“reliably great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

I have been staying for my biannual visits for many years. This time they had these new room keys that are magic, no trying to figure what side to insert into machine, just tap the card and the door unlocks - magic. Love the Kuerig coffee machine, no waste and tasty coffee. The rooms are clean the beds are wonderful, lots of pillows. The room attendants do a fantastic job of cleaning the rooms. They must be treated properly by the company. Love their breakfast, the the kitchen is clean and lots of variety in fresh fruit, breads and the best boiled eggs. The desk staff are always very knowledgeable and helpful. There was only one disappointment last year, they were full up and i could not stay here.

When I travel the one thing I like to do is stay in a clean place. The bathrooms were so clean and the towels were white and big and fluffy! And there were 2 for each of us! The bed was very comfortable and the sheets didn't smell hospitally like some places...our sheets had a fresh smell to them. We had a little Keurig in our room so we could have a cup of coffee in the morning while getting ready and there was a mini fridge which was perfect to place our fruit and milk in. Another factor to this motel is that it served a continential breakfast! There was fruit and cereal ( hot and cold), waffles and toast and coffee ! Need I say more? This place is perfect for families, couples ,seniors and the price on line is great! I must add that there was fresh popcorn popped in the lobby when we arrived so we grabbed a bag. LOved it!

Room Tip: we stayed in the room right beside the entrance for the breakfast. So I didnt have to walk a long wa...

Quite a pleasant surprise. The motel is an older property (I'm guessing perhaps 30 to 40 years old) that has been upgraded with the addition of a large, newly built, central common area at the front.

The rooms themselves are typical "roadside motel" - you park in front of your room, and the room is not very fancy or very large, but it is very well appointed. Large flat panel TV, a big work desk with surprisingly speedy internet (heck, faster than some Four Seasons hotels) and half a dozen electrical outlets for the computer, a Keurig coffee machine with complimentary capsules, plug-ins for the car... pretty much everything anyone could want. The hotel even offers smoking rooms.

So, don't let the appearance deceive you, it looks pretty bland from the outside, but all in all, it is much better than average for a highway motel.

I would have gave this a five star rating except for 1 reason:

The room temp was set at 27 so it was very hot in the room and when we went in the washroom I could smell pee. Made me think somebody before us must of missed the and the floor had not been mopped up. Once the room cooled off the smell went away.

The great things about our stay:

1) Jo, at the front desk was so friendly and welcoming!
2) The little freebies, 4 bottles of water, cookies, doggie treats and poop bags for our Minnie weenies, my kids thought that was awesome!
3) Great location and view of the river
4) Quiet, comfortable sleep
5) fantastic continental breakfast with a variety to choose from

The short of it is I would stay again!

We stayed at the Best Canadian Motor Inn, North Battleford, Saskatchewan the night of September 11, 2013. It was a bit difficult to locate. It is behind the Humpty Dumpty Restaurant. The entrance way was terrible, because of construction on the road.
The lobby was clean with a large breakfast area. Breakfast was good. Waffles, boiled eggs, and the usual condiments. They even have a patio where one can have breakfast.
The room (113) itself wasn’t large, the bed a bit lumpy, but we did get a good rest. The AC was quiet. The sink is separate from the bathroom, which was nice. The tub was new-looking and the shower worked great. The WIFI worked. We didn’t need a password.
Even though this hotel is located near the highway, it is a very quiet place and we slept well. We would stay there again.

We thank you for your comments, these are greatly received as this gives us opportunities for continuous improvements,we have been working with the city for the last 3 months to improve the access to the motel, but like most city projects its all about budgets, they will however do everything they can to make it more accessible.Once again thank you and we hope to see you again sometime.

Traveled from Alberta to Newfoundland (and back again).... Traveled with our 50lb Siberian Husky and Cat. I recommend this hotel only if you are in a pinch, Thought it would be a nice place but it wasnt, its like a ran down highway motel, but hotel prices! only thing nice is the lobby, I was actually scared to be there, didnt feel like a safe area, we were very tempted to leave but after driving 12 hours, we decided to stay for the night.. I have seen pictures of other Best Can Inn's and this one defiantly don't seem to be up to standards, if they have any! the front desk lady's were in the normal clothes and werent very personable at all, seems like this hotel is to trying suck up because they know they hotel is in such disrepair with a Keurig in every room and giving free bottles of water lol

THE GOOD (I guess):
- Pet Friendly, BUT THERE ARE MANY SIGNS TELLING YOU TO KEEP YOUR DOGS OFF THE GRASS, CRAZY!
- Walk Outs (motel layout)
- Coffee Maker in room, No tea, just coffee (Keurig) But the inside was very dirty, I didnt use it
- Very close to the highway
- Breakfast Included ( muffins, toast, waffle machine, bagles, coffee, tea, juices)
- Mini Fridge and Microwaves
THE BAD:
- They put a $250 hold on my card, even asked if I could pay when I checked-in but they said no
- Room was extremly small
- Room didnt smell very good
- The little basket with the sugar, creamer and stir sticks was very dusty (stir sticks werent in a package)
- The facets could use fixing/upgrading and cleaning
- No Dead Bolt On the door and the regular door look didnt work very good, had to slam the door shut to lock it
- No Laundry Facility

It is overpriced. The places where we stayed in Medicine Hat, Moose Jaw and Winnipeg were about the same price but much nicer. This is a very old motel with a new office building added to it. The door was very difficult to close and open, the woodwork was very worn, the concrete step outside is crumbling, etc. The room was quite small. Also, it is very difficult to access from Hwy 16. The address for BCI of 971 Highway #16 makes you believe that you can turn in from the highway. In actual fact, you need to turn off Hwy 16 before their property, using the same exit as for Tropical Inns. You then take a poorly marked road to BCI. We went a long way on Highway 16 before we could get turned around. When the Inn sent us e-mail confirmation of our reservation, they could have given directions, but didn't. The front desk was cold and unapologetic.
