4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Just back from Kantenah last week (April4-11). We booked Canada Transfers round trip for $125, for the eight of us and also requested Reef friendly sunscreen, biodegradable bug spray and beer, all were waiting for us in the van when we got to the airport.

Arrived at Kantenah in about an hour and check in was easy, filled out a form and got our keys and information. We were in room 5132 which is villa 51, third floor and our friends were all in villa 50, first floor. We checked in before noon and although check in is after 3pm they told us that our rooms were ready, after we were driven to the villas with our luggage we found our room had not been cleaned yet as did one of our friend in villa 50, when we called the front desk they were very apologetic and said it would be done right away. We walked our luggage over to one of our friends rooms that was done and left it there when we went to the pool. When returning to our room to get ready for dinner we found a bottle of champagne on ice ( nice touch) in our room because it was not ready when we first arrived. The rooms are beautiful and spacious and we very much enjoyed the balcony in the morning. We would make coffee in our room and enjoy it sitting out, some evenings we would get a glass with some Baileys in it before returning to our room and have it in our coffee in the morning yummmm! The fridge was refilled each day with bottled beer, pop and water. We were given a courtesy call almost every day to make sure we were satisfied with our room and service. We were very happy with our room and its location, which was not that far from the main pool or the buffet and even closer to the Beach.

The food was very good in the buffet as well we ate at the Steak House, the Beach BBQ, and booked for the Show Table at the Japanese we enjoyed the food at all. The service at the Al a Cartes was excellent and as well at the Buffet for dinner, as for breakfast and lunch there were many days we were not offered coffee at breakfast or a beverage at lunch this is an area that needs improvement. Drinks were great, best for us at the two beach bars and the Kantenah, Colonial, and Riviera Lobby's.

We enjoyed the Entertainment.

We signed up for the Segway Tour $35 pp and it was worth every penny soooo much fun and not nearly as hard as I thought it would be and we had two ( energetic fit ) seniors in our group. Our guide was awesome and taught us about the Flora and Fauna at the Resort, this was a great way to see all four sections of this massive Resort. One thing that could be improved upon was that it was hard to hear our guide talking, only the first three people in the line of eight could hear so maybe something that can amplify his voice so we could all hear.

Pools and Beach were wonderful. We went Snorkelling at the beach and saw lots of fish and my husband saw Sting Rays twice. Lots of chairs at both pools and beach.

We were able to get a van for eight to take us into Playa del Carmen one evening, Orlando dropped us off around 5pm and picked us up at 10:30 pm. We payed more to do it this way compared to a Collectivo but we enjoyed the convenience of all eight of us going together and being picked up at our choice of times. There is a list of prices for transportation at the entrance to the lobby.

The Resort is very beautiful, very well looked after as the staff are always working hard on cleaning, maintenance and repairs. We LOVED the natural environment that they work hard to keep, and all the wildlife running around to enjoy. The staff at this resort were also wonderful to be around as they were soooo helpful and friendly. I have been to many AI resorts in Mexico, Dominican and Cuba and this is one of my very favourites. I would highly recommend it to anyone for a wonderful vacation. The only reason I did not give this resort five stars is the beverage service in the breakfast and lunch buffets, that on some days was non existent. Everything else was awesome.

One final note ........ Do not miss out on the amazing cappachinoes from the lobby bar and for a little something extra try putting a shot of Baileys in it Mmmmmm good.

Thank You Grand Palladium Kantenah ....... And all the staff that helped to make our vacation AMAZING. We will be back.

We have just returned from the Grand Palladium after a 2 week honeymoon. On arrival we got a complimentary upgrade to a Junior suite. The food at this resort was fantastic. We felt that the resorts biggest assets were the staff who couldn't do enough for us.
The grounds are clean and safe, and the beach is fantastic.
For people who moan about the coral in the sea which prevents swimming please remember the coral was there a long time before the hotel!!
One thing we found annoying was other guests feeding the wild animals, please do not do it the animals are wild and if ever a hurricane was to occur then we as tourists would be evacuated but the animals will have lost the ability to hunt as they will become reliant on the tourists for food and will die. My advice would be to ask Paladium staff to intervene when they see the animals been given food.
We will certainly be looking to revisit this resort in the future

My husband and I made our third trip to Grand Palladium March 21-28, and it was just as good or better than our previous visits. On our previous visits we stayed in the Colonial section, but this time we had a room in the Kantenah section. The rooms at Kantenah have been renovated recently.

This is a beautiful resort, very clean, and with excellent service. Unlike a few people in previous reviews, we found the reception staff to be very pleasant and helpful. All the staff work extremely hard and definitely deserve their tips. We really enjoy the size of the resort, which kept us from getting bored. You could visit a different pool and a different restaurant every day if you wanted. The beach is beautiful, but unfortunately on this trip, on one occasion we were unable to find a lounge chair on the beach as many of them had been reserved by someone's belongings. Where were these people? The beach itself did not seem overly crowded with people.

The restaurants are amazing and we didn't have any trouble getting in to the three a la carte restaurants we visited without a reservation. Our favourite was the Mediterranean restaurant Mare Nostrum, where we sat outdoors. We also really enjoyed the barbecue on the beach. The food was great, and it was so well organized. The only complaint I would have about the buffet restaurant is that the coffee in the morning was not very good. After the first couple days I switched to hot chocolate in the morning, which was delicious, and I had espresso in the evening. Also the hand sanitizer in the buffet restaurants is a fantastic idea, one less thing to worry about.

