“Outstanding beach, fantastic food, great service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

We stayed at the Grand Oasis Tulum from July 15-22, 2013. We have stayed at many all inclusive resorts in various parts of Mexico, and this location had one of the best beaches/swimming areas. Our room was located very close to the beach and pools, even though we didn't have an oceanfront room. We stayed at the Grand as opposed to the regular Oasis Tulum, and would highly recommend doing this because of the additional dining options, as well as the availability of beach chairs. The Grand side was busy, but we could always get a group of 4 chairs, whereas the Oasis Tulum side looked far more busy. One thing we liked about this resort is that they don't have towel cards, so even though people pulled the usual stunt of putting their towels on and claiming chairs early in the day, hotel staff often walked along the beach and removed unattended towels.

One of the best features of this resort is their many dining options. We booked a la carte dinners each night - there were many restaurants to choose from, and availability was never a problem. The service and food at each restaurant was OUTSTANDING, we couldn't have asked for better! Of special note, Guadalupe provided an amazing drink service to us on the beach each day - she recognized us and even remembered our order, and always greeted us with a smile. Carlos worked at several of the dining locations, and also provided exceptional service to us. We had buffet for breakfast each day, and as long as we got there early, the selection was good. However, if we arrived after 10 a.m. the buffet was very busy and picked over, and table space, plates and glasses were hard to find. The lunch buffet provided lots of pasta options which suited my family well.

We didn't attend any of the theatre shows, so can't comment on the entertainment options at this resort.

The rooms were adequate, nothing fancy, but met our needs. We are a family with 2 teenagers and asked for adjoining rooms with a king bed in one room and 2 doubles in the other. At check-in, they assured us that that's what they were giving us, but when we arrived at our room, we learned that they were simply side by side, each with 2 double beds, and not adjoining. We asked the front desk to rectify this, they told us to come back in the morning. We did, and were assured by a Manager that there was LOTS of availability and we would be provided with our request at 11 a.m. that day. When we returned to get our new rooms, they told us that they didn't have availability for our request, unless we wanted to pay $100+ per night to upgrade. We asked for them to upgrade us for free, given that it was their mix-up; they would not agree to this.

This hotel provided an in-room mini bar, with water, beer and pop. However, they were not open to requests i.e. less pop and more water, and one time forgot to fill up our min bar altogether. We tried to communicate this to the front desk so that we could get a few bottles of water, but it was difficult for them to understand and it took a few hours to accommodate.

The maid service was adequate, typically early in the day so that when we returned to our rooms after lunch, they had been cleaned. However, on one day they forgot to service our rooms, and we had to go looking for the service in the evening hours. As well, shampoo and conditioner and soap were only replenished when we requested these - this was not done automatically as has been our typical experience at other hotels/resorts.

We did 3 scuba diving trips through Blue Experience diving, and would HIGHLY recommend this diving operation. Blue Experience picked us up and dropped us back off at the resort, and provided an honest, affordable scuba diving experience.

Overall, we would recommend this hotel for it's great beach and dining, and were happy with our stay.

we originally planned to spend 10 days at this resort, but on the day we arrived there was no power (and no water). Initially they told us it was temporary, but later on we found out it was their 3rd day without power. My immediate concern was the food served at the restaurants.....and the possible lack of hygiene from the people in the kitchen.........The place, tough, is beautiful. The coral reef is right there, tropical fish swim around you, the beach is the best one I've ever seen. I definitely would like to come back to experience all of this. We only spent one night. We got transferred to a different resort in Playa del Carmen. We would like to thank manager Alex, who helped us with our transfer and was very professional.

I've spent a wonderful week at Grand Oasis Tulum. The hotel is smaller than other resorts I saw in the area, but there is enough space for everyone. The beach is amazing, you can snorkel right in front of the hotel and see lots of fish and other sea creatures. There are also 4-5 fishing boats waiting for you at 7:30 a.m. every morning, if you like fishing. The food is fantastic and the service is exceptional. I'd like to thank Guadelupe from the beach bar, Hugo from the main bar, Manuel from the Sea Food restaurant and Jorge and Noe from the bar upstairs. Also, special thanks to Ingrid and Cesar from the reception and to Fiona, the site Director! You have all made my stay unforgettable! Will definitely be back!!

We just returned from our first trip to Mexico and had an amazing time, mostly because of the experience we had at the Grand Oasis Tulum, which surpassed our every expectation. The hotel is beautiful and sits on such an amazing stretch of beach that we spent most of our time in the water. Giant sea turtles regularly walk up the beach at around midnight to lay their eggs and it is such a breathtaking experience to witness. There are many restaurants at the resort and there is certainly something for everyone's tastes. The more upscale restaurants (seafood, steakhouse, Brazilian, Mediterranean) were EXCELLENT. The staff at the resort were among the friendliest that we have ever encountered anywhere. We were treated like family and felt like our presence there was truly appreciated. Special thanks go out to Ingrid and Caesar at the front desk, Hector and Pepe in the sports and entertainment department (they made my wife's first snorkelling experience unforgettable), Manuel from the seafood restaurant, and I cannot forget Fiona, the general manager who is amazing.

