“Wow. Just wow. What a splendid date night!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

This date night felt more like a getaway than just a dinner out! The surroundings are so stunning - with waterfalls and footbridges and cobblestones - the ultimate romantic setting!

On the Saturday night we visited, the Mill was hosting 3 weddings. It was very busy, but the dining room still felt cozy and quiet.

The food was lovely - delicate, flavourful and interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite! We shared the cheese platter and the bread selection and then had steaks with bleu cheese that were the most tasty and well balanced flavours we've had!

We were seated right in front of the kitchen door despite having reservations and the restaurant not being busy when we arrived, which was kind of disappointing. The best tables are definitely in the circular room at the end of the restaurant facing the waterfall. Next time we will request a table there when making reservations.

This is a lovely restaurant experience to save for a special occasion!

“NEW YEAR'S EVE 2013”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

We spent New Year's Eve at the Ancaster Mill again this year (been 4 years in a row). This year they had reintroduced the set menu so we chose that and it was wonderful. Started with shrimp cocktail (3 large shrimps), followed by a very fresh and crispy Caesar salad with a really nice long bread crouton. The main course was a good sized filet, cooked to perfection. Came with good mashed potatoes and mixed grilled veg and mushrooms in a truffle sauce. Could cut the steak with a fork - yummy! Dessert was white chocolate cheesecake with a tangy fruit puree and a white chocolate decoration. Excellent meal for $75. I do agree with the other reviews - bread came at an extra charge. Don't think that is a good move as bread is not expensive and is expected with a meal and served at most restaurants free of charge. Paid $25 pp to stay until the midnight festivities with champagne, hats and noise makers. Nice band and a chance to dance. Great service. Free valet service. Great night. Will probably return again next year.

“Luxury ski chalet with pompous menus.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013 via mobile

Beautiful scenery and dining areas. The whole establishment looks pristine. Service was knowledgeable and available when needed. Well staffed, both with quality and quantity. Now the cons, aka the food. To serve such food at this gorgeous restaurant is atrocious. I had the turkey choice for the meal. Turkey was moist yet bland, stuffing was garnished a bit too heavy and with an off flavour, the mash potatoes were awesome though. Appetizers were okay (parfait), but the dessert was too rich and sweet (Gingersnap cheesecake). Great atmosphere and service, I've had better tasting food at many, many places. Feels like a luxury ski chalet with pompous menus that the kitchen staff can't execute quite perfectly. Ive been here twice, 0/2 so far. I will probably return. Hopefully its better by then. I doubt it.

“Bread is not included? Pay $5-6 for it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

It started out with our server asking "would you like bread"? which is no longer included and we were pretty hungry when we arrived.
The thing that annoyed us the most was a young man drops off complimentary oysters at our table and starts to run off and I am saying we don't eat this.
So basically no free bread but you get free oysters and some others took them while other refused them.
We ordered Filet Mignon and it arrived warm, not hot even though there was only a half dozen tables of people. We were too hungry to send the food back so we ate it as it was delicious.
Portion sizes are small for the money. We eat at the Keg once a month and always take half home for the next day. Lots of potatoes, not a small spoonful.
For the price they charge, bread should be included, not oysters.
We want to come back so we hope they listen to their customers and fix these issues.
