“Nice vacation. Nice resort and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

I went there from june 6 - 13 , 2014 with a group of friends. We had a great time.
Resort : immaculate, nice, set in the jungle.
Room: very clean, bar fully restocked and clean towel every day. Free in room wifi, but slow. It is a bit smaller than AKumal and Coba rooms. Nicer if have some more furniture as a desk, more drawers, long mirror in the room.
Food : very good food, fresh , a lot of variety. The bufffet is amazing. There are a la carte restaurants in Sian Ka'an and other complexes but we find the food in Sian Ka'an buffet better.
Beach: clean private beach with service to your chair. There is a bit of small rocks here and there. Better to have water shoes. Transportation by trolley from the hotel to Sian Ka'an the beach is frequent ( every 5 min ) and the drivers are nice , but if you go go from the hotel to Coba / Akumal beach, it will be long ( 15'- 20 ' waiting time ). More beautiful fishes in Coba beach.
Pool: very clean, nice and quiet among the nature. Amazing !
Entertaiment: live music every night, more shows in Tulum, Akumal and Coba complexes.

Overall, this is a beautiful 5 star resort with great food, great service, great staff . I would go back and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Rooms around building 23-26 are central , more quiet.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

My girlfriend and I stayed for 2 weeks in June/July 2014. We had originally booked to stay at the Akumal hotel, having thought it would not be worth the extra £££ to stay at Sian Kaan, given its further from the beach. Upon arrival however we were offered a free upgrade to stay at Sian Kaan instead - despite suspecting it was down it overbooking at Akumal we decided to go for it given it was the more expensive, adults-only hotel and had a few extra perks, namely:

- Private beach area with waiter service all day
- Premium spirits (Grey Goose, Smirnoff, JD, Jonnie Walker etc. we're all part of the all inclusive drinks menu).
- Free wifi (albeit only a slowed-down version of the paid for connection - would liken it to dial-up!)

After 2 weeks there I can safely say we 100% made the right choice. We tried the food at the buffets in Coba and Akumal and the food at Sian Kaan is ten times better quality. Buffet restaurant was excellent and we also heard very good things about the a la cartes at Sian Kaan but didn't use to them as we saw the menus and couldn't see much we would like. We did try an Italian, the Mexican and Brazilian restaurants down at the main resort and we're unimpressed. Stick to the buffets! There are LOTS of screaming kids around the other hotels, day and night and the time we did spend around the other hotels made us so glad we had taken the upgrade.

Rooms at SK are much nicer - very new, light and well cooled which is a must here. Cleaner was excellent and mini bar was kept well stocked. Only negative was not much storage / hanging space for clothes. We had a basic room but the ones on the ground floor with jacuzzis on the patio looked nice. The grounds of the hotel are exceptionally well kept and you can't go 5 minutes without seeing someone tending to the pool or gardens. At the time of year we were there however, we found the heat and humidity round the SK pools unbearable. The hotel is set further back than the others and you really are in the jungle. We therefore took the shuttle (10 minute trip) down to the private beach area every day and did another round trip to SK for lunch (worth it for the better food).

The private beach was great - you were welcomed each morning with a tray with two face cloths, a mist-spray bottle with cold water in, some nuts and two iced teas. Really nice touch which set SK apart from the other hotels and the rest of the beach. Service at the beach was constant and the staff were great. Take water shoes for the sea as there are a few rocks as you walk out - but don't be put off by comments about the rockiness - once you're out in it the majority of it is white sand underfoot.

We did 4 of the Thomson trips which, having done a bit of research, were more expensive than doing it yourself, but only slightly and worth it for the peace of mind and convenience. We did Chichen Itza, the 'Captain Hook' pirate boat trip in Cancun (evening with meal / drinks etc), Xplor and Swimming with Dolphins. All were excellent and would recommend them to anyone. The reps will tell you (and you will read on here) that the dolphins at the hotel are in cramped conditions and the site used by Thomson / First choice is far more adequate being essentially a lagoon cordoned off from the sea. This is not sales propaganda, it's true. Having seen the dolphins at the hotel they are kept in a swimming pool which is nowhere near bug enough for 5 of them. Worthy of note that whilst they are at the hotel, they are not owned / run by the hotel - it's another company with multiple sites along the coast.

We just took Pesos which was fine - some recommend taking dollars / both but ultimately you are in Mexico so with Pesos you know you can always spend them no matter where you are! We gave a 20 peso tip to pretty much everyone who served us in the restaurant / bar / bell boys etc. which is about £1. You're looking at £5-10 a day for tips which is only £120 or so for a fortnight and is worth it as I'm convinced you get better, more personal service even though you don't have to tip. The staff also were more than deserving of it and you will feel compelled (but not pressured) to tip. As a couple we spent around £1200 which was more than we'd anticipated, but almost entirely spent on trips and photos from them. They are expensive but well worth it.

