“Convenient "one stop shop" for lodging, restaurant and tours”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

The room was fine, comfortable, and everything worked. After a very long drive from Ensenada it was nice to have motel and restaurant co-located and convenient. We left a jacket in the room when we left, which they had set aside and waiting for us when we returned 4 days later; nice touch, and consistent with their attentive service.

Stayed in one of the bungalows (room #1) and it was nice. Double bed was well made & clean, clean room, large bottled water in room, hot water, cable TV with a few English channels. LCD TV was small, but OK. Be prepared to provide $100 pesos for TV remote deposit at check in. you can hear traffic from the street but it was not too bad during the days I was there. Someone at the front desk 24 hours.

Staff super friendly, a huge plus. Restaurant was fail, had sea bass (too dry). Others in my party had fresh shrimp that got good reviews. Expect to pay about $10-$12 for dinner. Try the fish and shrimp tacos from the white food truck about 1/2 mile west - delicious.

Room Tip: Get a bungalow rooms 1 - 5. Our party stayed here, no complaints. Get's you a bit further away f...

Getting to the point quick. This is good basic lodging. It is clean, affordable, and has hot water. Lodging in Baja can sometimes be inconsistent. Malarrimo is very consistent. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The attached restaurant is convenient and you can also book whale watching tours from the grounds of the motel. Don't stay here if you are seeking an elegant 4 poster bed experience. Stay here for good, clean, value oriented rooms that will NOT leave you with a 'I need to wash' experience. p.s. the pillows are a little hard. so if you are a soft pillow person bring your own.

We were exhausted after our long drive and just made it into Guerrero Negro after dark.. We went to Caracoles which we read about on Trip advisor and we were told there was only room left and it was $850 pesos... Which was more than we wanted to spend... We decided to check out this cowboy hotel which was the first one we saw but for some reason I have it in my head not to ever pick the first of anything.. Past experience I guess.. So we went back just to check it out.. The owner was super friendly, gave us a choice of 2 rooms .. had well lit secure parking, nice large clean rooms.. Basic but had everything you need.. Good restaurant for dinner there. Internet was free and even supplied water, soap, shampoo etc... Bed was the most comfortable we had slept so far on the trip.. And way less than even a motel 6 in price... We paid $400 pesos and it was a great welcome to the Baja.. Definately would go again.

There is a motel missing from the review list for Guerrero Negro and that motel is the Cowboy Motel which as you come in to town from Highway 1 is 1 block on the left side of the street before Malarrimo. This is the first time we have stayed at the Cowboy. Before we either stayed at Malarrimo or Corocalas. The Cowboy is newer than the other two. The rooms at the Cowboy are twice the size of the rooms at Malarrimo or Corocalas. The rooms are clean, furnished nicely and have comfortable beds with no bugs. We stayed in a lower room farthest from the office and the password protected wi-fi worked great. There is also a phone in the room with satellite T.V. The shower is big with plenty of hot water. There is a restaurant at the Cowboy which was not open during our visit. Malarrimo has always had the best food in Guerrero Negro and it is a 5 minute walk from the Cowboy. The Cowboy costs the same as the Malarrimo or Coocalas. This will be our lodging of choice when we visit Guerrero Negro in the future.

Room Tip: They are all good. Good wi-fi connection from every room.

The motel is very nice with plants everywhere and a pleasant little maze of rooms with walkways in between. Not extremely fancy but quite nice. The $29 amount mentioned in the Trip Advisor entry is probably a bit low, especially during the whale season. There are several other motels in the vicinity and some a probably somewhat less expensive. I'd guess that, outside of whale season, rooms are plentiful. Malarrimo is probably the nicest of the motels.

Guerrero Negro is an incredibly dry place where not much grows. The whole town seems like it's an extension of a sand dune which I found to be interesting and not unpleasant. By the way, if you're traveling by bus, the motel is a fairly short walk from the station. Also worth knowing: There's a government office (Migracion) in Guerrero Negro in case you forgot your tourist permit.

As mentioned by another reviewer, one of the staff members at the motel was a bit less than welcoming. The restaurant staff, on the other hand, were great and the fish dish I had was wonderful.

We have always stayed here when driving the baja, but the last stay will be the last! We will try Caracol next time. that said we will still eat at the restaurant as its fantastic and so are the staff.
Our reception was not good: the guy had a very odd attitude bordering on insolent.
We know not to expect super luxury on these baja drives, but Malarrimo has just deteriorated too much. the rooms are run down, shabby sad.
