“Don't miss this awesome adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

We visited the Coba Ruins on our trip to Puerto Morelos last September (2012). This was a very fascinating experience. There was a tour guide for the first 20 to 30 minutes and then we were given time on our own to explore the ruins. Definitely recommend using the "Mayan Taxi" in the park. Well worth every penny and the gentleman we got was awesome with stopping and showing us things along the way.

“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

I have seen other pyramids in Mexico and it was very nice to see such a virgin site before the jungle is cleared away to make it look manicured like Teotihuacan or Chichen Itza.

Coba is one of the two places where the Mayan calendar that foretold the end of the world in 2012 was found. Only 2% of the site has been cleared and one can see where a lot of other structures are under the green. In 6 years it will probably be a very different site. Right now it is small compared to the others but it is historically significant.

We booked a private tour with Luis Flores Alcantara (Riviera Guest Tours-luisarturoflores@hotmail.com) and it was fantastic. He took us to Coba before most of the tours arrived, we got a private guided tour, and got on bikes to get to the main temple, the tallest pyramid of the Mexican Mayan world, and scaled it. Luis followed us up as well.

He then drove us to a beautiful cenote, a large one and a smaller one, again, missing all the tourist buses. As we were leaving three large tour buses were arriving.

We then had a fantastic buffet lunch back at Coba and then he took us shopping on a shop that was outside of the ruin suite along the road. A lot less expensive.

Overall, Luis was very knowledgeable of the region and of all the country. If you can afford the private tour and want to avoid all the pickups and dropoffs, go with him.

“a great day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

fantastic day out, the guides really know their stuff, we did the full tour on foot and couldnt recommend it enough, we walked around all the ruins and got the explanation of all the culture and history, including old roads the temples and the highest pyramid in the yukatan peninsula.
the walk is all under the trees so its not too hot, however make sure you take plenty of water with you as the climb up the final pyramid your gonna need the water, ive never sweated so much in my life. the swim in the cenote afterwards was deffinately needed.

“Don't miss Coba”

This is the only pyramid in the area you can climb which is amazing. Get a bike so you can ride from site to site and see as much as possible.

“Brilliant! support the locals!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Had such a great day in Coba. We rented bikes which were a great way of getting around and fun. The pyramid is awesome and though I haven't seen Chichen Itza, I have heard the experience at Coba is better. We then went to a fab cafe called con calma which had some really good vegetarian food amongst other things and some lovely juices. Our waiter showed us some additional experience s you can do here and we picked a Mayan pottery class which he showed us at our dinner table. Really good price and you can keep what you make afterwards. A wonderful day out!
