The Chateau Montebello is lovely. The lobby is spectacular -- soaring ceilings, log beams, with the beautiful six-sided fireplace. Both times that I have stayed at Montebello, I have enjoyed spending hours in the lobby in front of one of the fires, sipping single malt from the bar and reading a good book. The rooms are very nice, if somewhat standard. The restaurant is quite good. The pool is in a nice old building, constructed in the 1920's or 30s, and therefore has a lot more character than most hotel pool areas. I feel that Montebello is the perfect winter retreat, although some might prefer it in summer. Staying here over the Christmas holidays is a real treat.
