““"Privilege Club" ruins the experience of a great hotel””
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

I will start that the property is bueatiful, room are wonderful, and the hotel personnel are great (Animation: Pedro is the best and Ever is a very close second!). I enjoyed everything about my stay here except for the darn "Privilege Club" nonsense they allow to occur in this hotel. This is just a huge scam that I cannot believe such a wonderful resort allows them to market this garbage on their premises. We wasted 3 hours of our paid resort time where we spoke to 6 people who asked us the same stupid questions over and over. They try to tell you they are not pressuring you while they actually are. The had this one guy Mr. Bill come sit at our table that looked like a used car salesman. We dismissed him very quickly. The cost started at some crazy 46K number and as we were walking out the door they brought it down to less than 2k which is still a waste of money. Again, the resort is very good and may consider going back I would just have to find a away to ignore the privilege morons they have running around trying to selly you this garbage. I will warn all my friends and associates because you can easily get sucked up in this scam...

I hope they find out they figure out quickly that this is a negative to their brand.

Best Regards....

Room Tip: I would suggest the higher floors because they offer the best views. I would also suggest that you...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

Me and my partner travelled to this hotel with 12 others for the first two weeks in July. We travelled with First Choice/Thomson, Cancun airport is a bit stressful, but what isn't after a 10 hour flight? We travelled in a large group because two members of the group were getting married at this hotel, well was in Tulum in the wedding gazebo! This day was amazing, the bride and groom couldn't of asked for more. The food was amazing, so much choice, even for a fussy eater. Breakfast was perfect, with amazing pastries. Lunch we normally went to the snack bar which provided the usual snacks; chips, burgers, pizzas, salads, ribs etc. if we didn't fancy this we went to the main buffet. On arriving to this hotel, all of the wedding party were upgraded to the golden club, this was a lovely added extra! The A la carte restaurants are amazing... Especially the Mikado (Japanese) and the gourmet restaurant, which are both situated in different hotels. But this was made easy to get to by the little Tuk Tuks. After dinner we would watch the entertainment, which was by far the best I have seen in any hotel abroad. After that we would go to another bar (next door) or we would catch another a Tuk Tuk and go to the Hasienda, this a lovely square with shops and a bar around it, where live music plays from 11pm, with professional dancers offering their help to teach you to dance. The room that we stayed in was huge, and there was never any issues with that, we had a lovely housekeeper called Carlos, he made lots of amazing things with the towels and he always restocked the mini bar! The bed was also one of the comfiest beds that I have slept in whilst being abroad! The staff at all of the hotels work incredibly hard, and I don't think they get enough credit, and we tipped often. The wedding planners from Tulum (Karla and Jasmine) were amazing! They made the wedding day! Their organisation skills are brilliant! Everything was done for the day, we all just had to turn up! So very stress free! I would highly recommend a trip called Captain Hook, booked through First Choice. This was such an amazing night out! It takes a while to get there on the coach, but it is worth it! We also went kayaking during our stay, which is free to use with the hotel, this was fun. You do have to be up early to get sunbeds, but there is always spaces on the beach somewhere with a parasol.,All in all, all 14 of us had such an amazing time, I am defiantly going back in a few years time! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 5901, which was a 5 min walk to the main lobby and was perfect.

Stayed here for two weeks in April. This property is huge, easy to get round though.Rooms were your average Caribbean size and decor, cleaning was fine,no musty smell. Our biggest gripe was the food,it is repetitive beyond belief.I don't think the mexican corner was changed for all of our stay, but on the plus side there is vast amounts of it and there is always something to eat.The beach is ok at Akumal, but the downside is that all the other sections of the hotel head here so it does get busy.Pool bar is always running low on glasses, and the beach bar only has one bartender so be prepared to wait, but yet again no big deal. The dolphin programmes are great, our son was a trainer for a day and loved it.It was about 160 dollars ,but that got him nearly 7 hrs with the dolphins. It was 120 dollars for the swim programme only, that only lasts about an hour,so a no brainier for us.It was our first trip to Mexico and was generally impressed with how easy and safe it seemed to be to go off resort and get the local mini-bus up and down the coast.Xel-ha is a great day out and great value. All in all a good all inclusive for the money.Yes we have been to better in Jamaica and Dom rep but you get what you pay for.One last thing the service in the restaurants is a bit hit and miss, dollars help!

