“Memorable Moments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

This was our very first family vacation abroad and our agent recommended Gran Sirenis for their lazy river and ice cream parlor for our kids and the beach and scenery for us. She couldn't have been more right about this place, I mean from entering the premises; the place was impeccable, from its marble floors, Mayan deco, to being greeted with a cold drink and a warm smile, check in was quick and smooth and our stay memorable. You’ll definitely be impressed with the immensity of the place, from it’s grand lobby, to the layout of the resort, it was designed to be aligned with the stars this according to Mayan tradition, they really thought of every detail. Once settled in our room, we are then greeted by our concierge (Merary, Alex & Christopher), who are located within the same building as our room, (they in my opinion made our stay pleasant and fun). Albeit, the only room for improvements are the beds and pillows, not as comfortable for our liking, very hard and uncomfortable. As for everything else was, wonderful such as the a-la-carte restaurants, the food was very delicious.

We did have one complaint and that was that our accommodations were initially on the first floor and it was noisy, and after requesting to be moved, the resort personnel (Laure, very nice) was understanding and moved us to a third floor room right away overlooking the ocean, very impressed :)

There are many special moments that stand out, but the one that takes the crown is part of this vacation was to celebrate my wife’s birthday and since the resort does not offer birthday cakes for sale, I mentioned it to my Concierge (Merary) and she took it upon herself to buy my wife a cake from a nearby town and she arranged it that on the evening while we dined at the Italian a-la-carte restaurant that after our meal, our waiter was to bring the cake out. My wife was surprised and wait staff and us sang “Las Mañanitas” (Spanish folk song for Happy Birthday) and gave my wife a tequila shot. Merary really went the extra mile to make this memorable moment for us, a job well done!!!

Regarding getting around the resort, I got to know the different pools, restaurants, spa, beach, pretty well, and if you get tired (which we did every night after finished watching the nightly shows) we usually flagged down a bell boy and gave us a lift in the many golf carts that they have to move people around. I must say, we usually got Denni and Leo who were very friendly and polite and patient as at times they waited around for us!

In closing, the staff will make your stay very comfortable as everyone greets you, but people that stand out are: Leydi & Dedire, waitresses around the beach and VIP area, they paid special attention to us and everyone else around us, they were very prompt and professional. Eduardo, waiter in the buffet restaurant, and Yonni from the Spa, both made our meals/spa visits pleasant. Ian, from the Premium Club who was friendly and professional. As you can see, you’ll be impressed with the beauty of this resort and fall in love with every detail it has to offer, but for us, the people made it extra special. We will definitely be back!!!

Room Tip: Choose a 2nd or 3rd floor room as main floor becomes too noisy.

Spent April 22-May 3 at my favorite place. Just love it! Each trip there's something new. Saw spider monkeys this time and more green turtles while snorkeling right off the beach. There was more variety with the nightly shows. Daily barbeques on the beach were so convenient. Almost all the staff are friendly and helpful. The grounds are so well maintained; greatly appreciate the areas that are left "as they were" before the resort was built. My husband and I enjoy the comfort of an all inclusive with plenty of wildlife above and below the sea. We can hardly wait until our next trip.

Room Tip: The Riviera Maya area is more convenient to lobby and entertainment, but the Mayan Beach area is clo...

Points to note - When you go to the pool check the loungers as some were broken underneath the cushion. The loungers at the beach were saggy so you have to get there early to get a decent one. You MUST do the lazy river and the themed restaurants; the best was the Brazilian closely followed by the Japanese.
The Jaccuzi tubs are great but watch the overflow, it runs under the wall into your bedroom!
Don't expect a tremendous range of International drinks but the selection was reasonable
Swim up bar was very good and the entertainment at the pool was good - brush up on your music and film trivia
Dissapointing - No English resort maps, having to pay 600 pesos for the safe for 2 weeks and expected to pay for WiFi access; not what you expect of a 5*. BE AWARE, they will try allsorts to get you to a timeshare presentation - you will NEVER get those 4 hours back, I dodged it but heard ALL ABOUT IT! We would go back, if you like a spacious bed you will have to push them together or TRY requesting a king size.

Room Tip: All rooms are spacious as the basic is a junior suite, lower rooms were easier to access but the hig...

Good Hotel, helpful and friendly staff - good food and good service!

My husband and I spent two weeks (overall) at the hotel in March 2013 with Thomas Cook - we checked out after three nights and went on the Legends of the Yucatan Thomas Cook Tour (which was fantastic, and we've written a separate review about this) checked back into the hotel upon our return from the three night tour and completely relaxed during our holiday.

Full credit to Thomas Cook for a superb holiday - we booked the full package through them, and would do it again.

Would recommend this hotel to stay in - relax, enjoy and have a fabulous holiday!

