I stayed with my family and husband to be (9 of us total) at the GBP Akumal in room 6612 (sea view right on the beach and short walk for anything in the akumal section or catching a tram) may 6th 2012 to may 20th 2012, and had the most amazing 2 weeks of my life, one of the days been my wedding on the 11th on akumal beach, BIG THANKS TO EUGENIA (our wedding co-ordinator who puts a lot of effort in the months leading up with emails keeping you upto date and on our return) and my wedding meal at one of the a la cartes, the Arlequin (loved it that much we went again twice) I dont have a bad word to say about mexico and this resort, its truely amazing, well worth the money, the staff honestly can not do enough for you, so busy and hard working, always polite, check in very fast, and your luggage is bought to your room for you within half an hour tops, rooms are so clean, our maid did a brilliant job throughout our stay, my husband suffered from heat stroke for 2 days and had to stay in the room but our lovely maid blanca still came in quietly and replace towels etc... and made us fantastic towel art throughout our stay, she truely deserved more tips than we could afford, mini fridge always topped up and whilst my husband was ill extra water and crisps given, we really was treated like royalty, I see people have moaned about the staff not understanding much english or having no english tea!!! YOUR IN MEXICO!!! The buffet yes it's repeated most nights however i challenge anyone to eat everything thats on offer in 2 weeks!, so much choice to try breakfast, lunch or tea, staff are very helpful areas always clean and tidy, if somethings run out or low a couple of minutes wait and its replaced, the resort is just beautiful, kept to a clean and high standard, even imputting the GBP sign into the sand of the ash trays around the sites, very attentive to detail, we didnt have a problem with getting a sun bed by any pool unless we didnt go to the pool till late morning like after 10.30am but we would simply go onto the beach where there is some many free loungers, pools are fantastic and so clean you will often see staff in the pool, snorkles on cleaning the bottom and sides, loved the beach, yes some coral or rocks but nothing major, we found akumal beach up by the wooden pier section to be the best part for not so many rocks, beautiful fish (however i didnt wonder too close as im a whimp lol) entertainment in the day by the akumal pool near the snack bar was great, bar staff quick and friendly, so many choices of cocktails, lovely swim up bar in the other akumal pool, but quieter round in this pool area, we never once got stopped by the time share people our whole stay which was the only area i was concerned about reading other reviews, always managed to get on a computer when we needed to in the day in the computer room in the little akumal lobby by the snack bar, The snack bar was brilliant and we had lunch most days here, Anyone getting married i didnt feel any stress what so ever eugenia has everything covered, you simply get yourself ready, she visits about half hour before with your flowers, (just beautiful may i say) one of the golf buggies came and collected me my mum and 2 bridesmaids at about ten to three, as i was getting married at 3pm, photos are taken throughout, I have on dvd eugenia racking the sand before my arrival, so many photos are taken throughout, before walking down, throughout the ceremony and a lot of posed shots after your toast, beautiful setting, the photographer gives you a card to come to the studio another day to pick your photos, meal was amazing and service in the arlequin, as well as our wedding cake, ive never tasted anything like it so light, truely was the most amazing day, we visited the arlequin 3 times and tried something different each time, also this a la carte had air con, we also visited the japense, loved it, didnt get a show table booking due to the amount of us but we could see it from were we where sat, lovely interior and fab staff, also ate at the mexican, again fab, the italian dolce vita twice, loved this too, service was the slowest in the a la carte compaired to others however it was very busy, and the brazilian, this wasnt to our taste but i would still rate it if your a meat lover. the trains where fab at dropping your where ever you wanted to be, never more than a 10 minute wait for one, each lobby has an amazing feature inside. we used the jet skis, an experience i would never try again, well not with my husband driving but well worth the money, we visited playa del carmen twice, and ate in the local bars, was such a great experience, and food was so tasty, we did use a taxi as we wasnt sure about the local buses but on future visits i will use the local buses and save a lot of money, be sure to haggle on taxi prices, swam with dolphins at dolphin discovery, once in a life time experience, expensive but well worth the money to experience and also see my little god daughters face, COCO BONGOS, a must for any age in my opinion, im 27, we payed for the VIP seat which was worth the money to have the view of the stage and table service, bus provided in the price, really was an experience not to be missed, check out one of the channels on the tv in your room to see what to experience, hangover was well worth it, would of gone more than once had i not gone in the 2nd week of our stay. hacienda and market stalls where fab too, wildlife around the resort is amazing to see, like i said not one bad thing to say about this resort or mexico. really can not wait to come back which we hope to do in the future with our soon to be mexico baby :) The only one fault i had was with Thompson in regards to the flight, we all paid a lot of money to upgrade our seats with it been a long haul and special occasion, and we booked 2 window seats and for all our party to be sat together as 2 people had never been abroad so this experience itself we wanted them to enjoy, however the plane was changed we wasnt notifyed and ended up with one window seat and our seats dotted all over luckily some very nice people swapped about so no one was on there own, but this shouldnt of happened, other than the free drinks which you had to ask for all the time, there wasnt a lot of difference between this and standard flights as you can pay on standard £5 on flight to upgrade your tv package so personally i would not recomend spending over £250 a person for the upgrade, save yourself £200 plus and spend the £5 on the tv upgrade and the rest buying your own drinks, oh and to end on a good note cancun airport is lovely so many choices to eat at, make sure you head straight upstairs once checked in as so much more to look around and eat at, WE LOVED MEXICO AND GRAND BAHIA PRINCIPE AKUMAL
blokes 65 to 69 akumal, all beach view and a couple of minutes walk to snack bar and bar, and a trai...
