We stayed at the Grand Oasis Tulum from July 15-22, 2013. We have stayed at many all inclusive resorts in various parts of Mexico, and this location had one of the best beaches/swimming areas. Our room was located very close to the beach and pools, even though we didn't have an oceanfront room. We stayed at the Grand as opposed to the regular Oasis Tulum, and would highly recommend doing this because of the additional dining options, as well as the availability of beach chairs. The Grand side was busy, but we could always get a group of 4 chairs, whereas the Oasis Tulum side looked far more busy. One thing we liked about this resort is that they don't have towel cards, so even though people pulled the usual stunt of putting their towels on and claiming chairs early in the day, hotel staff often walked along the beach and removed unattended towels.
One of the best features of this resort is their many dining options. We booked a la carte dinners each night - there were many restaurants to choose from, and availability was never a problem. The service and food at each restaurant was OUTSTANDING, we couldn't have asked for better! Of special note, Guadalupe provided an amazing drink service to us on the beach each day - she recognized us and even remembered our order, and always greeted us with a smile. Carlos worked at several of the dining locations, and also provided exceptional service to us. We had buffet for breakfast each day, and as long as we got there early, the selection was good. However, if we arrived after 10 a.m. the buffet was very busy and picked over, and table space, plates and glasses were hard to find. The lunch buffet provided lots of pasta options which suited my family well.
We didn't attend any of the theatre shows, so can't comment on the entertainment options at this resort.
The rooms were adequate, nothing fancy, but met our needs. We are a family with 2 teenagers and asked for adjoining rooms with a king bed in one room and 2 doubles in the other. At check-in, they assured us that that's what they were giving us, but when we arrived at our room, we learned that they were simply side by side, each with 2 double beds, and not adjoining. We asked the front desk to rectify this, they told us to come back in the morning. We did, and were assured by a Manager that there was LOTS of availability and we would be provided with our request at 11 a.m. that day. When we returned to get our new rooms, they told us that they didn't have availability for our request, unless we wanted to pay $100+ per night to upgrade. We asked for them to upgrade us for free, given that it was their mix-up; they would not agree to this.
This hotel provided an in-room mini bar, with water, beer and pop. However, they were not open to requests i.e. less pop and more water, and one time forgot to fill up our min bar altogether. We tried to communicate this to the front desk so that we could get a few bottles of water, but it was difficult for them to understand and it took a few hours to accommodate.
The maid service was adequate, typically early in the day so that when we returned to our rooms after lunch, they had been cleaned. However, on one day they forgot to service our rooms, and we had to go looking for the service in the evening hours. As well, shampoo and conditioner and soap were only replenished when we requested these - this was not done automatically as has been our typical experience at other hotels/resorts.
We did 3 scuba diving trips through Blue Experience diving, and would HIGHLY recommend this diving operation. Blue Experience picked us up and dropped us back off at the resort, and provided an honest, affordable scuba diving experience.
Overall, we would recommend this hotel for it's great beach and dining, and were happy with our stay.
