“Love the margaritas!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

I've been to this restaurant a number of times. The food is good, we usually order the fish tacos. The reason to go is for the margaritas!!! Order a pitcher of margaritas and spend the afternoon enjoying the ambiance!

“Kitchen closes at 9pm”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Our problem here was that we arrived at 8:45 for dinner and the waiter was quick to warn us that we had to order immediately since the kitchen would close at 9. The whole experience was rushed and before 10pm we were asked to eave as they would turn out the lights on the terrace we were on... Food was OK.
This might be a better place if you arrive at 7pm, but as we were shooed out we noticed that two other places next door were still busy with people taking their time for leisurely dinners.
We went to these other places on the subsequent evenings of our vacation and indeed noticed that every night La Cueva shut down completely at 10pm, while all others at Akumal remain open until 11 or midnight on weekends.

“Great food and even better drinks!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

The food, drinks, and service is always hands down the best in town.....in my opinion. I ordered the fish brochettes and hubby ordered the steak and shrimp brochettes. We also each had a margarita (which are very strong). When our food arrived the steak was missing from hubby's plate. The waiter was very apologetic and admitted he ordered it wrong in the kitchen. Not a problem. He asked how he could make it up to us. We said that we would like to order a pitcher of margaritas and we joked that to make it up to us he could make it extra strong. Well that's exactly what he did. Lets just say that with the happy hour drinks at another establishment, the first order of margs, and the pitcher......the walk home was very fuzzy. Overall the food was outstanding and apparently so were the drinks. I also really like the atmosphere of this place. It's very dimly lit and the tables are made from large segments of huge tree trunks. It's really kind of neat.
