“We enjoyed our stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Took the wife to this hotel for our 2nd anniversary. I had been in Buena Vista in the early eighties and remembered this hotel. As so many have noted, it is showing it's age but then any deficits that may jump out at you are more than offset by the atmosphere, the friendly staff, and the quietness that one gets being away from the hustle and bustle of a locale such as Cabo San Lucas.
We took a day snorkeling trip to Cabo Pulmo Reserve via the hotels shuttle taxi. Max stayed at the destination while we took one of the tours offered at the reserve. Be sure you understand the limitations at the reserve, ie. required to wear a buoyancy vest even when in the water, which precludes you from diving under the surface when snorkeling. And make certain you get all the associated costs explained up front so you will not have the surprises we encountered. Otherwise the reserve is just as Cousteau said, the "World's Aquarium".

We are already planning another trip to this hotel, this time will take friends. It says a lot that we are not at all anxious about introducing another couple to the great hospitality and the ambience of the Buena Vista Beach Resort Hotel. We are certain they will enjoy their stay as much as we did. Muchas Gracias to the Valdez family and their sidekick "Fredrica" the pooch.

Once again traveling with my brother to fish the Sea of Cortez. We chose Buena Vista as our
base of operations, what a choice it was! The place is amazing!! The grounds and pool, rooms
etc. were great! The food was excellent! We had good fishing, in spite of the storm that hit in
Acapulco. Our thoughts and our prayers and blessings go out to them there. But the shining stars
of Buena Vista, are the people!!! The Valdez family has surrounded themselves with wonderful
people. Axel, Filepe, and Aimee were outstanding!! I am disabled with mobility issues, Felipe
came up with an ingenious plan to assist me to and from the boat each day---"Amazing!" My
brother and I were there for the fishing, and found a lot more, we had a "Ball!"

Room Tip: We chose a garden view room close to boat ramp, and it was nice. If I were to go again, I would cho...

Our local scuba club visited this resort at the end of August. The weather was beautiful! This family-owned resort caters primarily to fishing and diving clientele. Their boats leave right from a floating dock on their beautiful beach. The resort is located about miles north of Los Cabos airport. The rooms are clean and very comfortable, but this is not a modern luxury hotel. It is a bit old fashioned. The bathrooms are small but functional. The air conditioning is super! The large, beautifully landscaped grounds are a tropical paradise, due to two hot springs that flow into the Sea of Cortez at the site, and the huge hot tub is filled with these mineral waters. The employees are friendly and the service is great (not fast - but excellent). They have a lovely beach front restaurant with an superb chef. Don't pass up the homemade soups and the ceviche! (If you want fast food, bright lights, nightclubs and a choice of restaurants and clubs, this resort isn't for you.) I don't dive or fish (the fishing here is fantastic! ) but I enjoyed relaxing around the large beautiful pool with the swim-up bar. Also for a reasonable price, the resort will provide you with a van chauffeured by a knowledgable English speaking guide, who will take you to view the surrounding countryside (mountains, waterfall, wildlife preserves)and tiny provincial villages. Loved the Old-Mexico ambience!

On a recent stay at Hotel Buena Vista I was impressed with the hotel's continued dedication to make improvements. I've had the opportunity to stay here a number of times and in the past what's kept me coming back is the hospitality put forth by the Valdez family as well as the dedicated staff, there's never a new face at this hotel I know two gentleman who've worked here for over 30 years. Hotel Buena Vista is the essence of what the East Cape is. A mecca of fishing, relaxation, great food and a family attitude. Why the rooms and some of the grounds are a bit worn it's all overshadowed by the incredible attitude and warm hospitality you get from the Valdez boys and all of the staff. A truly one of a kind of experience.

Room Tip: I like the rooms that are close to the restaraunt and bar, it's a good place to people watch. F...

First, this is a fishing hotel, period. Second, not much to do other than fish here. Third, probably above a 3 star rating, more like a 4, but I just couldn't give it 4.
The service at the front desk is friendly, but they don't speak english which makes it a little hard to get what you want. For example I wanted to rent ATV's but the nice lady up there couldn't really help me. When I wanted my bill explained language was also an issue.
The service at the restaurants is so so so slow. There are two servers and I think only one cook. We waited over an hour for lunch 2 of our 5 days. The other days we were fishing. Dinner was no better, just takes forever. And again the language thing factors in, we got the wrong stuff, or just didn't get stuff, that we ordered. We had an inclusive package which included tipping, but one waiter just hovered over us after our meal waiting and waiting for his tip, it was uncomfortable, especially with how slow he'd been.
There is no cold water anywhere on this property. The pool is as warm as a hot tub, which is nice, but also not very nice when all you want is a refreshing dip. The ocean is cooler, but sometimes i just wanted a quick dip. No cold water in the showers either, just warm and super hot.
The rooms are nice. Our room was clean. The food was good enough. We had our tuna served to us for 3 meals and they did a great job.
I think as long as you understand that this place is kind of run down, tile missing from the pool, the bridge over it closed for safety, and that it's just kind of a B level type place, well then you'll enjoy it. Or if you're there to fish, you'll enjoy it. But don't take your wife here for a romantic getaway, she'll be pissed for sure.

Room Tip: Just get something near the pool if you can.

I had no idea what to expect coming on this fishing trip. The hotel was amazing. They say on their website that you leave part of their family and that is SO TRUE! This was one of the best trips I have been on in my life! The hotel is slightly dated but comfortable. I have traveled all over the world and this to me is a MUST RETURN TRIP!

Thanks everyone for your hospitality.

Again we return to Hotel Buena Vista... We are met with all the things we expect and have grown to love... great hospitality...warm service staff... all the amenities and comforts we need to settle in. There is great consistency in all the things that make this place great to return to year after year...and when you meet folks at the pool or the bar area, you find they've returned for 10 to 20 years...brought generations of family. There is a reason for that.
What is unexpected and we've delighted in during this stay is that a new chef has brought a new fresh flair to the menu. No complaints regarding the past chef and food. It has always been great. However, we've found the food on this visit to be lighter in preparation, and proportions...which is great when ordering appetizer, salad or soup, then entrée and dessert. We are satisfied without being uncomfortable.
Kudos Buena Vista for trying something new!

Room Tip: All rooms are exactly the same. The Premier rooms are just closer to the beach and pool area. All...
