Just returned from this resort and I have nothing but positive comments to make. This was our first time in Mexico and not our last! I had emailed the hotel with some requests prior to our arrival and for restaurant bookings. These were sorted for our arrival and much appreciated.
The hotel, rooms and surroundings were immaculate and well attended to. There seemed to be staff attending to the gardens all day and they were friendly and cheerful. We never saw one unhappy member of staff. They go out their way to accommodate you and make you feel welcome. The buggy drivers especially were so considerate and helpful and would often pick you up when they saw you walking along the road dropping you off at your room. This was really appreciated especially when the weather was bad. Hector especially deserves a mention as he was so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the buffet restaurants with plenty of choices, well prepared and well presented. We enjoyed the a la carte restaurants with the exception of 'Le Gourmet' which was such a disappointment. Food was cold with ridiculously small portion sizes but we did enjoy Mikado, Don Pablo, Dolce Vite and especially Gran Tortuga where we ate till we burst!
Room was cleaned daily and mini bar stocked up with our requests. My tips would include:
Take insulated tumblers with you. They hold more and keep your drinks colder.
Take pesos not dollars. It is the local currency and tips in this currency are appreciated. I don't understand why the shops on resort have everything priced in dollars.
We requested our a la carte restaurants by email prior to arrival and this was accommodated. They seem to fill up quickly plus it saves hassle on arrival.
Request mattress toppers on the beds. They were so comfortable!
Do not pack beach towels. These are provided and can be changed as often as you need.
Buy your own snorkelling equipment before you go as there are plenty areas to snorkel in. Don't pay the money for sets on resort although I understand you can obtain sets for an hour a day free of charge.
We visited xcaret which was a great day out and recommended.
Take plenty insect repellent and sting relief remedies. Mosquitos are everywhere although were never in our room. We had purchased plug in repellent and brought it with us so not sure if that did the trick. Most of our bites were from excursions.
Overall, I couldn't fault this hotel or its staff and we had a fantastic two weeks here. Looking forward to returning again one day!

Recently went with two other couples to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversaries. Consensus was that we were very happy with our selection, and would like to come again. Priscilla (Guest Relations) did a wonderful job helping schedule our ala carte dinners, and arranging for a special treat for our group on the day we were celebrating our anniversary, and just generally making sure we were taken care of. We were also pleased with the housekeeping of the room (Eva took care of our room), and with the fun towel figures that Eva left for us each night.
Mini-bar was so-so service.
Property was beautiful, well-maintained, and generally enjoyable to be on. We had Golden Club suites - this was a good choice, as it put us closer to the beach, with a separate beach cove, pool, and snack bar area for golden club members.
I'd recommend bringing:
lots of ones and fives to tip with
insect repellent - we used 40% DEET and it did the job
lots of bio degradable sunscreen - you'll need more sunscreen than you think - we're from Arizona and we ran out about 1/2 way through the trip. Make it bio-degradeable if you plan on swimming with turtles or going to the water parks like Xel-Ha. Buying it there is expensive.
Water shoes with thick soles - there is ironstone and coral on parts of the beach - we brough heavy soled water shoes that we used in white water rafting and were happy we had thick soles on - the standard thin soled water shoes might work, but we were happy we brought the thicker ones.
The rest of the list - Baby wipes, aspirin or pain reliever, sunburn aloe gel, anti-itch lotion, Gold Bond body powder, Immodium, and if you can get your doctor to provide it - Azithomycin to recover from Montezuma's revenge. We did not have any issues with the food or water - just a nice precaution. Snorkel gear if you have it and can fit it - you can rent it there but the place you rent it at is on the other side of the resort from where the better snorkeling is.
Food was good, water was not an issue. We brought 16OZ plastic cold drink cups with us that we gave to the bar tenders for our drinks - that worked really well if you want to avoid making multiple trips - they use smaller plastic cups for the drinks.
We did cave swimming at Rio Secreto, and the the Tulum ruins/Akumal Bay Snorkeling excursion and were very happy with both.
We booked our trip, and the excursions, through Apple Vacations - we would definitely use them again - all went very smoothly.

Room Tip: We had golden club suites

We stayed at this resort for 4 nights in June. We were attending a wedding. It is a very large all inclusive resort. The room was comfortable. We had a sitting area and balcony. The toiletries were high quality and plentiful.

The buffets have a lot to choose from but didn't seem to vary much from day to day. We ate at the buffets at the Coba and Talum (part of the resort complex) for some variety. There were nice touches like a bloody mary bar and mimosa's at breakfast. There was fresh salad and fruit available at all meals.

Top shelf liquor is only available at the main inside bar.

Bring mosquito spray (or pay $9.00 for a small can at the hotel) I was eaten alive especially at dinner.

We have stayed at Iberostar's in the past which we liked better.

Great hotel and staff just be prepared to travel a little for the excursions, however well worth it on both counts. Whilst the food is repetitive there is enough variety for for something different every day. The sea at the bottom of the complex is just wonderful and there isn't a great distance between complexes if you want more variety. There is also a train to take you to where you want in the complex and to the other hotels.

For those less able the Coba involves more walking as the train does not go close to the lobby whereas the Bahia it stops at the steps to the lobby where you can relax with a drink (or two!).

We did the Coco Bongo, catamaran, chichen Itza (sorry for misspelling) Contoy Island and dolphins swim, all well worth a visit but be prepared for long days with some of the trips, or nights with regards to Coco Bongo, so ensure there is a rest day after!

Room Tip: Sleep was only average as the beds were a little too hard for comfort although there were little tow...
