I'll admit my expectations were low after reading some of the reviews and I was very pleasantly surprised. We arrived at dinner time Friday night and I expected both check in and getting help with our luggage to be difficult. Check in was quick and easy, I was thrown for just a moment because I was quoted a price in U.S. Dollars and the bill which was in CAN dollars was more, but it actually was the agreed to price. There was someone to help us with bags, but we did it ourselves because we read reviews that said they couldn't get help. There are probably only 2 bell hops, so if a lot of people came at once, you would have to wait. Everyone at check in was on the ball and focused on the customers. I didn't think we would be able to get into the dining room without an advance reservation, but it was no problem. I would recommend a reservation b/c they probably book up when they are having a wedding party stay there.
The food was to die for. We ordered from the "Chef's Menu" which was much more reasonably priced than the A la Carte Menu. There was a good selection and the price range was $27 -$36 CAN for a 3 course meal that was to die for. The service was excellent and we followed the recommendation of the wait staff who was right on target. We ordered the red wine recommended by the Chef which was $66 CAN, this was the one thing that did seem a bit pricey, but it was very good.
We had a "Front -side" suite. We overlooked the parking lot and the highway is nearby, but with the fan on you don't hear the highway and the truth is we paid for the cheapest room in the place, so I can't complain about that. It may be well worth it to pay the higher price for the Lake side, but for us we preferred the lower price to the view. The room was GORGEOUS. Very French in decor. The living room part was on the small side but had a sofa that pulled out to a full size bed and my 86 year old mother reported it was comfortable. The bathroom had double sinks and a super luxurious deep tub that we unfortunately didn't get to enjoy.
The pool was beautiful and warm overlooking a lovely patio. The dining room overlooks the lake and is gorgeous. The one thing to keep in mind is the proximity to the highway. From the lakeside it looks like you're out in the country, but you really are right next to the highway. If that will bother you, choos a lakeside room, and you won't even know the highway is there.
We only had 1 night there, and I am anxious to go back and really relax. My family of 4 did not put staff to the test the way a wedding does, but our experience with the service was excellent. Maybe they read the reviews and turned it around.
