On the evening of June 23, 2013, my family and I had a highly disappointing meal at Michael’s Table. We arrived shortly after 6:15, and ordered within a few minutes of arriving. Several other guests were seated after us, and several finished their meal before we were even served.
Our food did not arrive until 7:15, and only 4 meals initially. 2 more came in the next 5 minutes, and finally my supper at 7:30. I had ordered the seafood chow mein. It was not good. The noodles were hard, and not been cooked sufficiently. The centres of the shrimp were cold, and had not been cooked to a safe temperature. As a physician, I am acutely aware of the fact that undercooked seafood is a health hazard. My son’s pasta has not been properly drained, and the bottom of his bowl was filled with water, which eventually diluted the sauce.
The server did not come through our waiting period to see how everything was. When I spoke to her after a 45 minute wait, she went to check. When our food was initially brought out, no ketchup or vinegar was offered for the fries, and we had to ask, and wait again.
When I asked to speak to the manager (my food had not yet arrived), a woman arrived and offered to comp my meal. Ironically, my meal was not edible, and therefore would have needed to be written off regardless of the fact that I had waited for over an hour. We were offered free dessert, but this was not an option for us as it was now 7:45 and nearing bedtimes for our children. I asked for further compensation (beyond my inedible meal), but was refused.
We had hoped for this meal to be a pleasant start to our vacation. Instead, it was a disappointment and frustration. It is unfortunate that there was no additional compensation that we could accept offered for our meal.
