“Worth the drive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

We were on vacation in Huntsville when we read about a cranberry festival in Bala and a cranberry marsh nearby in a brochure we found at the B&B.
So, we decided to drive down on Friday October 5/12, first to Bala, for the Cranberry Festival. We discovered, when we got to Bala, that a shuttle bus to Johnston's Marsh was included in the entry fee so we took it from there instead of driving there on our own later. Turned out to be a good move as it was very busy, but well organized!
The wagon ride was a great touch and the information given on the mini-trip around the marsh, while viewing the harvesting that was taking, was place very educational.
We did the wine tasting of 6 cranberry/cranberry-blend wines($4). We loved the cran-blueberry (not too sweet, nice tart finish , available at select LCBO's, :-) and the spritzer (only available from Johnston's), both of which we bought there. :-)
In the store there are many, many varieties of jams and preserves, candles, chocolate covered dried cranberries, etc., excellent variety!
We will come again!

“Fabulous time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

We went the week before the big festival in town and harvesting was taking place. Absolutely loved our time watching the harvest take place as well as the wine tasting. Very educational, and thoroughly recommend this for the whole family! Went away with several items from the store including fresh cranberries of course.

“A Good Berry Bounces”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

It was a hot August afternoon when we arrived to take the guided tour. It begins daily at 1 PM and followed by a wine tasting experience. A cheerful young lady led us to see the cranberry marsh. The berries were just beginning to turn a brilliant red. I was surprised to see how the vines grow close to the sandy ground, and form a giant green carpet that stretches for miles. (I had pictured the cranberries growing on bushes similar to blueberries). Our walking tour continued to the winery nearby where the harvested berries are processed. Here we learned that only good usable berries bounce. The others? Well, they just plop and are discarded. Now the good part--the wine tasting! Our group assembled on a shady outdoor patio next to the gift shop. We sampled 9 different wines made from blends of cranberry and blueberry. Some were flavoured with natural maple syrup or raspberries. They ranged from dry to dessert wines, plus a cranberry wine spritzer. All were delicious but very different from wines made from grapes. A word of caution...start off slow, don't drink a 6 oz. glass of the wine until you know how your system will react to it. I found it to be quite potent and very acidic (remember...it's made from cranberries). The gift shop sells all of their wines, plus preserves and nice aromatic candles. “Interesting cranberry products”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012 via mobile

There are opportunities to do hiking n the marshes, tours, and wine tasting. The store is interesting on its own as it demonstrates just how much you do with cranberries. Worth a stop if you are in the area.

“Cranberry education”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

We were an hour early for their tour (which is by foot) so we took the self guided tour of one of the cranberry marshes. Ensure you have good footwear , no delicate sandals .
The young lady in the store was informative about their products and we sampled some wines.
It would be pretty to see the fields at harvest time