Staff were one of the best things about this hotel - always happy to help with a big smile on their faces despite often working in stifling heat! I hope this is read by the hotel as I would especially like to mention:

Fausto - worked at the private beach bar for most of our trip. Can't recall everyone's names but he and ALL the bar staff / waitresses down there were excellent. He switched to the bar in the corner near the stage at the lobby on our last night where I thought he was totally wasted, as it was mainly used by the waitresses rather than customers - he should be customer facing at all times as he was great fun with all the guests and spoke good English.

Egladi and Hugo - both worked in the SK buffet and met us every day with a smile and kept our drinks well topped up. They also remembered us personally each day, knowing we both just wanted water at breakfast and that I wanted a cereal spoon!

We also had a full body massage / skin peel at the Spa which cost 95 USD each for 50 minutes. The spa was spotless and despite having our doubts about whether it was worth it, we were glad we did it - really enjoyed it.

Overall I rate the hotel. The grounds were lovely and I'm sure if we'd gone at a time when it was less hot, we'd have spent much more time round the pools. I would rate the hotel as a 4 star as the food, whilst good and always fresh / hot, was not 5 star for me. Same goes for the room which was clean, modern and had everything you need, but was fairly small and basic, not 5 star. I am however not sure whether this is more a reflection of standards in Mexico vs. Europe where 5 star really means something - so I'm not sure whether there is anywhere better than here in the area.

If you don't have kids and are unsure which hotel to stay at out of the 4 - go to this one! You will not regret it and it is well worth the extra. The distance from the beach is a non issue as there are regular shuttles and even if you are at Akumal / Tulum on the beach, unless you pay extra you'll most likely be a long walk from the beach

Room Tip: Rooms at Sian Kaan do NOT come with a view of anything really, there is quite dense foliage everywhe...

I went there with my girlfriend and two of our friend. We had a great time. Good food - the bufffet is simply AMAZING so is their two a la carte restaurants and the service was always on point. The room was always clean, bar fully restocked and clean towel every time we came back from the beach or excursion. We didn't mind the 7min cart ride to the beach, the view on the bridge is nice and there is cart every 5-10mins. We are 21years old so at night we would go out at the Tulum or Coba property because the entertainment in the lobby bar finished early - but the show was still good! Overall, I recommend this property to anyone, beautiful hotel, great food, great servie, nice pool......it is a 5star no doubt!!

My family and I visited this resort on June 1-8, 2014. The resort itself is incredible. It is set in the jungle, so you wake up to the sound of birds every morning, and there are many daily activities throughout the complex. We saw many colorful birds, iguanas, even a snake, and other creatures. The Michael Jackson and Elvis shows were excellent.

The rooms are beautiful and clean - my Lysol wipes did not pick up any grime, amazing! However there is no full-length mirror or dresser, so the design could have been better. We rested our luggage on the coffee table, and strewn an extra bed sheet over the couch so that our clothes can be laid out there.

We did not run into any staff members who were unpleasant or had any issues. The service is unsurpassed.

The food is excellent. Lots of variety and fresh and tasty. I had guacamole every day, and for just about every meal... lol The omelette lady is like Wonder Woman. She is so quick and efficient, and always with a smile. And definitely try Maiko, the Japanese restaurant. They made vegetarian dishes for me and my uncle, and my mom and aunt loved the Sarika duck.

Now, my biggest issue was the beach. There were areas of the Grand Bahia beach that were much nicer, but the area reserved for Sian Kaan guests was not as nice. It was a bit rocky for my taste, and getting a palapa during the day was not easy. Water shoes would also be helpful. The servers were always busy bringing drinks and returning empty glasses, and the nuts are also nice (our area was the only bar that had nuts, I believe). My suggestion to management would be to reserve the prime area of the beach for guests of the luxury resort. It makes sense in my head anyway ;)

The trolleys are very efficient, and the drivers are very friendly. There was one time when we had to wait about 40 minutes to return to resort from the beach, but after making customer service aware of the issue, they were running extremely well afterwards.

We did some excursions including visiting Chichen Iza (Mayan ruins), a cenote (a sinkhole that you can swim in; we visited one that was underground), snorkelling trip in Tulum (you get an awesome view of the ruins from the water) and Playa Carmen.

Overall, it's an excellent resort. If you're a pool person, it's perfect! The relaxation, service, and cleanliness are second to none.

A good a varied selection of food and drink across the hotel.

Excellent spa facilities and a fantastic challenging golf course( take extra balls)

Room Tip: The penthouse was great but not enough privacy. Room 80423/24/22/21 all very central to restaurants...
