“Fantastic Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2007

It's an amazing and beautiful place with an equally special staff of people. The only downers in our eyes were that taking off on little ventures to other towns or to eat your meals somewhere else other than the hotel is not easy. The issue is both distance as the hotel and the community of Punta Mita is purposely remote and the taxi's are expensive and for us the hotel shuttle is not ideal and isn't free. There are 3 restaurants at the hotel but nothing is cheap however it's all great food. The bigger deal to us however was that we love authentic mexican food so would have really enjoyed a great local taco stand or cantina but since we didn't think it was worth the combined cost of travel we just opted to hang tight at the hotel. We also visited during the low season so there was no guarantee that restaurants or shops would be open in the neighboring towns so we opted not to chance it and were otherwise content after 8 nights/9 days. The net/net is that it's worth the $ but be ready to spend.

  • Liked — the staff, the pool, the beach
  • Disliked — distance from other towns for alternative restaurants, sites to tour

Having stayed at other Four Seasons Hotels, we were accustomed to the high level of customer service that Four Seasons are known for providing. However, the service at the Punta Mita Four Seasons hotel exceeded all of our expectations!! Every single employee we encountered seemed sincere & genuinely concerned about making our stay as pleasant as possible. They were very attentive, but not obsequious. This review is lengthy, but it’s hard not to rave about this hotel.
Our room in the Iguana building was spacious & beautiful. We were in a run of the house ocean view room (#1214), and our view was nice, but not the best ocean view. Rooms are equipped with a dehumidifier, which fills up with water throughout the day. This definitely helps to prevent mold & mildew in the rooms. The housekeeping staff empties them on a daily basis, but if it shuts off during the night, more than likely it is full, and needs to be emptied - a very easy process that anyone can do. Some of the other people in our group were in the 800 & 900 rooms, and their views were nicer than ours. However, since we had lots of activities planned during our stay, it didn’t make sense to switch to a room with a better view. Plus our room was very close to the spa, adult pool & lazy river pool. The only problem we had with our room was the lock on the door. Our keys wouldn’t work one day, and we had to walk all the way back to the lobby to get new ones (thinking that we had somehow demagnetized them). Unfortunately, the new keys didn’t work either, but luckily we were able to call the front office from a neighbor’s room, and they immediately came down and fixed the problem with the lock.
We enjoyed swimming in all the pools, though the water temperature was rather warm (I’m guessing the water temperature was about 87 degrees), and thus not real refreshing when the air temperature was around 93 with very high humidity. Evidently, the pools are not heated, so you just have to get accustomed to the warm water. The pool and beach staff were very accommodating bringing various types of refreshments & amenities throughout the day. The hotel was only about ½ full during our stay (September 23-September 27), and at times it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Inasmuch as we were staying at this hotel on a business incentive trip, I can’t comment too much on the prices. However, I did notice the boutique stores were EXTREMELY expensive, and even though the hotel gives you a $25 gift certificate, you probably won’t find anything under $100.
The meals we had at the hotel were all excellent. We had a banquet dinner on the beach the first night, unfortunately, there was a massive downpour shortly before our dinner, and so they had to move everything into one of the banquet rooms. I was amazed at how quickly, they were able to get everything set-up for us inside. One of our business associates was a picky eater, and didn’t like any of the delicious banquet items, so the staff insisted on fixing him a special plate with non-spicy food. Talk about being accommodating!!!
The Punta Mita massage was wonderful...though I think it is the first time I’ve ever heard of incorporating tequila into a massage. The therapists vary in their techniques, but if you convey to them how much pressure you like, they will go out of their way to make sure you are pleased.
The golf course was beautiful, especially the 3rd & 18th hole. The greens were tricky, and I did lose a few golf balls. However, once again, the staff was exceptional. They were constantly coming around on their golf cart offering beverages & cool towels. The drainage system on the golf course worked very well considering the massive downpour shortly before our tee time. This golf course is very generous with the placement of the ladies tees...usually about 80 to 100 yards in front of the men’s tees. Perfect for a golf like me!!!
A group of us went on a fabulous outdoor eco-adventure through Vallarta Adventures. If you like adventure, then be sure to contact Vallarta Adventures for an experience of a lifetime!! This special zipline eco-adventure was spectacular! It incorporated various modes of transportation – zodiac raft, unimog 4-wheel drive vehicle, mules & ziplines. Talk about fun!!!
We would love to come back to the Four Seasons Punta Mita, as this was one of our most memorable trips!!