The resort has entertainment on a nightly basis, and there is never a shortage of things to do. Geographically, it is well situated between Cancun and the Mayan ruins in Coba, and the beautiful market and nightlife in Playa del Carmen is only 25 minutes away. In a nutshell, you will not regret this choice of a destination for one minute. We will be returning to the same resort next year.

My friend and I were charmed by this hotel. The beach is unbelievable, with white sand, crystal clear water, lots of shade and comfy sofas to relax. This is a good resort for you if you are looking for tranquillity in a paradise setting.
The food is delicious, if you want you can eat in a different restaurant every night and you don't have to wake up at 7 o'clock in the morning to make your reservation. The service is great and personalized. Special mention to Jorge and Noé at Café del mar, who made us discover a good mexican wine, Manuel at The Careyes for his good sense of humor and Gilberto at the buffet, who went out of his way to bring my friend bananas because they weren't any for breakfast.
The room was always super clean and it never was a problem to get a new beach towel. On the beach, special thanks to Guadalupe for her beautiful smile and her friendly service. We had a fun snorkeling experience with Pepe, Hector and Fabio. It gives you a chance to see a lot of corals and fishes, and the guys really take care of you.
Our stay wouldn't have been the same without Cesar and Ingrid at the reception. There was a situation upon our arrival but they solved the problem right away and answered all of our questions with a smile.

It was my fifteenth time in a resort and I can honestly say it was BY FAR the best !

We booked the Grand Oasis Tulum last minute. The overall location is great; however, the service was poor. The Grand Oasis is connected to the regular Oasis Tulum. The overall resort (Grand and Oasis) is small compared to the other mega resorts which is nice. The Grand side is much better with better resturantes and rooms. The Grand guests have access to the regular Oasis; however, the Oasis guests have to pay an upgrade fee to dine on the Grand side and cannot use the Grand's pools. Also, the Grand guests have access to premium drinks at no charge. We had a nice clean modern room which opened up right on the beach due to booking their Sian Kian level. That level also has some other minor benefits (free wi-fi (actually worked well), use of a smart car). The drinks are just average, stick with beer and basic mixed drinks (bacardi and coke, etc...). Even though tips are included in your room rate if you want half way decent service I would tip some amount in the beginning. The food was average, except for the buffet which was terrible. The food at the Grand resturantes was decent. They have some entertainment at night which is ok, a little cheesy but our biggest complaint was the service, nobody seemed to have a clue about anything. We were supposed to stay for 4 nights but the power went out after our second night and was out all day and they didn't know when it was going to come back on. With the power out, so goes the AC and water (need pumps for their water). Supposedly it was the whole area, so we asked to be transferred to the Grand Oasis Cancun which they accomodated us. Completely different resorts, the Grand Oasis Cancun is huge mega resort, party scene. Again, like Tulum, the Grand is connected to the regular Oasis hotel. DO NOT STAY AT THE REGULAR OASIS SIDE unless you are under the age of 22 and like dealing with drunk teens/students. The Grand side is quieter but the rooms are definetly not as nice as Tulum. The Grand side also does not have seperate pools. The pools are just ok. The Grand side does have its own resturantes which were decent, the buffet was better in Cancun than in Tulum. Overall the food / drinks were better in Cancun then Tulum. Service still was lacking, again nobody seems to be able to answer a question. The beach is great, busy, but perfect sand and water. So overall, if you are looking for something quiet and nice, Tulum is the place (Grand side!). The Cancun resort is huge, busy and loud. I think if we go back we probably will pass on staying with the Grand Oasis.

Room Tip: For Tulum - definetly get a room on the beach...might have to be San Kian level. For Cancun just st...

What a great place, elegant and calm. Excellent, outstanding service. Everyone is so sincerely nice and helpful. Upon arrival, a welcome drink and a wet towel to freshen up while you register. They even parked my car. Mr. Ortiz was very helpful and a great source of information. The room, very nice and comfortable, with a breathtaking view of the turquoise sea. The beach, protected by a reef, makes a great place to swim and snorkel. Crystal clear water, and white sand. One of the best beaches I have seen, both in Mexico and the Caribbean. Several pools, free of crowds and raunchy party people. The music, soft and relaxing. Hence, their motto: The Calm Resort.
Free snorkeling excursions, about 1 hr long, along the reef; they provide vests and snorkeling equipment. Plenty of towels, neatly folded. A coffee shop, with real coffee, not that Starbucks junk. And pastries. The food: excellent, in both the buffet and a-la-carte restaurants. Nightly entertainment.
It was our anniversary- They sent a bottle of sparkling vine and chocolate-covered strawberries. I can't say enough about this place.I can't wait to go back. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Get a beachfront room.