Everything went very smoothly when we arrived at the hotel. It was early morning, too early to check in. But we left our suitcases with the concierge, had something to eat, and enjoyed the pool until check-in time. Remember to pack your bathing suit, etc. in your carry-on, and make sure your sunscreen is easily accessible from your suitcase.

We did two excursions, an all-day trip to Chichen Itza, which was very enjoyable, and a late-afternoon shopping trip to Playa del Carmen. Both were reserved through Transat Holidays. They used a mini-bus for the trip to Playa del Carmen, and as we were the last two people to be picked up, we had to sit in the front with the driver. I ended up sitting in the middle in a very small seat, probably intended for a child - the headrest hit me in the middle of the back. It was very uncomfortable and likely unsafe. In spite of this, we had a great trip to Playa del Carmen. We had dinner at a very nice restaurant called Ajua Maya, which was recommended to us by the Transat Holidays representative. Excellent food and excellent margaritas!

We would definitely return to this resort!

This was our first visit to the Grand Palladium Kantenah (from March 28, 2013 to April 4, 2013). When we arrived we were told that our room would be situated near the parking lot and main lobby. This was not acceptable to us and we requested another room. They could not provide us with an alternate room without our having to pay $400 for an upgrade to a junior suite, which we did. That was the unfortunate part. Things got better from thereon. The property was very clean and spacious. There were plenty of animals running around the property which the kids loved. The pools were the cleanest and warmest we have experienced in all our years of travel to the Mayan Riviera. The Ocean-fed pool on the south end of the property was a pleasant surprise. If you go to this resort you must check it out. There is a terraced seating area with its own bar and washroom facilities not to mention a number of open-air cabanas for lounging. The buffets offered great variety and were exceptional. The beach was very long and well maintained so if you enjoy a long stroll along the beachfront you would appreciate this one.
We would highly recommend this resort.

When we stepped out of our bus we knew we were in paradise. Everything was so lush and beautiful, beyond what we could have ever expected. My husband and I stayed at Grand Palladium Kantenah from April 4-April 11. We can say with confidence that this resort is perfect for everyone; couples, families, people off all ages, there really is something for everyone. Traveling as a couple, even though this is not an adult only resort, it can still be tailored to suit your trip. On the Rivera/White Sand side of the resort there is a private adult only pool on an island (amazing right!) we spent most of our days there relaxing, the spa is 18+ and we enjoyed many of the facilities there that are included at no cost (hot tubs, sauna, waterfalls that you can stand under and an adult only infinity pool) and in addition to that another perk for couples is that the a la cart restaurants have adult only nights, they have a rotating schedule if you want to enjoy a kid free dinner. As for the food at the resort, my husband was over the moon in love with it. He is a carnivore and tried every kind of meat the resort had to offer (and trust me there was a lot!). I on the other hand am a vegetarian and found it a challenge to find food that was tasty and meat free. When I found out they could make veggie burgers at the grill, I was pretty happy and I had that for lunch most days. One tip for the resort to improve upon, would be better vegetarian options in restaurants. Unfortunately I did get food poisoning while I was at the resort, luckily with a little Pepto and some rest; I was good to go by the next day. My guess it was either from eating buffet scrambled eggs…or lettuce (I know not a good idea). My husband took Dukorol before we went and he ate everything under the sun there and didn’t get sick…it might be something that is worth looking into before you go. I don’t blame the staff in any way for this, they are very diligent about the food, constantly replenishing the food and they always make sure you use hand sanitizer before entering the buffets. I don’t want to make it sound like it was all bad, because it wasn’t; we loved the dessert crepes that were made fresh at the buffets on certain nights, beyond delish! We had been warned about ‘time share’ people before going, so I did have my guard up when we arrived. I am happy to say that we were not approached once by time share people, they weren’t even an issue for us at all. There were also no pushy/aggressive vendors on site as there can be at other resorts. When you get off your shuttle, if you arrive before 3 pm a bell boy will take your suit case and line it up in the lobby, he will watch it and you can come back and get it when you check into your room at 3:00. We laughed as we saw tourist get off buses and try to grab their suit cases away from him, not realizing this was common practice and they need to store your suitcases there before you check in. Also don’t worry, he is not trying to make money off of helping you with your suitcase, the bell boys are actually really sweet helpful people just doing their job. We found all of the staff to be very sweet and genuinely kind people, who were proud of their jobs and went out of their way to make guests happy. We saw staff constantly cleaning and maintaining the resort. Their work really paid off as the resort is spotless. One of our favorite staff was the boat driver. There is a boat the drives around the lagoons in the White Sands/Rivera area. It’s free to ride the boat, but I don’t think many people knew they could ride it for free, so they avoided it. The boat driver is great; he slows down the boat so you can take pictures and even stops to point out local wild life or to watch a staff feeding the fish, you can tell he loves his job and really puts his heart into it. Another plus of many at this resort is all the wild life, we LOVED the iguanas. There was even one that lived under our building and was there to greet us every day. We saw many weddings going on, and if you are a bride considering getting married that this resort, you should pick it! It’s the type of resort where you would have no worries at all, they take care of everything. There are BEAUTIFUL wedding venues, there flowers are gorgeous and the spa would be an amazing place to get your hair and makeup done. We were actually kind of jealous that we didn’t get married at Grand Palladium. All in all this was an amazing vacation, made possible by the wonderful staff who take such pride in what they do. Thanks Grand Palladium! We will defiantly be back!