This is the definition of rest and relaxation. We spent 4 days here - without the kids - for our 10-year wedding anniversary and got exactly what we were looking for and needed. The resort was stunning and the service was exceptional. I don't generally prioritize service over other aspects of a hotel stay but I can't help remarking on how the staff were always friendly and available. Sitting by the pool, we were constantly brought free cups of Haagen-Dazs ice cream, shot glasses of strawberry margarita foam and ice water. This is also the rare facility that can service the needs of both couples on a romantic trip as well as families with young children. I would definitely return here with or without my kids. One note of caution: the food prices are outrageous and the resort is remote so other restaurants are not an easy option.

Stayed here a few years ago with my family. There is so much stuff to do and the resort is beautiful. We only left the resort once to go see Mexico City. We did the AV tours on the beach which was so much fun. The pool is beautiful and everything else!

I stayed at the Four Seasons for 5 nights in September. It was exactly what I needed, which was some rest and relaxation. The service was excellent and the room was in great condition. The food was either hit or miss and very expensive, but the prices weren't above what I was expecting, which was moderate to high for a NYC restaurant. The Bahio Grill is the best restaurant there. The pools were very nice but the beach is just ok. If you're looking for Caribbean type white sandy beaches, this isn't it. But the pools and the view were perfect.

I'd say my best experience at the hotel is sitting by the adult pool being pampered with free frozen fruit and ice cream. The soothing music and comfortable pillows will put you at ease.

This is the way a vacation should be! Amazing. The Four Season's has yet to fail in the service category.

My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights after a two nights in Puerta Vallarta. We felt visiting the city for a day or two was plenty then secluded ourselves in Punta Mita for the remainder of the week. Plenty of activities are offered by the hotel so we didn't feel the need to leave. A small hike to the top of a hill across the street from the hotel provides and excellent vantage point of the surrounding area. The pool side palapa bar has the best ceviche and the 3pm complimentary ice cream cart that visits the pool is a nice touch. The spa is pretty but I did not think the quality of the mssage was anything to return for.

The town of Sayulia is a short drive and very quaint should you feel the need to leave the comfy embrace of the Four Seasons compound.

Enjoy your trip if you are planning one to Punta Mita ~ I am jealous.

We were there for our honeymoon, we are a couple in our early 30´s. Since we stepped down the car everything was perfect. We were greeted by our names and after checking in we were given a tour of the property and then to our room. We booked a Garden View and were upgraded to an Ocean View. The room was perfect size and from the terrace you could see the ocean.
We ate evey meal at the FS, yes it wasn´t cheap but we were on vacation and don´t regret it. My favorite restaurant was Aramara (chinese/latino) and my husband´s was Bahia (meat/seafood on the grill).
It was low season and very few kids around. We liked the Tamai Pool (adults only) better, there is no ocean view in this pool but service was even better here than at Nuna Pool. We had a cabana there for a day, at $175 you can use it from 8 am until 8 pm, so it wasn´t that bad for 12 hours (we were only there from 10 until 6). Lots of amenities at the pool, fruit, ice cream, juices, gatorade, etc.
Everything was perfect at the beach also, we could relax in the hammocks along Manzanilla´s beach (there are no hammocks on Las Cuevas beach).
Hope to go back next year for our anniversary.
Will gladly answer any questions.
