“Good food friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

We originally walked in when we noticed the nice outdoor garden and mike set up for a guitarist. We started off with a few drinks. On Fridays most domestic beers are 2 for 1 and my wife actually enjoyed the 2 for 1 wine better than their not 2 for 1 Cabernet Sauvigon..When the guests around us started eating the food smelled and looked so good we decided to order dinner. We had the Vampire Shrimp and Bolognese Lasgna. .We were not disappointed. It was great. We finished off with some taramazu that we shared and some coffees. Not to mention a talented young guitarist that played 70's folky tunes for almost 90 minutes straight. The cost was very very reasonable for 2 premium beer (they don't count for 2 for 1) a glass of Cab Sauv a 2 for 1 beer coronas and the 2 for 1 wine with tip was about 450 pesos approximately.

“Great place to eat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Everything about this restaurant is great. Beautiful garden seating, great food and reasonable prices , mostly around 100pesos for dinner. Salads are big enough to share.

“Best of the Best”

The food and service was most excellent. The staff treated us like family. They went out of their way to make us feel at home.

“Food is good, but beware "bait and switch"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

I don't enjoy giving a restaurant a poor review, especially when the food is pretty good. But our experience at Los Telares a few days ago left a decidedly bad taste in the mouths of all three of us that had lunch there. We went on a Wednesday because they advertise special discounted dishes as well as glasses of house wine two for the price of one. Margaritas were OK and Mrs. OJ would have been happy to continue with that, but since I wanted to try the house wine (40 pesos for a glass) and the second one was free, she also ordered a glass to go with her breaded shrimp entree (130 pesos). I had seen good reports about the coconut shrimp (135 pesos) so that was my choice. BIL stayed with tequila shots, and after asking our waiter to explain the half dozen or so "specials" (I almost went for the lasagna - 65 pesos instead of the usual 95), he said I'll have the ribeye steak special with baked potato (90 pesos instead of the regular 135 pesos). His plate had fries instead of the baked potato when it arrived, but he let it go rather than make a fuss then. We also ordered the mango pie for dessert. That was not good -- a cardboardy crust containing a grainy cheesecake topped with a mango syrup. Not even close to the incredible pie we'd enjoyed a couple days earlier with big slices of fresh mango on a thin layer of cream cheese in a yummy homemade graham cracker crust.
When we got our bill, we were amazed to find we were charged for 2 glasses of wine and full price for the ribeye. The waiter was adamant that the bill was correct, so we asked for the manager. No help there -- he said we were charged for 2 wines because they were "double shots" (when a deal says 2 for the price of 1, we expect to get 2 regular drinks for the cost of 1). As for the ribeye, the manager said BIL was served the regular ribeye, which was larger, than the smaller "special" ribeye. None of that was explained when we asked about the specials. If the "specials" are merely smaller versions of the regular menu items, the customer deserves to be told that at the start. To bring you into the restaurant with advertised "specials" that really aren't is disengenuous at best and downright misleading.
As for comparison with Tango, not even close. Our bill was within 40 pesos of what we paid at Tango previously for a much more extensive and tastier dinner (including wine and drinks). Much better service and attention to detail as well. Unfortunately, the manager's attitude toward our questioning of the "bait and switch specials and the normally minimal snafu's (fries instead of baked potato and poor dessert) totally ruined what could have been a pleasant outing. We certainly will not return to Los Telares -- especially with so many good choices available in the Lakeside area that don't try to take advantage of their customers.

“consistently good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

For some reason they do not have the business of the Ajijic Tango but equally good food and actually a more friendly staff. Ask for something special and they will do it, ask for the same at Ajijic Tango and you get a DAAAAA response,
