“Awesome vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

We went the end of Jan 2013. Even though it was far from the airport - the van ride was about an hour and a half it was in the evening so we weren't missing anything. The grounds were beautiful, pools great, food wonderful but pace yourself. We would recommend the third floor. The first night we were moved from the first because of an issue with the room but they moved us fairly quickly and it was great from there. Don't eat at the Brazilian restaurant as the food is limited, meat is cooked rare, and salad bar is limited. The food at the fish one was awesome. We loved the entertainment staff at the pool and Louigie does a killer water exercise. We went into Playa Del Carmen on a rainy day and it was a great day. We don't drink so loved the tea and cookies at the coffee bar at night and the mixed fruit drinks.
We did wait an hour for our pick up van to go back to the airport but the line up at the airport was also an hour or more long just to check in our bags. You have to take a trolley to the beach but even that was fun and you got to relax on the way there and see the other sister resorts you can go to. The sand is beautiful and you can see fish waist deep. There were lots of families there and would love to take my kids here.

Room Tip: Third floor by one of the pool - less noise. We stayed in 26A.

We went to this hotel the first week of December. We've been to a number of all-inclusive hotels in Mexico and we've been pretty happy with them, but this one was by far our favourite. Usually we do things away from the "compound" such as rent a car, do some excursions, visit local sites, but this time we didn't leave at all. There is so much to do on-site (managed to get two dives in going through the hotel service, one ok and one really really good, used the free bikes, played tennis, snorkeled, swam, drank!, ate tons, used the gym, etc) and with three hotel complexes to visit, we didn't feel confined. We went at a quiet time of year so that was a big plus. I really have no complaints at all about the room, the staff, the food, or the amenities. We will definitely go there again.

Another great visit at the Gran Bahia Principe Coba! My husband and I have been here 3 times and continue to love all the services, the food, the drinks and most importantly the beach. I am always blown away when I hear people complain about this resort. All of the staff are friendly and very accommodating. My only suggestion to visitors is to go to the beach earlier to put your towel down so you can get chairs under the hut. There is something to do for everyone of all ages and of different interests including, water sports, aqua fit classess, zumba classes, karoake, fitness room, tennis, soccer, volleyball, snorkelling, kids activities and water park/ splash pad, drinking games and lots of live entertainment. Also, this resort is 20 minutes away from the Tulum Mayan Ruins, which is a beautiful site to see. For anyone under 40 I would also recommend going to Coco Bongo's in Playa Del Carmen....an incredible live show/ nightclub. Hands down, I recommend the Gran Bahia Principe!

This was our seventh time with the gran Bahia resort group. We have been twice to the gbp ambar and five times to the coba. I never look at other resorts, there is no need. The rooms are spacious and the bed is firm, which I like. Everything is constantly being cleaned and maintained. The grounds are immaculate. I cannot believe when I read that some people cannot find something they like. There is such an array of food it is staggering. The drinks are NEVER watered down. The staff is amazing starting with the two felixes who have gone above and beyond to make each of our 5 stays at the coba wonderful. There us nothing like being greeted like family!!! We are returning for two weeks in April. A word of advice if you don't like the crowds go in September or April, at this time there is never a problem finding loungers anywhere. This resort is our favorite!!!!

My wife and I spent a week at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba in early Feb.2013. We were very impressed with the condition and quality of the resort. The Coba is a bit off the beach but great transportation is provided with trams to take you anywhere you wish to go on the property which contains four separate resorts that you have full use of. We are in our seventies and found the mix of older and youger families to be just about right. The food and beverages were of good quality and the service was way better than average.

Room Tip: If you need to be in and out of the surf often select a room closest to the ocean. If you want to ha...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

A friend and I stayed here the first week of February. We really enjoyed ourselves. The resort is huge, one of 3 that are all connected. Lots of options to eat, we ate at 4 of the a la cart restaurants. The best was the Japanese, the show was great, the food was fresh. The rest were just ok. Both my friend and I thought the food was pretty much what you can find on the buffet but presented better and brought out to you vs getting it yourself.
The beaches were nice, I've been to better though. Great for kids and splashing around, but not for snorkeling. If you want to snorkel go to the nearby town of Akumal, they have a public beach, and it's amazing for snorkeling.
The rooms were spacious and clean. The toiletries provided were really basic, I would suggest bringing your own. Our room was in a very quiet section of the hotel, we were in building 2. When we first checked in we were given a room facing the childrens play area that was currently under construction and we asked to move. We were moved without incident. I was disappointed initially however because I did email ahead to request a quiet room away from activity and it seems that email was ignored.
I paid for the premium wifi and it didn't work. They give you a number to call for technical help, but nobody answers it. I called several times over the span of a few days. I was compensated eventually for the cost of the service, however it was an inconvenience having to deal with it.
The grounds are beautiful and well kept, and for the most part the staff was great.
If you are not a drinker, you have to be very clear and careful to state you do not want alcohol in your beverages. I have an allergy to alcohol and despite asking very clearly was brought alcoholic drinks 3 times. Eventually I resorted to telling the servers I was pregnant and that seemed to get the message through.
Overall a super resort, great value, I would go back.

Room Tip: You can email ahead, but it may not help. Ask for a room near the quiet pool if you don't want...

Dear Lara H,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience here in the Grand Bahía Príncipe Coba. The comments and opinions of all our guest are really important is one of the best sources to detect were we need to reinforce and improve our service. We have review your observations with our Food&Beverage Manager, regarding the A la cart Restaurants and the service in the Bars. Also we already spoke with the external company that provide us the Internet service and our System department in order to provide a better service.

Furthermore I would like to express my appreciation for your concerns.

Once again thank you for your time and comments, hoping to have a second opportunity in a near future.

We had a wonderful time at this resort. It is however a bit far from the airport in Cancun, over two hours each way with drop offs and pick-ups. The food was fantastic, great selection. We ate at the Gourmet on our last evening there and the Duck a l'Orange was amazing. The beach is great with lots of activities for everyone. The rooms at Coba are huge and very clean, our only complaint is not enough lighting in the bathroom.
All in all a great experience. I certainly would recommend the Bahia Principe to anyone.

Room Tip: If you are staying at the Coba site, try and get a room in the middle of the complex. We had a room...