Room Tip: Go for a 'block' with no lifts or ice machine if you want a quiet room

What a great Resort Hotel, stayed here 12th to 28th May, allocated room 2519 which was supposed to be a sea view but our room was on the other side but the room was fine. Junior Suite nice firm mattresses on the bed, large bathroom with power shower option and whirlpool bath etc. One thing strange for the first 4 night we got a turn down service, fresh towels and sweets on the pillow, then after that we just got the clean towels for one night then nothing at all after that! Buffet restaurants are fab lots of choice but not enough staff to give a great service, generally the whole place needs more staff! Al la cartes Tried the Steak house - great, Mexican- good and the Cajun which was not very good! Breakfasts were great, used the buffet in the Cajun most mornings instead of going all the way to the main hotel building buffet. As we had a rental car and went fishing to Boca Paila most days we didnt spend much time round the pools but the main pool was absolute chaos by around 4pm due to the noise from the drunken louts of all nationalities round the swim up bar! Used the so called 'quiet pool' after that! One thing about the sun lounger beds, as you dont get towel cards at this hotel, people just leave their pool towels on the beds when they are done. So if I needed a bed and there were just the towels and nothing else I just moved the towels and used the bed, no one ever came back to the bed, pure laziness by the other guests as there were crates to put in your spent towels. Night times were a bit boring as the only place to get a drink was at one of the 2 lobby bars, there were no quiet lounges or areas to sit and have a nice drink and talk. There just was not enough seats considering the huge vault of the lobby areas which could have had many more seats and tables. My son spent his the last day of his holiday really ill in bed after eating a hot dog from the beach cafe, think it must have been out all day in lukewarm conditions! They have a barbeque on the beach every day but we never used it. Beach is OK but not one of the better beaches on the Mayan Riviera, need beach shoes to get over the coral and stones before you can swim. This is a HUGE resort with its own lazy river so is no good for anyone with walking difficulties we seemed to walk a long way to get to anywhere. all in all a good holiday apart from the last day.

Room Tip: Avoid the 2 blocks overlooking the pool due to the late afternoon noise.

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Grand Sirenis Resort and are already planning to return. Everything about this resort was excellent - staff, amenities, rooms, food, restaurant choices, cleanliness. We were very impressed with the level of commitment to the conservation of indigenous plant and wildlife within the resort itself, iguanas and racoons became a normal part of daily life as they were so numerous.

24 Hour room service is available and every room has a mini bar which is re-stocked daily. The rooms were spacious and the beds clean and comfortable. There is a concierge desk situated in every block of apartments which is manned from early until late every day making it so easy to make restaurant reservations, enquiries etc. Everything has been designed to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

You must try riding the lazy river in a rubber tube, (these are provided). Its great fun and provides a nice relaxing alternative to the beach or pool for a short time.

The resort is well situated for excursions and we travelled to Chichen Itza, a 2.5 hour journey but well worth it to spend time at one of the new seven wonders of the world. Be warned, it gets very, very hot here. Up to 40 degrees in the shade our guide informed us. We also visited Xcaret, (we were not quite that adventurous as to visit Xplor which offers thrilling activities such as a high level zip wire). Both these parks are within 20 minutes of the resort. Do a little research before you go but we would definitely recommend a visit. Be prepared to stay all day as there is so much available to do. Local buses run approximately every 15 minutes making it easy to visit other parts of the Riviera Maya.

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 week stay at Grand Serenis. What a brilliant holiday we had!

The hotel is large with buildings scattered across the grounds, you do a fair bit of walking about but never more than about 5-10 minutes is necessary. There is a shuttle service but we never needed it. The hotel and grounds are beautifully conditioned and there is lots of wildlife; raccoons, iguanas & possum type creatures most commonly seen. The staff are very friendly and this creates a relaxed atmosphere around the hotel.

Our room was fantastic, huge and in good condition. We were luckily situated in the Mayan Beach block 26 with a gorgeous sea view. The jacuzzi bath is a lovely luxury and the air conditioning/ceiling fan are both welcome. Our room attendant, Salvador was fab, very efficient, friendly and makes the best towel animals EVER! You get a 3L bottle of water every day (only if you have finished the previous day's bottle so make sure you don't leave any) which is great for the room. The mini bar also has cans of fizzy drink, sparkling water & beers as part of the package. The only negative part of the room was that the beds, they could be more comfortable, a small detail though. We bought the wifi package which is patchy but good for checking email. My husband managed to get Netflix but it was intermittent depending on the time of day.

The food was excellent. The buffet restaurants were massive but didn't feel crowded, the variety of food at all 3 meal times was brilliant, I am a fussy eater but was not stuck for choice! Some people may dislike the 'canteen' element but in my opinion the food was fresh, delicious and replenished often. One of the best AI buffets we have been to. We mostly ate there although for a poolside lunch, the grill restaurant had the best selection.
We used 5 of our 6 A La Carte opportunities, the Mexican, Italian and Grill restaurants were all good but special mention must go to the Brazilian which was awesome (assuming you enjoy meat) and the Japanese which was delicious! The live cooking element at the Japanese was entertaining too! By far the best waiter we encountered was Timotteo in the Brazillian restaurant. He was great!

The pools were all fab, we had one day at the relaxing pool which was lovely but we mainly stuck to the activity pool down by the Cajun restaurant. The poolside atmosphere was great for us and it was fab having the swim up bar, Cali the barman was great! The animation team were great and didn't push anyone into joining in. We met some great friends at that pool, fellow Scots, our English, Irish & Welsh neighbours, Europeans, Mexicans & Canadians! Such a great time!

We didn't do many recreation activities but my husband loved the archery and target shooting with Rodolfo! Rodolfo is so good at what he does, the right balance of safety conscious and fun, his English is exceptional and we loved meeting him!

On our last day we went down to use the free (be sure to tip) snorkelling equipment at the beach, it was great and we even hung out with a turtle for a while! Stick to the left of the bay and you might get lucky!

All in all, I can't say enough about the hotel and staff! We had a great time and we'll definitely be back!
