My wife and I love the quaint Village of Bayfield, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the eastern shore of Lake Huron approximately 53 miles north of London. We have stayed at The Red Pump Inn many times over the years but most recently August 5-8, 2011. We usually plan to stay for 3-4 days when we go to Bayfield. The Inn is a romantic country style inn for couples to escape their daily lives and enjoy great food, wine and a charming village. The Inn has seven suites, the original three suites, The Back Suite, The Front Suite and The Living Room Suite, are located above the Inn's boutique store, the other four newer suites are located in a building just across a beautiful gated courtyard and are contemporary in decor. We are partial to the original suites for sentimental reasons so we reserved The Front Suite for this visit. This suite has a balcony which overlooks Bayfield's Main Street and is furnished with a pair of artistically painted adirondack chairs. It is fun to sit on the balcony and watch the passing scene on the street during busy summer afternoons. The suite, as are all of the original suites, is luxuriously designed with a blend of high end new and antique furnishings and art work. The bathroom is dramatic and elegant, new but designed to look vintage, from the heated black and white tile floor to the french inspired soaking tub with silver claw feet. The remainder of the suite consists of two rooms, one with a mahogany sleigh bed dresssed with luxurious linens and the other room is a living room beautifully furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and new furniture. If you stay in the suites above the Inn, continental style breakfast is delivered to your suite each morning at a time that you select the day before. All of the suites are exceptionally well maintained, extremely comfortable and very private. The Inn is pet friendly and we have taken our miniature poodle with us several times. We recommend The Garden Suite if you take your dog because the suite is at ground level and it is easy to take the dog out for a walk.
Dining at The Red Pump Inn restaurant is always a culinary delight. On every visit we always have lunch and dinner at the Inn because we consider their food to be superb. Chef Mike is very passionate about the food he creates, the presentation and the service. He came to our table at every meal to ensure that everything was prepared to our liking. The cuisine is very creative and many of the ingredients are obtained from local sources. One night for dinner he featured elk and it was delicious and the first time we had ever eaten it. The wine list is quite nice and will satisfy the most discerning palates. The dining room ambiance glows with candle light each evening and is beautifully appointed with 18th century oil paintings, white linens, silver and glass. The dress code is casual so even though this sounds formal it is very comfortable and not pretentious. In the summertime dining on the patio behind the Inn overlooking the flower gardens and listening to water tinkling in the antique fountain is very romantic. The service was friendly and impeccable. We highly recommend a stay at The Red Pump Inn and, if you ask the staff of the Inn, most requests and preferences can be accomodated.
