“Beautiful Resort!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

everything was so clean and beautiful!. The staff was very friendly. Lots of local wildlife were roaming around the resort. Almost everything you could possibly want, was right at the resort. whenever we wanted anything, a staff member came immediately to help us.

Room Tip: rooms on the opposite side from the pool are much quieter!

My experience was largely terrific...the place is beautiful and well-maintained, the staff are all extremely helpful and friendly, and between all the different restaurants/buffets/bars/snack bars and pools and beaches, there is a lot to do and many areas of the grounds to explore. My tip for the beach: walk as far to the right as you possibly can. It's quieter down there and really beautiful. My only negatives were that the food isn't GREAT. It isn't bad, I didn't get sick, I did find some places that were better than others, but on the whole if you're looking for a 5-star restaurant experience, this is not the place for you. That said, the restaurant Arlequin was DELICIOUS (by far the best food we had all week) and beautiful (right on the beach). I'd highly recommend it. The only other negative was that there were no designated "non-smoking" areas at the pool or beach, which was unfortunate for non-smokers who had to breathe in cigarette smoke often. Other than that, though, the place was beautiful, clean, well-staffed, and extremely relaxing and fun. I highly recommend.

Room Tip: Request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor near the QUIET POOL (as opposed to the activities pool)

We stayed here for one week in Feb. 2013.The property was spotless, beautiful grounds, pools, etc.. My 15 year old son, myself and my friend with her 13 year old son had two rooms over looking one of the many pools. The rooms were very large, bathrooms large with jetted tubs and everything was spotless. All the restaurants that we dined in were great! Our favorite was one of the Italian rest. The beach was a 5 minute walk away however they did have trolleys running so if you didn't want to walk you didn't have to. They had many activities for adults and kids of all ages, beach volley ball, water basket ball, zumba, soccer, the list is endless. We will definitely return here or one of the other Bahia Principe's around the world!

Room Tip: One pool (the largest) tends to get rowdy I would avoid that one. More for couples wanting to party.

We just got back from a week at GBP Coba and enjoyed our trip. I wouldn't say its the best nor the worst place we've been.

The Good : The staff, grounds, rooms, buildings, bars, pools are all excellent.

Average : food at buffet and a la carte restaurants are average, but remembering the thousands of people they're serving, they do a good job. Dont expect filet mignon or lobster here. The front desk staff do need to be trained a bit better as well.

The Bad : Beach is over 1 km from most rooms, so dont forget anything or want to go to bathroom, its a long way back. The size of the 3 hotels is massive, takes forever to get around. If you're a beach lover, this isn't the place for you, artificial walls to break the waves are approx 40 ft out to form little pools of water, like wading pools, 3 ft high, so you cant go out much, great for kids and elderly people i guess. 1st resort i've been to in past 10 years that charges for deposit box !

Also, had a sore ear from swimming in pool, no problem, but Doctor's visit was $260 (ouch !), guess they know people have insurance.

Absolutely no advantage of Golden Club except you're guaranteed not to have your room near the highway. The bus from airport went direct for everyone at our hotel. You get an extra a la carte, but again, not gourmet food here, so do you need to pay extra?

Dear mppp7676,

Reviews like yours help us to keep focus on costumer satisfaction and fulfillment of our hotel standards, we are very sorry that we could not approach all your expectations, although your were pleased with the kindness and esprit of service of all the members of the Grand Bahia Principe Coba family.

We have discussed the points and suggestions that you remark with all our Departments but particularly our Food&Beverage and Front Desk Managers, to reinforce the services as we are always looking for excellency.

With regards to the incident that your experienced, we want to inform you that we have a strict control from this case in particular; we have a sever daily control of chlorine and Ph of the swimming pools, besides the control of water risks of common use of hydraulic network, spa and Jacuzzis. The measures for preventing, health and preventive maintenance are based on the recommendations of the WHO (World Health Organization) and the FTO (Federation of Tour operators), National Swimming Pool Foundation and legally stipulated in who certifies us as an establishment with healthy and safe pools.

Certainly all kind of factors may be causing this type of infection such as warm climates, flight pressure, time spent in water, allergies and others, we have also sent your comments to the medical center that provides service in our complex.

Once again thank you for your time and comments, hoping to have a second opportunity in a near future.

Sincerely,

Ilse Saldaña

My husband and I just returned from the Coba and we had a great time. The resort is beautiful and spotlessly clean. It is large but easy to navigate after the first day. Trolleys take you the farther out ends of the resort. Yes the chair game goes on at the pools but we went to the pool at the Tulum portion of the property and found chairs easily and we were close to the beach too. The ala cartes were ok. We loved Arlequin at Akumal property. The only negative were the rude guests. Lots of pushy travelers at this resort which of course has nothing to do with the resort itself. Just very surprising.

My wife and I love to spend some alone time when we can....have been to Cancun area several times. Bahia Principe was much needed, and was above our expectations for the price. Our best experience in Mexico yet!!! Can't wait to go back. When we do, it will be Bahia Principe!!

A really well run resort. Beautiful surroundings, great staff, clean, great drinks!!! (especially the pina coladas and daiquiris) etc. My parents and I stayed at the resort from March 16 to March 23. I would definitely recommend this resort to friends and family. The only two issues we had was there was not enough lounge chairs by the pools or at the beach. On vacation I like to sleep in a little and then go for breakfast before hitting the beach or lounging around the pool. By 9:30a.m. there was absolutely no lounge chairs. 1/4 of the chairs were empty but people left towels and rocks on the chairs to save their spots. Many did not come back for hours while people had wait and place towels on the ground or bring out chairs from their rooms. I realize that I went during peak season; however, I don't want to wait hours for a place to sit. The food was quite good, especially the Japanese, Seafood, and French restaurants. The buffet was good but you often had to wait as food went quickly and there were often empty or rear empty trays. If you waited 15-20 mins they would eventually be refilled but again the food went quickly. If you eat at the buffet make sure you should sit at Joana Maria's section. She is an absolutely amazing waitress. We always made sure she waited on us. Overall great trip!
