We recently stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe Sian Ka´an from February 26 until March 2nd, 2013.
This was our third time in the Mayan Riviera and our second time staying at the Gran Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an. This hotel offers outstanding customer service, amazing food, premium liquors, and an overall great experience.
After we booked our trip, I emailed the hotel and Vanessa the guest service manager replied and helped me with the pre-booking of all our ala carte restaurants reservations. This was greatly appreciated and something more to look forward to upon our arrival. Great costumer service!
Upon arrival we were greeted by Eric, the captain of the bell desk, he remembered us from our previous visit and greeted us with a smile and a cocktail. He is extremely personable and helpful, speaks great English and is an asset to the hotel.
We were also celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday, so I also contacted Brisa, the hotels PR rep prior to our trip, and she arranged for a bottle of Tequila to be delivered to our room which was a very nice touch and made this vacation feel more personable. I’m thankful she took the time and went out of her way to make us both happy during our stay. In addition to offering us excellent costumer service skills, she is very knowledgeable and helped us with information we needed for Tulum.
We had room 40512, the building closest to the lobby. We liked the room but found that there isn’t enough storage space for clothe and the closet could use extra hangers. The last time we stayed at the Sian Ka’an we were in building 16, closer to the entertainment pool. We preferred that room, it seemed to be a bit more modern. However, our maid, Wendy (40512) was amazing. She changed our pillow cases and bedding when we asked, and provided us with extra towels. Every day when we returned to a clean room from the beach we were greeted by one of Wendy’s towel animals. We left her $5 -$10 daily.
The trolley to the beach from the Sian Ka'an is only a few minutes long. We never found ourselves waiting long either. Once on the beach at times we needed to drag chairs from the top (near the bar area) down to the beach only a few meters. The chairs are light and easy to move. Some people like to reserve very early in the morning there seating and place towels on chairs but we never felt the need to do this, we never had any problems finding chairs. The chairs that are reserved for the Sian Ka’an guests are more comfortable than the ones the other resorts use. Also there is a beach bar that caters exclusively to Sian Ka’an guests. You can go to the bar or there are a few servers taking drink orders from guests’ right on the beach. We received great service from Leydi, she was very friendly, efficient and had a great memory for the drinks we liked. Because she was so quick we never really had to go to the beach bar which at some moments during the day could have small to line ups.
Every morning we would eat at the main buffet located in the Sian Ka'an, the food selection was very excellent lots of variety and fresh. The staff was very attentive and pays close attention to detail by replenishing empty platters and cleaning over all areas. The fresh omelet station was usually busy, but very much worth the wait. When we would arrive for breakfast Ana the hostess would welcome us at the door with a smile and always say “good morning”. We would always sit in Miriam’s section. We only had to give her our beverage orders the first day, every day after that when we would return to our table with our food, our champagne and cappuccino would be waiting for us. If you can try and sit in her section, she was very friendly and attentive. She always made our mornings a better one. Lunch we normally went to the Tulum resort, it was about a 10 minute walk from the beach. There is a wide variety to choose from, but we both found that the food quality was better at the Sian Ka’an buffet. But again the service was most excellent, Antonio, our server always took great care of us, with his attention to detail, speedy and efficient work ethic.
Before and after dinner would spend our time relaxing with a few drinks at the lobby bar. The bar is very nice, with an open modern concept. Zeidy and Ana work very hard and as fast as possible always with a smile. They where both always very pleasant, professional and efficient. Our main complaint about the resort at night is the music they play in the lobby bar. Normally it’s very low and resembles elevator music. After dinner some nights they have a live “band” which consisted of a guitar, somebody on vocals and the rest was off a cd. The music they played was the same night to night and is defiantly targeted at an older crowd. One night they had a DJ come in and played more up-beat music which had the whole patio area up and dancing.
Edwardo, Alex, Edna, and the rest of the entertainment team did an amazing job setting up different games every day and recruiting people to play them, always with a smile on their face. I really enjoyed polo at 3pm in the main pool of the Sian Ka’an.
This was our second trip to the Sian Ka’an, and we can’t wait to go back. This resort does all the small things right that makes for a great vacation.
Thanks to all the staff
