach club are spotlessly clean and well-maintained. We loved staying at 40 Canones and are planning to return to Mahahual at Christmas. We will definitely be staying at the 40 Canones again!!!

This place is on the beach. The rooms are standard size, also the bathroom. Very clean. All the rooms face the inside patio that you walk through the restaurant & bar and the beach. They provide towels for the beach. Sun umbrellas, beach beds are available. Try the mango margarita around sunset time, looking this incredible warm turquoise waters...

We recently visited this great hotel and spent several nights. The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. The meals at the restaurant were great and the service was fabulous. The best part of this hotel was it's quaint dining and lounging area. The views of the beach and the beach itself is far better than I ever imagined. We have discerning tastes and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Spend the extra for the rooms with a balcony. The typical rooms are on the smaller side.

We stayed for 10 days in a 2 bedroom 'family unit'. Minor complaints but I'd definitely stay there again. Our stay included holy week. Most crowded weekend of the year. Do you know there is no water in Mahahual? All water is trucked in every morning from Chetumal and pumped in to the individual holding tanks of the hotels and houses. None of the pumps on the trucks have mufflers and they are very loud. 14 minutes at @ eight every morning for 3000 gallons. Minor complaint. Good showers, big tv with a few american stations, Intermittent internet, parking is ok. Probably the best place to stay in the town.
