“Nice hotel - with a few exceptions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2014

We stayed her for a week in April with a large group of families. Check in was a bit disappointing in that none of our requests were satisfied (including no adjoining rooms for our family of 5 with 3 children). The resort is large but very clean. Our maid was fabulous! The beach is beautiful with lots of available chairs. The carts to transport you rarely (if ever) were available). Other guests have commented on the "club exclusive guest treatment" and I agree that they were very focused on showing you what you were not entitled to unless you purchased a timeshare. Finally, the food was disappointing and often cold.

Room Tip: We requested building 18 but were given building 12.

Just returned after 13 night stay. As before, we loved it. We especially like the resort size, natural (but comfortable) environment, beach and reef (has 2 resident sea turtles; saw scrawled file fish, multiple French angels, pork fish, parrot fish, etc.). Waiters/housekeeping staff very friendly; problems were fairly quickly addressed by management. Believe last year's booking through Apple (over this year's through Travelocity) resulted in a few more perks (flowers in room upon arrival, beach lobster dinner invitation), but still felt welcome. The entertainment at night has changed a bit over the five years, from stage shows/music to more audience involvement, that's not our "cup of tea". But, sure that's appealing to visitors in groups. We hope to return next year!

We stayed at the hotel in February this year. The rooms were large and comfortable. Restaurants were good, definitely visit the al carte ones, the Japanese was fantastic and also the steakhouse. Concierges in the blocks helped to ensure a memorable stay. The pools were good, a bit rowdy at times but the staff ensured you always had a drink on hand.

The beach was beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay here, our 9 year old daughter loved it and made lots of friends.

Just returned to UK after 7 nights at this resort. This is our second visit but our first as members. We were picked up at the airport with no hassle, check in very efficient and speedy. We could not believe it when members of staff remembered us from last December. It was great to meet Dave and JD (ah bless) from the offices such great characters. JD and Oscar our concierge were extremely helpful explaining all the benefits of being club members. All the staff at this resort are extremely hard working nothing is too much trouble. They are always smiling and polite to guests. Karen the beach and pool waitress is amazing and is always there when you need a drink. I am amazed at some of the negative reviews regarding this resort especially about the food I have been to many resorts 4 and 5 star and have found this hotel be one of the best. The scenery is stunning, the beaches and surrounding areas very clean, we cannot fault this resort and look forward to returning next year. the only downside i would say which is not the hotels fault is the few holiday makers who persist in being overly loud and worse for wear by lunchtime through having too much alcohol. There are plenty of quiet areas round the pools or on the beach so please dont be put off by this comment.

We travelled to the Grand Sirenis at the end of April/beginning of May 2014 with another couple. The location of the resort is quite far from the airport, just be prepared for approx a 90 min transfer. Our check in was extremely fast and easy.

The hotel itself is very beautiful. Very modern and clean, unlike any other resort I have visited. The resort itself is quite spread out, but we liked that. People have complained that it is TOO big, however it is not nearly as big as some other resorts out there.

The lobby bars were very nice with lots of seating at both. We did tend to go to the Mayan Beach lobby bar more only because we preferred the quieter outside seating.

We are beach people so we spend the majority of our time there. It was a beautiful beach with lots of loungers, we never had a problem finding some with shade at any time of the day. The beach is broken up into two parts, if you walk past the VIP area, it was quieter with tons of loungers. The service at the beach was hit and miss. When servers were around the service was great, but there were a few days where no one was working, but the bar is nearby and service was good there as well.

We didn't go to the pools with swim up bars, but they looked nice. The quiet pool was really nice for a quick dip. The lazy river was really fun, made sure to enjoy that every day.

We stayed in the 1400 building on the third floor. The rooms are large, a little outdated but we still found them to be nice. The beds and pillows are a bit hard. Our room did have a glass screen separating the bathroom from the rest of the room, however our friends did not, I could see how this could be uncomfortable.

The food was the biggest disappointment. The buffets were just ok, we found that if you went when the food was fresh and stuck to the Mexican food, it was alright. We never had great service at the buffets, getting our own drinks most of the time. The beach snack bar was decent, we always made sure that we went right when it opened. The a la cartes were the most disappointing, only having one good experience. We booked our 3 right away, however our friends waited a day to book and were told that they were fully booked and weren't able to get any reservations....which was strange because anytime we walked by any of them they were less than half full. We tried the Steakhouse (steaks were not great), the Japanese (waited about 45 mins before our chef showed up to start the show, but the food was ok) and the Mexican (which was the best one, however my husband’s steak, that the waiter sold him on, he couldn't even finish). With that being said, none of us got sick at all!

All the staff are very friendly, we had no problem tipping when we were helped or served.

They did not bother us about the time share other than getting a pamphlet in our door one day.

We will not be back, partly because of the food, but mostly because there are so many other resorts to try out!
