This was our first trip to Mexico and hopefully not our last. If you are thinking of booking this resort don't hesitate. First of all, the staff at the resort are wonderful and very helpful. The grounds of the resort are beautiful. GS is a large resort and there might be a bit of walking depending on which side of the resort and which building you end up in. There is something to do for everyone. Our group ranged from age 6 to 60 and everyone had fun.
The rooms at the resort are very large and clean. Yes, in some of them there is that whole in the wall but no one was bothered by it. Our rooms were in building 29 which was quite close to everything. Each building has a concierge who helps you to book your a la carte restaurants and takes care of anything else you may need. They do also try to "invite" you to this time share event but we refused and were left alone.
Most days we ended up at the Mayan Beach pool where the staff at the pool bar and the entertainment team made sure we had fun. Oscar, Iliana and Alex thank you for making our stay fun. We participated in almost everything, from Pool Aerobics to Tequila Volleyball. This ensured that we met many people from all over the world.
We ate at the Japanese, Steakhouse and Brazilian. All were good. However the main buffet has plenty to offer. Everyone in our group was extremely satisfied with the amount of food choices GS offers. Even the pool buffet, Bayou had a great selection. We also enjoyed the ice cream bar, the health bar and especially the coffee bar. Ana has made each of our days special with many regular and specialty coffees.
The beach is a bit of a mixture, some sandy areas, some rocky areas and a small Mayan ruin right on the beach. To us this was perfect because we don't like to lay on the beach for too long. There was enough room to relax, explore and snorkel.
We also used the lazy river, although it was closed down at the end of our stay which was too bad because both the kids and adults loved it.
Finally we also took advantage of the sports area. They have plenty of activities there and my only complaint about it is that archery was cancelled throughout our stay and nothing was posted anywhere to inform the guests. All the activity boards had archery listed each day as an activity but once we got there we were told that it was cancelled for the past three months. We were a bit disappointed. They should have listed it as cancelled on the activity boards.
Overall, this is a great place and everyone can find something to do to make their vacation memorable.
I just wanted to take this time to also thank Josua from the reception desk for taking care of our Le Mirage package from Air Transat.
