“Beautiful Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Myself & my family are not new to visiting Mexico so we knew what to expect having previously stayed at a different hotel within the same area. This time we chose the Colonial & was very pleasantly surprised & loved the way that it was set up. However, when we checked in the receptionist seemed quite sour faced & there was no welcome drink which we have received previously.
The rooms were quite spacious with a mini bar which was restocked every day. The view from our balcony which was trees & a very worn looking wall with peeling paint.
There was a good selection of Al A carte restaurants & I liked the fact that you didn't have to pre book, you just turned up, if the restaurant was full they gave you a pager.
We visited Ribs & More twice, Bamboo, Mexican, the steakhouse & the Italian.
The entertainment staff were good, friendly enough & played great music around the pool. They worked tirelessly to try & involve us in the activities that were going on.
It was nice to see 3 weddings take place an unusually there was a church on site.
The Thomson rep was ok but even though they are at the hotel every day it is difficult to see them. We had a family emergency in the UK & need information on flight back & we had to wait around for what seemed an age to speak to the rep who was talking about nothing in particular with a couple. Once we did speak to her she was helpful but then started speaking about nothing in particular again which we didn't want to hear.
Good selection of bars & the constant cleaning was amazing.
Would definitely visit again.

First time staying at Grand Palladium, and definitely not the last...the grounds were very well kept. The service was amazing...The only reason to leave the resort was if you wanted to do an excursion. The restaurants were great. The presentation on the food and desserts were fantastic...The beaches were very clean!!! If you plan on having drinks, make sure you stop at the sports bar in the coloniel lobby...Francisco the bartender was the BEST!!! No matter how busy the bar was, he made sure to keep the bar clean, and customers happy...if I was a bar owner, I would be honored to have Francisco work for me...planning a trip for next year with a large group!!!

This was our first time at the resort and we are definitely going back next year. Great location beautiful beach and a very clean resort with great food. When you're there make sure you stop at the Sports Bar and see Francisco the bartender. Best bartender at the resort. Tell him Pete and Susie from Chicago say hi.

We really enjoyed this resort! We've been to the Akumal, Mexico area before, but never to an all inclusive resort. The room was very nice and clean. Our building was centrally located so it was easy to get to the beach, either of the two main pools, and the main food places for our part of the resort. The food was good and we never had a problem finding something we could eat and my wife is a vegetarian. We had some slow service in some of the nicer the fancier restaurants, but the food was still good, and we never had a service problem in the buffet restaurants. On our next trip we would probably just stick to the buffets.
The sports bar was cool, with lots of different games to play. On Sunday the bartender put the Green Bay Packers game on the giant projection screen tv for us. He kept refilling our beers and snacks before we even ran out, and he made us a few custom shots without us even asking. He was a lot of fun to talk to also.
We also went for massages at the super nice spa, they gave us a two for one coupon. The massage was excellent and they also let you use the spa pools, sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi for the rest of our stay at the hotel. Really take advantage of this place if you go, it's pretty cool.
The main pools were very large. The Colonial was where we spent most of our time, it was a little deep for walking around with drinks, but we managed :). We also met 3 great couples from England and spent time talking and drinking with them. We told them about Akumal beach and the snorkeling there and end up running into them one day at the beach.
I could point out a few minor negative things, but I don't want to because we had such a nice experience. Our mini-fridge broke one morning, but I didn't have time to complain about it, because we were heading out for a day trip adventure, but by the time we got back that evening it had already been fixed. It was nice to have cold bottled water, soda, and Beer when we got back!
The kids area was closed, because they are renovating it, but there were still lots of kids things to do, but we didn't bring the kids...this time.
We did have some problems getting smaller bills for tipping, so make sure you plan ahead for that. Overall we had a lot of fun and would definitely return...hopefully soon!

Room Tip: not giving away our secret!

The complex is fantastic, our room 2020 was fantastic, the food was fantastic, the transport around the complex was fantastic, the staff were fantastic, our whole experience of grand palladium was Fantastic... our First choice Rep (Lindsey) was Fantastic so helpful in everyway nothing was to much trouble,
The beach is just at the edge of the complex it was Fantastic.
The rep recommended the captain Hook experience for our group, and we were NOT disappointed, Overall we cant wait to return, hopefully in the near future.....

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the main pool...

fantastic holiday, first class accommodation, service, food and facilities, it was my first time to Mexico and grand palladium resorts, most def 5* , full use of spa, gym facilities a bonus, ideal for both families and couples, was nice not to see large groups of youngsters, the only problem I had was nothing to do with hotel/staff but was with some holidays. makers not sure of nationality but some were very rude and ignorant. only issue I had with room was one night we woke up to find water pouring through air conditioning, reported it and within 10 mins they were there sorting it out and moping all the water up. we also had a birthday in our group and the restaurant were more than happy to make a fab birthday cake and bring to table. an added bonus are the animals roaming around the resort, ie raccoons, coties , lizards, you are advised not to feed but find it hard not to as they are so cute and we found totally harmless. another plus we found was that we could venture out on our own and catch bus to neighboring areas . I would go back tomorrow if I could and hope to return one day . the specialist restaurants are fab but do need to arrive quite early as these get busy. could not fault the holiday at all .
