“Brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Incredible place to snorkel and see fish, turtles, and even jelly fish! We rented a house for 12 days in Akumal and tried snorkeling in the ocean off of the house. Besides getting a bit seasick from the waves bouncing me up and down, I almost stepped on a stingray that had buried himself in the shallow water. I did see and follow an incredible turtle though. Yal-ku Lagoon was absolutely incredible. The waters are crystal clear and easy to navigate. We brought our own equipment and had the best time. Some people are complaining about the cafe there but if you want to eat, drive into the tiny town of Akumal and there is a hotel/beach bar and cafe that is incredible and less than a few miles down. We are going back to Mexico this June and I'm taking my boyfriend from the all inclusive resort just to see this! Wonderful experience for the family, couples, or friends.

Great snorkeling place.....get there early and rent a palapa. Lots of fish, warm water and a great place to spend three or four hours or the whole day.

“Really Cool Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Yal-ku Lagoon is where some cenotes run into the ocean. The water is usually very clear here, and the combination of the two types of waters creates a really neat effect. This is certainly a great place to visit, but there is NO need for a guide here. The food at the cafe is probably the worst we ate on our trip (absolutely no flavor).

“Relaxing snorkeling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

This is an enclosed bay and you need to pay $10. to enter, but you can stay as long as you want and even reenter. No tides or waves and lots of fish. Great way to spend an hour or two.

“Worth the time even if you have an hour or so”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We were very pleased to snorkel here this past Februrary. The price was only about $15USD each with rental. We went late in the day as the crowds subsided. They even reduced the price for us since we only had about an hour to snorkel. This is a great place to avoid ocean currents while snorkeling as it is a sheltered lagoon. There are plenty of fish to see and interesting rock formations. There are showers available, tables, palapas to rent and a couple of food and trinket vendors nearby. When you are done, I highly suggest dinner and/or a few drinks at La Buena Vida just down the street--well worth the stop. If you have kids, Yal-ku is a great learning place for snorkeling. Look for pictures to abe added soon. Have fun!
