We loved every thing about the resort....pretty much.
Yes it is very large and we were lucky to be fairly central, but we really didn't mind the walking. Every where you looked there were lizards…they were so cool!
The beach had a lot of character! I loved that it wasn't just a strip of sand. We spent a lot of time swimming even though the red flag was up. We stayed fairly close to shore. You never had to travel to the bar as Ana was always there to give us fresh cool drinks. The beach bar was a great spot to hang out. Loved Victor and miss his smile! The food here was really good, but the same every day and not a huge selection. You wouldn't want to eat it every day for a week. The bar-b-q was not bad, but they don't really cook everything all the way so watch if you eat chicken.
The restaurants we went to were Italian( yuck!), Mexican(lime soup was really good), but disappointed because the main course was not really that good, Steak house was good, but t-bone was a little thin and tough, Japanese was my favorite and the food was really good. This was the only place that had good dessert(deep fried ice cream) Everything we found to be salty. I'm not a picky eater at all, but I do like good fresh food!!! Our friends went to the Brazilian and liked it. The buffet for breakfast was good, but I suspect that the bacon was deep fried(tough). Lunch buffet sucked! There was mostly left over food from the ala carts and slop in some kind of gravy. I didn't try the themed buffets. I would have liked to have tried the all Mexican buffet. The dinner buffet was very much the same as lunch. My husband who is fairly picky ate a lot of hotdogs and fries or at the beach bar. There was only once that they had a good salad, although there were some things there to make your own, but very basic. Not a huge amount of fresh fruit choices (watermelon, melon, pineapple(canned one day). I don't think we would have starved, but were really disappointed in the food as was the group we traveled with.
The pools were very clean and there was always something going on for entertainment.
The grounds were very clean and staff friendly. My favorite concierge was Irene. She was always there and even though she wasn't ours we walked to her as she was the most help.
We didn't take any excursions from the hotel, but took a taxi. We went into Playa($20 each way) barter! We took a taxi to Tulum(we paid for the personal guide $18 each) for $50(split between 4 people). The driver waited while we were there 3 hrs. After that we went to Acumel to swim with the turtles and along the reef. Lots of fish! (10 min) from hotel) this was amazing and only cost $25 for gear and guide. Michael(cab 505) only charged us $15 more and went right in with us, Cabs were red and white. He was great! He also took us into the town of Tulum to shop another day($40, 3hrs). I liked this way better then Playa. No one bugging you to come in their store and just as much selection. Careful when you buy silver. Mine was stamped(bought in playa), but I'm not sure that it is real. He was going to take us to Coba for the whole day and wait for us. $120 plus what it cost to get in.
We took private transfer from Cancun($145 both ways) split up to 7 ways. Got there 45 min before the bus.
We tipped a lot more then planned as we were really happy with the staff.
Our room was what you see in pictures. Nothing special, but was clean and comfortable. I had to switch rooms when I first got there as they didn’t have us in a king bed. I had to get kind of cranky because they wanted me to wait till the next day, but told them no. I was thinking that if I didn’t switch now it probably wouldn’t happen the next day. We left $2 every day for the housekeeper.
My husband who was a little nervous to travel didn’t ever feel unsafe and would go back again. We really enjoyed Mexico!
Grand Sirenis is a great spot and would have gone back again in a minute if the food had have been better!
