“Very Good Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2014

We stayed in the GBP-Coba for a family group vacation. The Resort ground were very well keep. The rooms cleaned daily were nice a cool at night to sleep. The food at the buffets was very good, but the la cart restaurant was nothing special, buffet was better.
The cart service from Coba to the beach was a +/- 20-30 min wait. The swim-up pool bars were under staffed and long waits. There is only free WiFi from the lobbey for 1 hour per day, Wifi rate are expensive. We spent more time on the beach were our bartender Jose V @ Bar Los Coco Coba Beach looked after us! Our group was 14 and we all had a great time. We would recommend this place for families. Also the avg temp was 95*F and very humid.

Room Tip: Akumal Hotel is the best hotel of the 4 hotels under the GBP. You have everything within walking dis...

The GBP Coba is part of a vast complex of hotels, sharing facilities and easily accessed via the numerous golf cart style busses that run regularly between the lobbies, although the winding paths did take a bit of getting used to for travel on foot!
The hotel lobbies are individual and beautiful, reflecting the Mayan style. These, together with the rooms and restaurants, are all immaculately presented, as are the beautiful gardens with barely a leaf out of place anywhere. We found the staff attentive and friendly all over the hotel and food was to a high standard in all of the restaurants. We tried 8 of the a la carte restaurants during our stay and would highly recommend the Mikado (Japanese) , Tortuga (Brazilian) and Dolce Vita (Italian) restaurants. Booking these was a bit of a pain ( I spent nearly 2 hours of my holiday trying) as the computer system seemed to crash every few minutes. We were also a little surprised that, having read that guests were expected to dress in smart casual attire for the a la cartes, some guests were dressed in cut off denim shorts, which did spoil the atmosphere somewhat and was a little annoying to my menfolk, who were all sweating in long trousers! On previous holidays (including in the Riviera Maya) incorrectly dressed guests have been politely declined admission.
We were particularly thrilled with the wide variety of wildlife that roam the hotel grounds, including coti mundy, racoons, iguanas and a wide variety of beautiful tropical birds that can be heard singing everywhere.
On arrival we had a problem with a minibar that wasn't working but this was rectified within hours of being reported and our rooms were kept wonderfully clean with towel sculptures and chocolates greeting us most evenings on the bed. Thanks Fidelia.
The staff work like Trojans in the heat to ensure a good holiday is had by all and the entertainment team lay on a great variety of activities and evening shows. We felt they had a good approach, letting people know what was available, without forcing anyone looking for peace and quiet to take part.
My only real complaint about the hotel is the lack of available sun beds in the pool areas and the lack of any shade for many of these. We found ourselves several times under trees, which is probably not too safe with a coconut above your head! The problem was made worse by guests ignoring the signs saying that they should not reserve sunbeds and placing towels out at 6am! By 7am it was impossible to find a sunbed with shade around the main pool. The beach tended to be a better bet, or one of the smaller pools.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday at GBP Coba and would recommend it as a destination for any family. The hotel itself is great, as is the range of activities available in the surrounding area.
Nb. Although there was no in-room wi-fi, this was available in lobby areas and we had one hour free usage per day included in our gold package.

It was our first time to Mexico and as a family of four I was a little anxious. I needn't have been. The hotel was amazing. The staff were fantastic and worked so hard. We loved the fact that you could use the facilities at the other hotels. This meant that every day was different. There was always something to eat that we all liked and we thoroughly enjoyed the a la carte restaurants.

I would go back without hesitation. Thank you Grand Bahia Principe.

Amazing place to stay. Even though it's not right at the beach like tulum it's close enough with carts and it has better pool and food. Enjoyed my stay a lot.

The only thing I'd like to see in future is meat options for Muslims.

The Gran Bahia Principe complex near Cancun is huge, but that only adds to the excellence of it.
The receptions of the three hotels, Coba, Akumal and Tulum are stunning. The package is truly all-inclusive with full choice of drinks and food. There are more a-la-carte restaurants than you can cover and the buffet is first rate. The range of food available is a little overwhelming.
There is a huge range of pools and activities from the noisier activity pools, pools for young kids, the quieter family pools and the adult only pools as well, so there is something for everyone.
The beach is beautiful and the water is crystal clear. Plenty of beds available although for the first time this year (this our third visit), the dreaded sun bed reservation had reared its head. This is not a problem we've had before. As it happens I'm an early riser anyway so it wasn't a problem and I'm happy to sit by the pool and watch the sunrise, but by that time there weren't many beds left and a lot of people were disappointed. Unfortunately, there are people that will reserve a sunbed and not return until mid afternoon. However, this is primarily a British disease despite our protestations otherwise. On a positive note though, the beds weren't crammed in, there was plenty of room.
Staff in the buffet and the pool and lobby bars particularly were brilliant, working incredibly hard but always with a smile and a kind word.
Not much more to say, I'd definitely recommend it and add that a 5* resort in Europe is nowhere near the standard that this is, which is why we've been back twice.

just got back from the Bahia coba.beutiful hotel with stunning grounds.Food and drink was plenty, entertainment was good too especially ELVIS,.i think it was a joke having to pay for the HACIENDA on a Thursday nite,we came away disappointed, but the funfair games were good fun.The animation staff were very distant from us,having 2 young lads I thought there might have been more chat and laughs,it was only MANUEL that made an effort,i think we just boosted JESUS EGO by recognising him from last year at DREAMS.....AIRCON in the room was excellent,SHAME about the restaurants,it was a very uncomfortable time eating, one morning I thought I was gonna faint, you could see other people very uncomfortable with this issue too.oh they did have aircon one morning which was great.I would deff recommend this hotel any day,the JAPANEASE restaurant was CLASS,it was great meeting people from around the globe playing football, and drinking with them.Plenty to do in MEXICO and im so glad we swam with the turtles at AKUMEL beach, just brilliant.we are gonna miss MEXICO,....TIP DRINK PLENTY OF BOOZE AND PARTY nobody knows you out there, except for us we bumped into a family from DAVENTRY UK,and I hope the lizard that waited in the line for food with me lived after nicking my meat.

we just came back from our honeymoon at this resort.

this was our first time in cancun, and being no strangers to carribean locations, this resort was by far the best we have seen. we highly recommend it o everyone!

in terms of resort, the beach access is very easy. the beach we stayed at coba beach was fantastic. they hve daily activities and you can swim the coral all around the beach.

the rooms were very clean, the ac was strong and the staff friendly.

the reception was very accomodating as well to our needs.

in terms of food, the buffet was above average. we booked the a la carte dinners the day we got there and i musy say we were blown away by how good they were, specially the brazillian and japanese places. we highly highly recommend these!

we did a couple of excursions as would recommend them. tue first was an all day tour of the mayan pyramd city xixin itza. the tour operators are very friendly and it comes with a tour of pyramids, shopping in a mayan complex, a downtown our of a mayan city, and a swim at a sinkhole which was very cool. very good value for money. take lots of money for souvenirs!

the second was xel-ha, a water park which you can snorkel through, it also includes places to cliff jump and zip line. if you love fish, you will swim with lots!. the fee includes towels, and the mask and snorkel rental (a deposit is required though for these). food was also included.

we highly recommend these both!

lastly, if you can, consder bookin through air canada vacations. they were very professional and we never felt lost!

the weather was hot but still very enjoyable. take lots of sunscreen and bug spray!

this resort was truly wonderful!
