“Excellent service and Friendly place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

I've stayed there for a week with my friends and the staff was amazing. They are very friendly and accommodating. The cabin was cozy and it's quiet and clean. The cabins were a great distance apart that you would not be bothered. Town is very friendly and it's close to the resort. Great way to buy your groceries if you do not want to worry about lugging it.

If you like being in the great outdoors but minus all the camping equipment this is the place to be. Great scenic route or you can cross by ferry (we never have taken it before). Cabins are rustic but very clean. Staff are wonderful. Lots of places nearby to explore. Great family vacation something to do for everyone. They have a beach and an indoor pool for the kids. For those who love fishing there are lots of fish here! This is going be a yearly summer trip for us!

Stayed there on a quick weekend getaway with my autistic son and his worker. The cabin was very nice, directly overlooking the water. It was clean, modern and very comfortable. When we saw the barbecue on the deck, we decided to dash into town for a few groceries instead of eating out and had a wonderful meal with a great view. Firewood and kindling and even newspapers to start the evening bonfire were provided. The host was very friendly and reminded us to just ask for anything we might need. We stayed only one night (unfortunately) and the price was very reasonable for what we got. We would definitely go back again.

We stayed 3 nights in a cabin at Evergreen Resort during a Fall road trip from Philadelphia to the West Coast of Canada. It was exactly what we expected from our review of the website, and we got what we paid for -- a gorgeous setting, peace and quiet, natural environment, unpretentious but clean accommodations, at a reasonable price. It's a family-run operation and the family lives on the property, so they are always about. Contrary to some reviewers, we found the owner affable and helpful. I don't speak French well, nor he English well, so our conversations weren't deep, but they were often funny and we both laughed at our language struggles. My friend and I stayed in cabin #10 which the owner told me when we spoke by phone was "the very best location -- RIGHT on the water." He was not exaggerating. Water actually lapped under the generous sundeck! The deck had nice patio furniture, and there was a gas grill as well as a tiny firepit. It was just a couple hundred feet one direction to a small sandy beach and the same distance the other way to a small dock with rowboats. Inside the cabin the furniture was basic, but certainly acceptable, and the kitchen appliances were fresh. My only complaint is having to bring our own bath towels and wash cloths. But the "resort" seems to be most well-known as a family fishing camp, and it doesn't pretend to be a luxury spa! There are a large indoor, solar-heated pool, a small playground, and other recreational equipment, as well as plenty room to stretch your legs without having to walk along a highway. But we didn't use any of facilities, except the grounds, because we spent our days exploring every square inch of charming Manitoulin Island and our nights drinking wine and eating steaks on our very own deck looking at the sunset, then the stars, and listening to the songs of the loons.

Room Tip: Interior and exterior photos of all the cabins are available on Evergreen's website. Be sure to...

We found Evergreen Resort on the internet and called them to ensure they allowed dogs. We spent 3 nights in one of their bachelor cabins and throroughly enjoyed our stay. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. The cabin was nicely furnished and kitchen supplies were adequate. As we were only staying 3 nights we didn't bring many kitchen or dining supplies. If you are staying for a week or more, do come stocked. As it was we went into Gore Bay daily to pick up dinner.
We choose September holidays so there are not many people around. I get this feeling this resort is a wonderful family resort. It has a small sandy beach, docks for boating and for swimming, volleyball net and croquet supplies in the office. We spent the days touring the island so didn't use any of these amenities. When in the area again, we will stay at the Evergreen Resort again.

Room Tip: The two bachelor cabins are set back from the water, all others are on the water.

We have stayed here for years and have always found it very suitable, even after the change of owners some years ago. The new owners appear to be working to keep the place well maintained. The cabins vary in quality - some are more rustic than others - so if that's an issue for you, you should check which to reserve. The ones we have stayed in (at the end) have always been quiet and a good place to relax. The kitchen is reasonably equipped, especially for BBQ'ing on the deck. The cottage has a lovely picture window onto the lake, and a small TV with satellite if you really need that rather than the view! The A/C is small for the cottage size, but we hardly had to use it. Note that you need to bring your own towels; that's not well noted on the website (and I like to bring my own sheets, though those are provided). You are also expected to sweep the cottage, empty the garbage, unplug the fridge when leaving (it is a housekeeping cottage after all!). The dock is small and the lake shallow, not great for swimming, but there is an indoor pool plus a nice sandy beach has been added, and there is a small play area for kids, all of which we have enjoyed. Some of the family have gone canoeing on the lake. We love the location - it's only a few minutes to Gore Bay, and central to the rest of the island. The staff have always been friendly and helpful. Most of all, it's a great place to just relax and unwind - sit and watch the lake, trees, and wildlife, in peace.

We spent two days at the resort and had a wonderful holiday....the location is excellent, peaceful and well maintained....rooms were clean and well equipped......and most of all, the owners and staff were very friendly and helpful, treated us almost like family.....I called and emailed couple of times before the trip to get some information and all my queries were answered patiently.......Ice Lake, on which the resort is located, is clean and good for boating....the only drawback is that it's a bit shallow and rocky in places, so you have to avoid those areas......we weren't into fishing orselves, but the other guests who were fishing were ecstatic about the quality of fishing in the lake....

All in all, a good experience and I would recommend this resort to anyone who wants to spend a couple of days in the peace and quite of Manitoulin Island with friends or family......

Room Tip: The cottages are the best....they do also have some motel rooms, but the cottage experience is what...