Myself and my partner went to this hotel at the start of august. We both enjoyed our holiday but i wouldnt say it was fantastic. The rooms were ok but there was slight smell of damp on the bedding and fridge didnt really work, the buffet was really nice lots to choose. Didnt think much of the restaurants apart from the brazillian restaurant which was lovely. We went to a large hotel last year, this hotel its really big but kept very well! Our room was close to the family pool which was a little to busy for us so we had to walk a little further to the quiter pool. As you wake in the morning you have to get out of bed (7.00-7.30ish) and get to the pool as fast as you can to put your towel down on sunbed or you havent got one all day. The beach is a little bit easier to get sun bed. We got a taxi the akumal bay which is a brill beach, we had our snorkels so went out and found turtles straight away! You can higher snorkels there. We went on trip snokeling with fatcats it was a great day even though it wasnt a very nice day weather wise, the tour guide terrence was a really nice person and kept spirits up even tho the weather was crap. Also we went to xel-ha which was brill loads to do throughout the day, biking, jumping off cliffs, lazy rivers, snorkeling, ziplines and good food. All in It was a good holiday but i wouldnt like to go back to same hotel.

Me and my partner travelled here in May for two weeks and had one of the best holidays ever (we are both in our early thirties). This was our first time to Mexico and I would really recommend this holiday for both couples and families. You can either have a quiet holiday or join in with the hotels activities/entertainment which was of a good standard. We found the food to be excellent in all restaurants our favourite being don Pablo in Tulum. Our room was very clean, tidy and comfortable and we certainly had no complaints. We have previously travelled to numerous all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, Florida, cruises and European holiday resorts. This is the only hotel that we have ever stayed at that we will be returning to, within two months of getting home we had already booked again for next year. This is a huge resort and there really is something for everyone. The only complaint I could make if I really had to is that you don't get lobster in the restaurants like you do in the Caribbean.

myself my husband and my 24 year old son stayed at the akumal resort from 28th june till 12th july. Iwasn't sure what to expect after reading other reviews, I didn't email the resort before hand to request rooms or meals like everyone else seems to. The resort is huge but we liked this, the trains that run between the 3 are excellent. frequent and the drivers are brilliant. The hotel grounds are clean and well kept there are a lot of coaties and iguanas but they are no trouble and don't bother you if you don't try and feed them. The room we stayed in 6025 was clean good air con the bed was not as hard as some people make out and they had put a mattress topper on for us, we had clean towels every day and the linen was clean as well, my sons room 6011 smelt very musty to me but he didn't notice it so we didn't ask to change it. The fridge was stocked each day with drinks that we used they left us 1 pkt crisps each day and the odd choc bar but as there was so much food elsewhere you dont really need it. The food in the buffet restaurants was plentiful with lots of choice although it did tend to be warm rather than hot, we ate at the akumal several times we went to the Tulum buffet which is bigger but gets quite busy, Iwas not so keen on the coba. I booked 6 a la cartes the 1st day i got there, the brazillian one was nice if you like meat as that is all they keep bringing round. The Dolce vita [italian] was my favourite hot food, Iwas not so keen on the Mediterraneo but that was my choice of food the others liked it.The entertainment that we saw was very good especially the circus show, it occurs in all 3 resorts on different nights so you can catch it at 1 if you miss it at another, but you do have to get there early to get a seat. There are also a couple of live bands playing which were very good but the Tulum got too busy for us you had a job to find a seat and the bar was packed. The beach was nice a bit gritty for me so i wore beach shoes, you could only swim out as far as the buoys or man made rocks as th sea was always rough but the water was always warm and had plenty of fish if you wanted to snorkel. There was only one downside to this hotel and that was the pool beds you had to have your towel on a bed by 7 am or you didn't get one so if you are a late riser and would rather lie by the pool than the beach forget it. Would i go back to this hotel no unless i went with someone who gets up early to save a pool bed.
