“One of our favorite places to get rest in luxury!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

This was our 2nd time together to spend a few days at Chateau Montebello. Get prepared to live one of the best stays of your life. This is truly "la vie de château" in a romantic yet high-ranked place, nestled in a magnificent region of Quebec. The rooms are very clean and cozy. The olympic size of the pool is impressive! This place is magical with its historic setting and relax upscale atmosphere. The staff is fantastic; you get the sense that they really love what they do. Wether you are a family or a couple, it is the place to go. Just enjoy and relax!

We stayed for one night two days and with a round of golf nearby. The lobby is a wonderful place to sit and relax in any time of year. The Sunday brunch is always a treat to enjoy as are the walking trails any time of year. We have stayed with our two children in the winter which was also much fun given all the activities that are available. The indoor pool is absolutely huge. The workout facility is wonderful with both squash and indoor tennis included. As part of the Fairmont President's Club which is available to all, internet is free of charge. Check-in is efficient and staff are always so willing to assist.

We stayed here for one night and enjoyed the accommodations even though they were very dated. We did not enjoy being nickle and dimed - paying $9 (for an adult and a 4 year old) for a 9 hole minigolf course is extreme. I honestly don't think they paid $9 to set it up. We checked in using a voucher and there was so much confusion which led to much miscommuncation and I honestly don't think we'll give them another chance.

Thank you OttawaBigSexy for your feedback. I do appreciate your comment about the minigolf, and as it is run by a third party, the prices are similar to any other minigolf. I am sorry that this was an issue for you.

I do appreciate your comment about voucher issues at the front desk, and such feedback helps us ensure we can improve codes and other information in the reservations to improve for future stays.

Thank you!

Had a short one night stay at Chateau Montebello mid-week and seeing as it was neither summer of full winter I cannot comment on the activities in the grounds of the building. Inside, the foyer is truly a wonder of construction and this is what the hotel is about.....you can experience it by keeping your credit card in your pocket and stopping in while passing by Montebello and taking in the awe inspiring foyer through the lens of your camera.

In summary though if you progress to pulling out the credit card for the night you will be disappointed by the following in what is supposed to be a 5 star facility:
1. Paper thin walls (understandable given the age of the building).
2. Pokey bathrooms.
3. Poor quality towels (for a five star)
4. INTERNET THAT HAS TO BE PAID FOR.....in this day and age this is akin to purchasing a BMW and being asked if you'd like a radio as an option. As part of my frequent travels for work I have stayed in 4 star hotels in parts of West Africa and high speed wireless was available as part of the stay.....Come on Fairmont!!
5. Don't recall exactly but minimum cost for a bottle of wine at dinner was in the region of $60-70. Have yet to stay in any other four of five start hotel or go to any upscale restaurant where a perfectly acceptable bottle of wine is available for half the price.....they also have the expensive bottles for those that feel the need to spend.
6. Food in the restaurant was good but good in a 5 Star is not good enough.
7. Paid parking. If a hotel is located in downtown Toronto where space is at a premium then paid parking is acceptable but this is Montebello (in the middle of the Country) and this supposed to be a 5 Star hotel.

All in all I enjoyed seeing the building but left feeling like I had paid a premium for just a night in a pokey old room but if I wanted anything more than that room then there was a price attached to it. That is reasonable for some things such as activities but not for items that are perceived to be standard when you already pay so much for a room. I would not go back again or recommend this hotel to colleagues or friends....sorry.

Beautiful location, luxurious room, attentive friendly service and great amenities. you get what you pay for and you pay a lot!

Only downsides: The restaurant's food quality is only acceptable when it should be first class - given the prices. The parking charge is a cash grab given that there are no alternative... and the walls are thin, you had better hope your neighbors aren't quarreling or doing other loud businesses at 2:30 am like we were, or else be prepared to be awakened and entertained!

This building is truly unique and the riverfront setting was beautiful. Excellent service throughout with great facilities. I particularly enjoyed the swimming pool and spa area. Included breakfast buffet was top notch. The lounge area with it's massive fireplaces and rustic furniture was a popular place to get together.

Room Tip: We had a corner room which was very spacious. The rooms can be a bit noisy because of the age of the...

it's worth the trip to Montebello just to see this architectural gem. billed as the largest log cabin in North America, it's exquisitely constructed. we looked for excuses to relax in the lobby with its atriium and huge freestanding stone fireplace. our room was nicely decorated, staff was wonderful. breakfast in the main dining room is a bit pricy, but the dinners are superb both for their cuisine and value. we'll return in the future, possibly to unravel for ourselves the mysteries of the sport of curling.
